The new live-action film that Disney is going to be releasing is Beauty and the Beast, which Disney’s never done before.  The movie is set to hit theaters March 17th, 2017.

This movie has been in pre-production but has been kicked into high gear over the last few weeks as the latest live-action film, Cinderella, was released. This could explain why Disney decided to release the movie around the same time.

Bill Condon (Breaking Dawn pt 1 and pt 2) is signed on to direct the film with Stephen Chobsky writing his first film since adapting his book, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

The star of the movie, Emma Watson (Harry Potter series, Perks of Being a Wallflower) has been attached to the movie from the get-go. She is going to be playing Belle and has stated that there will be music involved in the movie. Probably for a scene or two like it was in Cinderella.

For the rest of the cast, please see below.

Gaston – Luke Evans (Dracula Untold)
LeFou – Josh Gad (Frozen)
Maurice – Kevin Kline (Last Vegas)
Mrs. Potts – Emma Thompson (Saving Mr. Banks, Harry Potter series)

In case you’re one of the 1% of the people who have never heard of the movie, Beauty and the Beast is about a young girl who is the most beautiful in the land (hence the name ‘Belle’) and she agrees to live with a wildly Beast in order to save her father, but what she doesn’t count on is to fall in love with him.

Beauty and the Beast, which first came out in 1991, was the first animated Disney to ever be nominated for Best Picture (which at the time is a feat because there wasn’t a category for animated films). The movie would go on to take home two Oscars for best Original Score and Best Original Song for “Beauty and the Beast”.

There are still a lot more casting to be done so stay tuned.

What do you think of Disney’s announcement?
