About HARD WOOD:

Women often say a good man is hard to find. And a hard man is even better.

That’s why I’m quite a catch— good, hard, loaded, and wait for it…I’m ready to settle down too. But the woman I want to pitch my tent with is precisely the one I need to stay far away from.

After that fantastic night with Mia Summers, I’m ready to give her many more. But there’s a hitch in my plans — she just hired my company. If there’s one thing I’m committed to, it’s running a squeaky clean adventure tour business. One of the iron-clad rules?

Don’t screw your customers.

I can follow my own guidelines. After all, it’s only a week-long trip with Mia and her employees over the trails and down the hills I guide them on. I can obey the rules—even if it’s hard in the woods.

I’m about to give myself a badge of honor when the storm of the century hits, sending everyone else running for cover, but us—my biggest temptation and me, alone for a long weekend. You don’t screw the client, especially when you’re already in love with her . . .

But what’s a guy to do when she’s so hard to resist?

‘Stubborn as a Mule’ by Juliette Poe is now available

Down in Whynot, NC, there are three things that hold true: 1) life moves just a little bit slower, 2) family means everything, and 3) you don’t mess with history.

When his family decides to sell a home that’s been part of their history for over a century, Lowe Mancinkus is madder than a hornet. To add insult to injury, the woman who purchased it is some fancy pants, city girl looking to fix it up and sell it off. Doesn’t matter that she’s sexy as hell or that just being near her gets his blood racing like never before. That home belongs to his family, or at least it did until she came to town.

Well that just won’t do, now will it?

From the moment that she laid eyes on the historical home in rural North Carolina, Melinda Rothschild knew Mainer House was something special. The perfect escape from life in New York City, Melinda signed the papers and set to work restoring the house to its natural beauty. That is until an angry Lowe showed up on her doorstep one day. With a scowl on his handsome, chiseled face. And a shotgun in his strong, muscular arms.

Is it getting hot in here?

Melinda’s about to get a lesson on life in the south, but Lowe is about to learn a lesson of his own – this city girl doesn’t back down from a fight.

The booming sound coming from downstairs causes me to sit straight up on the mattress that is placed in the middle of the master bedroom floor. I’ve yet to get a good night’s sleep because there’s a damn train that runs parallel to the town. It’s just two blocks over from the Mainer House, and it feels the need to blow its whistle around two AM each morning. This isn’t that big of a deal to most of the residents of the small town of Whynot, but to me… it chafes just a little because, well… I love my sleep.

I’ve been assured by the nice lady who runs Sweet Cakes, the bakery right across the street from Mainer House, that I’ll get used to it, but I seriously doubt it. Even the noise of New York City never penetrated my sleep the way a train whistle does, and I get a totally empathetic look from her when I stagger in for some coffee and a cheese Danish each morning.

I think I’ve slipped into a pattern at night where I now anticipate being woken up by that stupid train, so I’m not even able to get into good REM sleep. It’s probably why I shot straight up in bed at the banging that’s going on downstairs, although I can’t quite pinpoint from where it’s coming. A glance at the alarm clock sitting on the floor shows it’s 5:30 AM. It’s still dark outside, and I’m slightly—okay, greatly—confused. I struggle to process since it’s been almost two weeks since I came to Whynot and I’ve not had a decent night’s sleep since then.

Then it penetrates… someone’s at my front door.

Banging.

At 5:30 AM.

Immediate anger flows through my veins, heating me up from within. Without any further consternation, I know it’s Lowe Mancinkus causing all that noise. It must be him because there’s no one else in the entire world who has ever been such a thorn in my side.

Flipping the blanket back, I roll off the mattress and wince as my knees hit the floor. Almost three decades of sleeping on a mattress, box spring, and a frame, and I can’t get used to being only a few inches off the floor. I’ve held off on buying any furniture for the house until the remodeling is complete.

Pushing first to my hands and knees, I manage to lurch upright and stagger out of the bedroom. Down the rotund, sweeping staircase to the main floor. I don’t even bother to look out the leaded glass panels on either side of the heavy wooden door—so convinced I am that it’s Lowe on the other side—that I fling it open without an ounce of worry.

“What in the holy hell are you doing?” I snarl as the breeze generated from the doorway swinging open so fast actually blows my hair back.

Lowe stands there in mid-bang, fist raised high and a diabolical glitter to his eyes. His eyes lock onto mine for just a moment before they drop and casually run down the length of my frame. I look down at myself and cringe as I realize I’m still in my pajamas, which in the sweltering South consists of a cotton tank top and sleep shorts that are really short. My hand falls from the doorknob, and I cross my arms over my chest as Lowe looks back up at me.

And why does he have to be so damned gorgeous? In ordinary circumstances, this man pushes all my girlie buttons. Tall, just enough muscle to be strong but not freakish, and that dark chocolate hair with bright hazel eyes that are every woman’s fantasy. I always have to remind myself he’s a nasty SOB who I wouldn’t give the time of day to… in ordinary circumstances, that is.

“I’m here to start work,” he says casually as he pushes past me into the main foyer.

“It’s five-freaking-thirty in the morning,” I grit out, not moving from the open doorway. I expect him to be walking right back out again.

Instead, he ignores me and moves down a wide hall beside the staircase that goes to the kitchen. With a growl of frustration, I slam the door shut and then stomp off after him. “It’s completely rude to show up here at this hour.”

He doesn’t respond and as I turn the corner into the kitchen, I find him rummaging through the cupboards. “Where’s the coffee?”

“I don’t have any,” I snap at his backside since he hasn’t bothered to give me a second glance since he barged in. “And I don’t like you ignoring me any more than I like you barging into my house.”

“Get some decent clothes on, and I wouldn’t be forced to look through your cupboards for nonexistent coffee,” he replies calmly, moving onto the next cabinet even though I’ve told him I have no coffee.

In fact, I have hardly anything at all here. A mattress, pillow, sheets, and blanket in the bedroom, some orange juice in the fridge, and towels in the master bathroom. Those are the only creature comforts at this point, and they’re enough to get me through the remodeling. I’ve been eating out almost every meal and this is not a hardship as that’s pretty much what I do when I’m back home in New York. One, however, can only eat so many grits and collards, although I’ll take them over fatback and pickled pigs feet any day.

“I would like to remind you…” I say in a voice that comes off far too rancid and nowhere in control. “That this is my house. I can wear whatever I like to bed, with the assumption I won’t have visitors until a decent hour.”

“I’m not a visitor,” he points out, back still to me. “But because you couldn’t take a little joke and had to run crying to Judge Bowe, I now have to work for you. I also have to keep my own business running, which means I have to work early and late. You need to suck it up, buttercup. This is your life for the next few months.”

Prepared to be ‘Wrecked’ in JB Salsbury latest book

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book arc from Netgalley
Series: stand-alone
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/32941294-wrecked

Oh boy, I don’t know how she does it, but JB Salsbury is able to hook you from page one and not let you go until the end of the book. Her characters have broken pieces but not so far broken that they can’t be healed by a little bit of love.

It’s going to be hard to have this review remain spoiler-less so if you don’t want any inkling, then I might hold off on reading the rest.

Most books really have one place for conflict, but this one has so many it’s close to emotional overload. There is this family thing that Sawyer needs to come to terms with, then Aden’s got his stuff with his PTSD (this is not so much a spoiler as it’s hinted at in the blurb), while the big twist wraps it all up. You know that things are going to end badly. I mean you can’t have this much going on without something bad happening. But while there is a lot of sadness, the story does have a HEA. So keep that in mind.

While there are many books that make me sad, there aren’t many that have actually made me cry (outside of the ones I’ve read during a certain time of the month). This is one of those stories. I ugly cried about at the 90% mark and it didn’t really end until the end of the book. The story touches on the fact that no matter how dark things in life can get (and they get pretty darn dark for Sawyer), there is always light to be found if you are willing to look for it.

Aden’s got some bits and pieces going on. He’s swallowed up in the guilt of a mistake that haunts him every day since he’s left the war. PTSD is something that we as people can’t really understand unless you’ve lived through it yourself. JB Salsbury’s writing is so realistic that you get a taste of what it’s like for these people who suffer and it makes you really appreciate how hard life is for these soldiers when they return back from war. For him, he is trying so hard to move past what happened and the way he is with Sawyer is so adorably romantic, you just feel bad for him when he can’t move past the demons. He always puts Sawyer first and does what he can to help her live life to the fullest.

Sawyer is too afraid to live life, thinking that the worst will happen every time that she does (considering some of the stuff that’s happened, it’s easy to see why she thinks that). I related to her on so many levels because my OCD is legit and I need to plan every single detail out from start to finish. It’s like that with Sawyer and it’s stopped her from living life. That is until she takes a step in someone else’s shoes and let’s Aden in. But that struggle of wanting to live and going against our nature is ever present.

This story is grade A top notch. While I know it is a stand-alone a part of me would be ok if there is a sequel because I would love to see more of Sawyer and Aden. They complete each other and give the other what they need. I love these stories that Salsbury has written and I can’t wait to see where she takes us next.

My fiancé’s fake, but my 10-inch weapon’s the real deal.

I’m a Navy SEAL, the elite—best of the best.

I never back away from a firefight.

But the moment I meet Shannon ‘Never Been Bedded’ Bailey, all my training goes out the window.

Smart, gorgeous and oddball to boot, the moment I dream about tasting those cherry lips I know I’m FUBAR.

Operation Enduring Hard-On in my pants isn’t helping, or the fact I’ve roped her into fulfilling my sick mother’s dying wish.

She has no idea what she’s getting into, or how good I am at the hustle.

Ring or no ring, I’m going to storm those sweet, clueless curves until she’s begging for more, her lips burning with my name.

Her heart’s too big for a brute like me to break, but when it comes to her body, I’m all in, clear to engage.

Question is, how deep do I go?

‘Beautiful Mistake’ by Vi Keeland is now available!

The first time I met Caine West was in a bar.

He noticed me looking his way and mistakenly read my scowling as checking him out.

When he attempted to talk to me, I set him straight—telling him what I thought of his lying, cheating, egomaniacal ass.

You see, the gorgeous jerk had wined and dined my best friend–smooth talking her into his bed, all along failing to mention that he was married.

He deserved every bit of my tongue-lashing and more for what he’d done.

Especially when that lazy smile graced his perfect face in response to my rant.

Only it turned out, the man I’d just told off wasn’t the right guy.

Oops. My mistake.

Embarrassed, I slunk out without an apology.

I was never going to see the handsome stranger again anyway, right?

That’s what I thought…until I walked into class the next morning.

Well, hello Professor West, I’m your new teaching assistant.

I’ll be working under you…figuratively speaking.

Although the literal interpretation might not be such a bad thing—working under Professor West.

This was going to be interesting…

Synopsis:

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Whoever coined that phrase is a bald-faced liar. Words are often the sharpest weapon of all, triggering some of the most powerful emotions a human can experience.

“You’re pregnant.”

“It’s a boy.”

“Your son needs a heart transplant.”

Sticks and stones will break my bones, but words will never harm me.

Lies.

Syllables and letters may not be tangible, but they can still destroy your entire life faster than a bullet from a gun.

Two words—that was all it took to extinguish the sun from my sky.

“He’s gone.”

For ten years, the darkness consumed me.

In the end, it was four deep, gravelly words that gave me hope of another sunrise.

“Hi. I’m Porter Reese.”

Holy mother of God of cliffhangers! If you don’t like cliffhangers, do not read this book until the second one comes out. Then when it does buy both because you are going to read them both in one sitting.

This book is an intricate web of lies, deceit, and a plot for a Lifetime movie waiting to happen. Now there are parts that I predicted (and you might too) but it definitely did not deter from the story. I loved reading the different darknesses that Porter and Charlotte have to go through to try Holy mother of God of cliffhangers!

I loved reading the different darknesses that Porter and Charlotte have to go through to try and find the light. Porter’s is all kinds of messed up that I almost couldn’t believe it. Charlotte was just at the wrong place at the wrong time and now lives with an empty existence because of it.

The story does focus on the missing child, but there is a very strong romance story here. Charlotte has not lived a day in 10 years. She’s lived in the blackest hole there is and only started to come out when she meets Porter. He makes her laugh, have fun, and remember what it’s like to live. Which makes for some very steamy encounters for them (i.e. Their first time). Literally better then The Notebook.

This duet is similar to The Transfer duet in the format that it’s written. It covers topics that you don’t usually see in romance novels and the mystery side of it keeps you guessing from start to finish. If this is something that Aly Martinez is going to do on a regular basis then count me in because they are addicting. I love the characters and the back and forth that she writes because it feels familiar. Like you could or have had these conversations before.

As I have said it is a cliffhanger, but it’s going to set up for a doozy of a finale so strap in for the rollercoaster ride

Review

What do you do when the one that broke your heart as a teenager crashed back in your life and demands for a job?
You get revenge of course.

Well that’s all well and good but those pesky feelings get into the way. Let’s face it you know that Wyatt and Kelsey were going to find their way back to one another. That is not a bad thing. You get to see the back and forth of whether or not Wyatt can really ‘punish’ her and of course the truth about what happened when they were teens. This is the part of the story that keeps you intrigued from start until you find out and it’s not exactly what you thought it would be.

Kelsey is a strong character outside of her relationship with Wyatt. She sacrifices so much of her personal life for her brother (granted it’s mostly for guilt) but still important to take into consideration. But when she is with Wyatt she is that teenage girl who can’t believe that the cool guy is talking to her. While some may consider this ‘weak’ I think that it makes her real. When you forget to live the life you want and you run into the thing that made you live before, it’s hard not to return back to that time in your life.

What I love about books from J. Kenner is the love scenes, the romance. While this book does cover a love story, it doesn’t really have the love scenes that help entice the romance. I’m so used to those passionate cat and mouse games like from Damien and Nikki or Jackson and Sylvia. Unfortunately, it’s not that in depth in this book and it made me a little disappointed.

This is the first book of another spin off from Stark International and looks to cover a new couple for each book which is nice so you don’t have to worry about those pesky book cliffhangers.

julie-j-kenner-author-photoJ.Kenner (aka Julie Kenner) is the New York Times, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Wall Street Journal and #1 International bestselling author of over seventy novels, novellas and short stories in a variety of genres.

Though known primarily for her award-winning and international bestselling erotic romances (including the Stark and Most Wanted series) that have reached as high as #2 on the New York Times bestseller list, JK has been writing full time for over a decade in a variety of genres including paranormal and contemporary romance, “chicklit” suspense, urban fantasy, and paranormal mommy lit.

JK has been praised by Publishers Weekly as an author with a “flair for dialogue and eccentric characterizations” and by RT Bookclub for having “cornered the market on sinfully attractive, dominant antiheroes and the women who swoon for them.” A five time finalist for Romance Writers of America’s prestigious RITA award, JK took home the first RITA trophy awarded in the category of erotic romance in 2014 for her novel, Claim Me (book 2 of her Stark Trilogy).
