In this book we go back to the first book where Keira and Kellan meet, fall in and out of love, and have to deal with the pain and heart ache that comes with that. But all of this, is told from Kellan Kyle’s point of view.
Let’s just start off by saying, I am not a huge fan of when authors re-write books but told from the other person’s perspective. The main reason being, I already know what’s going to happen so that element of surprise is gone. But I gave this one a chance because I loved reading about Kellan and Keira’s relationship and I was curious to see what was going through his head during some moments in the first book.
Now there is going to be a lot of overlap in the scenes and conversations, but to hear them from Kellan’s point of view and to read was he was thinking takes the story to a whole new level. There are times when he is ‘a dick’ and has no filter for his mouth. But considering how he felt during situations, you can understand it, even if you don’t like it.
There is going to be a time of the book that you are not going to like him (right after he realizes that he loves Keira and she continues to hook up with Denny). Yes he’s hurt and upset and heart broken, but the things that he thinks about her makes you see just how bad he was hurt. If he didn’t redeem himself and feel so guilty about thinking those things then it would change my feelings for him.
One thing that this book does do that I didn’t like is that it lessens my understanding of Keira and her actions. Having read the first book, you know what she’s thinking about in the situations but when you read it through Kellan’s point of view, you wonder why the heck he stuck around. You can feel his anguish in the words and feel the pain right along with him.
This book renews your love for Kellan Kyle and reminds you why he is the best book boyfriend. Yes he has his flaws but he is a romantic at heart. When he fell in love with Keira, he fell hard and fiercely. The way that we all want to fall in love.
