In the first part of the 10 part novella series, Simon enrolls at the Shadowhunter Academy as he tries to work towards becoming a Shadowhunter and getting his memories back.

Simon is still struggling with the loss of memories that were taken from him in the last book of the series. But the memories that he does have (thanks to Magnus) or jumbled and with no order. He remembers feelings towards people but nothing to back them up. This is especially hard for him and his relationship with Isabelle because she wants to be with him and wait for him and he tells her not to.

Frustrating as Hell considering the things that they’ve been through over the last few books.

Simon sees that he is famous in the Shadowhunter World but doesn’t fully understand why  (sounds awfully familiar to a certain boy wizard). When he sees that this academy is just like his high school, he makes a bold move wanting to be normal and not the ‘exception’.

We meet a few of his classmates (who will likely get a new series in their honor) as they try and train to be Shadowhunters together. George and Simon are going to get in all sorts of trouble that I can’t wait to read about. George comes from a long line of ‘quitters’ and while he makes jokes about it (something that Simon did when he was a vampire) you can tell that it does bother him. You know we are going to see him redeem himself (well at least that is what you hope for).

Rating: B

The second novella in the series, The Lost Herondale, is set to come out March 17th.

You can purchase the novella on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Amazon UK.
