Book review – “Breach” By KI Lynn – quick pace forbidden romance that leaves you wanting more

breachFormat: ebook, paperback
Series: book 1 of 3 The Breach series
Rating: 18+ for language, sexual content
Genre: Romance
Goodreads page:

In the first book of the series, we follow Delilah as she meets her new colleague Nathan who is the apple of everyone’s eye. The moment that they meet, sparks collide and they begin an explosive relationship but when the ghosts of their pasts threaten what they are building, they will see if they have what it takes to make it last.

The story has all the makings of a good, sexy forbidden romance because obviously there will be a ‘thou shall not have sex with someone else at the office’ rule. Deliliah is the goody-too-shoes who has been groomed her whole life to think that she is not good enough so when hot stuff Nathan not only finds her beautiful but chooses her above all the other women at the office, she falls fast.

Nathan himself has his own problems. We slowly get to see the bipolar nature of his personality as the story goes on. At first you are thinking that he’s just a jerk off who is getting off on the fact that Delilah has low self-esteem, but once you find out what happened to him you see that there is more to his story.

It’s those things that make the story so interesting and gives the series hope that it will be an epic series.

What hurts the story is the delivery. It could use some tweaking in some areas. For starter, the way that Nathan talks to Delilah when they are having sex. There is actually a line that can be crossed in dirty talk and I think that Nathan crosses it more often then runners crossing the finish line during a marathon. He uses very crude language (whore/slut) when talking to and basically demeans her.

old school

I can accept it (for now) because I know that this is common for women with low self-esteem to fall for a man who talks to them like that. But I do hope that Lynn branches off it. I hope that this is not how the story ends. I hope that at some point Nathan tones down his dirty talk a bit to where he’s not using derogatory language towards her.

The story had a good foundation for the series and good base for both characters Nathan and Delilah. We will get to see what happens in their relationship in the rest of the series and whether or not Nathan can come to terms with his past while Delilah can gain confidence in her life.

There is a cliff hanger ending so you are forewarned. The good news is that the rest of the series is out, so you don’t have to wait to see what happens.

Rating: C+
