There were two new movies that came out this weekend and they battled it out for the top spot at the box office but it’s the sequel that beats out the reboot.
The sequel to the surprise hit, Pitch Perfect 2, topped the box office it’s opening weekend with an estimated $70.3 million. The again surprises making more money opening weekend then the whole box office of Pitch Perfect. It should surpass the $100 million mark by the end of next weekend.
The other new movie to come out this weekend was Mad Max. The reboot took in an estimated $44.4 million in it’s opening weekend, which surprises the box office. The movie surpasses any other movie in the series.
Age of Ultron falls from the top spot to bring in an estimated $38.8 million. The movie now surpassed Furious 7 for top grossing movie of the year and is going to set the bar for the rest of the movies that are coming out this year.
Rounding out the top five is Hot Pursuit with an estimated $5.7 million and Paul Blart 2 with an estimated $3.6 million.

There is only two new movies coming out next weekend and they should both be able to get into the top five. The Disney movie based on a section of Magic Kingdom, Tomorrowland, and the new Melissa McCarthy comedy, Spy. Spy has a chance to beat out Pitch Perfect 2 from the top spot, but it’s not likely.
