In the last episode, we get a two hour event as the unit tries to find people that are stealing dead CIA bodies. With the fact that it involves dead agents, you know that the Chicago PD are going to be contending with the government over who takes down the bad guys. In this week’s episode, titled ‘A Dead Kid, a Notebook, and a lot of Maybes’, the unit try and stop a school shooting from happening when they get evidence that he’s going to. The show touches on a sensitive subject that is especially apparent today as it deals with school shootings which has been happening a lot lately.
Burgess/Roman get a tip from a mother about how her son, Colin, is missing and that she thinks that he might shoot up his school but instead find him outside the school in apparent suicide but when Lindsey finds a bomb nearby, they begin to wonder if he had a partner. A kid named Ethan.
After some investigation, they find that Ethan might still be a threat. Burgess and Roman find him being bullied and beaten up by some ‘cool’ kids and they find the source of why he wanted to attack the school. Except he says it has nothing to do with the bullies. It has to do with something else. Despite how he tries to blame it all on Colin. But there has to be more to the story. Why would Ethan be involved?
When they follow Ethan, they begin to wonder if something happened with him to make him go south. And it looks like he may have been sexually assaulted. And by his swim coach, Sanders. That is where the connection comes from. It looks like he may have assaulted both Colin and Ethan. Halstead takes the lead in talking with him and tries to get him to open up. He says there is a third guy, a former student, named Jeff, who was supposed to help them, but Colin and Ethan chickened out. Now they need to find this Jeff guy before he does something (like taking out Sanders himself).
They wonder if maybe Sanders set up to take both Colin and Ethan down. There was no third victim and that he was hired to kill them so that they wouldn’t ruin his reputation. Atwater and Ruzek find the man, named Jesse, but he decides to jump in front of a train instead of getting arrested.
Atwater is looking to try and find out where his career is going and may have set himself back by disrupting a respected captain Whitaker. Olinsky takes Michelle under his custody without talking to Meredith. Let’s see how that plays out for him. When he tells her the truth, she tells him to be a father but she can’t help him. There may be trouble in paradise with Burgess and Ruzek as she is still trying to decide if whether or not they are in for the long haul.
In the next episode, the unit try and find a group of people going around with plans to terrorize the entire country.
