In the first book of the series, we follow Laurie as she tries to gte over the fact that her husband cheated on her with her best friend. On a weekend where she has a conference, she meets Liam and they share a weekend of passion and lust, making Laurie feel something that she hasn’t felt in a long time. They begin an illicit affair that awakens something in Laurie, but as Liam’s secrets come out, she finds that he may not be so different then her ex-husband.
I’m sure this book is attractive to a lot of people who have the fantasy of going to a hotel bar and picking someone up and having sex with them in one of the hotel rooms. It has a certain quality to it that makes it attractive. Add to the fact that Liam is British just makes it that much better. Accents always make a guy hotter.
Layne does a great job at showing the conflict that Laurie has between James and Liam. Anyone who would be in her position would have a hard time giving up something that you are comfortable with for the unknown, especially since the comfortable scorned you. It would be hard to trust someone so quickly again.
I needed a lot more substance for Laurie’s character especially in regards to her relationship with James. We know that they are high school sweethearts that got married, but what is her side of the divorce. Why did she want the divorce (besides him cheating)? She said that it wasn’t the only reason, but we don’t really know what the other reason.
Also, I would prefer to have more information on Liam but this is me just being impatient. I’m sure that we will dive deeper into this character in the second and third book, but it would be nice to see more interaction with him and Laurie outside of them having sex.
This book is the perfect book for someone to read while they are sunbathing on the beach (because you can use the sun as an excuse for your flushed cheeks because some of the scenes are hot). There is a mild cliffhanger at the end of the book so be warned.
