In the fourth installment of the series, Gideon and Eva adjust to married life as they quickly see that it’s not going to be that happily ever after that they wanted as the ghosts from their past continue to haunt them.
Gideon and Eva are challenged both individual and as a couple more then they have been before. It seems like the consequences of their actions are coming back to haunt them and they have to try and find a way to deal with them without falling part. Sounds easy? But nothing for Gideon and Eva is ever easy.
For the first time in the series, we get to see inside of Gideon’s head. This story is told in a dual point of view. The chapters alternate between Gideon and Eva’s point of views. This allows us to finally get an understanding of Gideon and see why he does what he does, especially with Eva. It’s most important to see that his life is a lot more complicated then we thought and only gets more so as the book progresses.
There was a lot of hype for this book and unfortunately it did not live up to expectations. The story focused a lot on Gideon and Eva’s relationship but didn’t have much of a new conflict in the story. All it did was make more loose ends with a hard time trying to figure out how this will all tie together.
While it may not be what the fans wanted in regards to developing the overall story, it did offer a big insight to Gideon’s mindset and what the nightmares are all about. The overall feel of the story felt like a setup story for the final book set to come out next year.
