There were two movies that were set to come out this weekend that was going to draw in a crowd. They both succeeded in doing that and had great opening weekends. It was a battle for the top of the box office for the franchise names, but it was the new James Bond movie that was able to grab the crown for the box office.

The latest James Bond movie (and final one with Daniel Craig), Spectre, opened to the second biggest of his time as James Bond. The movie premiered with an estimated $73 million. The movie fell short of matching 2013’s Skyfall’s opening which premiered with $88.3 million. The movie is getting high praise from the reviewers and the fans which means it should continue to do well at the box office, even though there is a lot of competition coming out in the next few weeks.

The other new movie to premiere is The Peanuts Movie which brought in an estimated $45 million. The movie has high hopes as it is a movie that the whole family can enjoy and with that big of an opening, it is likely to reach that $100 million mark but may not do much better as Disney is releasing a new movie Thanksgiving weekend.

The Martian drops from the top spot with an estimated $9.3 million. It should cross the $200 million mark by the end of next week making it the 7th movie to cross over that mark this year. Goosebumps remain in the top five with an estimated $6.9 million and Bridge of Spies with an estimated $6 million. For the rest of the box office, you can go here.

It’s a slow week for releases as there are only three movies set to come out. The Brad Pitt and Angelina drama, By the Sea, should draw some attention; the true story of thirty-three men that survived a tragedy in The 33; and the latest Christmas movie to be made to get us in the holiday mood in Love the Coopers. Spectre and The Peanuts Movie will likely still be at the top of the box office next week, but likely will drop down as Mockingjay pt 2 is set to come out next week.

What movie did you see this weekend?
