In this sequel of sorts, we follow the penguins from Madagascar as they embark on an epic adventure to save the penguins of the world from being kidnapped.

The movie had a lot of potential as the penguins from Madagascar are fan favorites from the movie and have found success on the TV show on Nickleodeon. But the movie falls short of expectations. The movie had a few laughs, but for the most part it was lackluster in the comedy department. It felt like the movie relied to much on the success from the movies and the TV show and didn’t do much in anything else.

There were some bright sides to the movie and that fell with Private as we finally get to see another side of him and also with the other characters in the film. They were the ones that made up for the lack of story from the penguins.

The movie does strike a cord with the kids and it’s a good choice to bring your kids to if you’ve already seen Big Hero 6. It’s got some cute and funny moments, but it doesn’t quite capture that special quality that the rest of the series had.

Rated: C
