Book review – “Beautiful Sacrifice” by Jamie McGuire

beautiful sacrifice

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 3 of 5 of the Maddox Brother series
Rating: 16+ for language, sensual content
Genre: Romance
Goodreads page:

In the third book of the series, we follow Taylor, a whose job is to risk his life everyday and put out fires, as he meets Falyn, a girl in a small town that he can’t seem to get off his mind. As he gets to know her, he sees that there are secrets that she is harboring that may shake everything that he knows.

Falyn comes from a very influential family and on the surface you wonder how she can be so different until you see the layers of her history. You have sympathy for those of class wondering if that saying ‘the grass is greener’ is accurate in some cases.

Taylor is used to being able to stroll into towns and getting his way so when Falyn challenges that, he finds himself treading water, something he’s never done before. She challenges him in ways he’s never experience before and forces him to see that there are consequences to his actions.

After the last two books, I was a little disappointed with this book. The book felt a lot like Beautiful Disaster where the couple butt heads the entire beginning of their relationship then all of a sudden they are in love. Just like how I felt about that book, I feel the same way about this book. I would have liked to have seen a different interaction between the couple (much like how the last two brothers’ story was).

The ‘twist’ or the climax of the story was a bit disappointing. I was able to figure out Falyn connection to Eakins, IL. And then the big ‘conflict’ between Taylor and Falyn needed more. He messes up in a big way and she just forgive him just because she hurt him once. For someone who was strong willed like she was, it felt out of character.

It was an interesting enough read to get through, but certainly not my favorite one of the series. There is still one more story that we are going to get for the brothers and hopefully Tyler’s story is a more intriguing one.

Rating: C
