‘The Martian’ beats the competition for the top of the box office

It was a relatively slow weekend for premieres this week at the box office. There were two big name movies set to come out and they both didn’t do well at the box office. Both movies were unable to make it to the top of the box office.

The Martian repeats at the top of the box office bringing in an estimated $11.4 million. The movie is coming close to the $200 million mark and should be able to cross over that in the next week or two. The movie will likely fall next week from the box office, but with the success it’s been having it should make some noise come award season.

Goosebumps doesn’t get any help from Halloween fans as it only brought in an estimated $10.2 million. The movie is about to beat out its $58 million budget by next week. With the holiday over, it’s not likely to do any better than it has been the last few weeks which means it may not be able to reach that $100 million plateau.

Bridge of Spies and Hotel Transylvania 2 follow up on the box office with an estimated $8 million and $5.8 million respectively. The only new movie that was able to get into the top five is Burnt which premiered with an estimated $5 million. The other new movie to come out, Our Brand is Crisis, premiered further down the list with an estimated $3.4 million. For the rest of the box office, you can go here.

There are two movies set to come out this week. James Bond’s latest addition, Spectre, should dominate the box office and likely will until Mockingjay pt 2 comes out at the end of the month. Spectre is Daniel Craig’s expected last movie so expect his fans to come out to see him multiple times. The other new movie is Room and will be good for those fans who are looking for a tear-jerker.

What movie did you see this weekend?
