In the last episode, another show ripped from the headlines in the form of The Duggars as they become the topic on this week’s episode as one of the sisters gets pregnant and it’s by someone that she knows very well. Let’s see how controversial this show is going to be. The show, while is a dramatic rip from the headlines, it still shows how media and being a ‘celebrity’ can alter your beliefs and what is right and wrong. In this week’s episode, titled ‘Melancholy Pursuit’, the unit investigate a missing teenager whose mother works with the DA. The promo has made it seem like the case would involve Benson’s son Noah, but as we have come to seen in the past, promos can be misleading.
A young teenager, goes missing after swim practice and when they see that she had a much older ‘friend’ named Diego she was sexting. Dodds take the lead on this case as he tries to get his feet wet with SVU. The longer that she remains missing, the lower the chances that they are going to be able to find her alive. Sure enough, they find her dead under a bridge and Dodds get his first taste of what it’s like to be at SVU and how it’s not for everyone.
After her examination, Melinda was able to use new technology to find a familial hit on someone. But since he was adopted, he doesn’t give them much help. After following the bread crumbs they find two names, George and Robert Marino. Now it’s going to be fun trying to figure out who is the killer especially since they are brothers and are likely to defend one another.
Six hours later, Robert almost breaks but when Melinda says that she needs the father’s DNA to get a better idea of who could have killed the teenager. It looks like it’s the mystery fourth son and he is a young man. George helps them with who the mystery man could be so it leads Dodds and Benson on another goose chase as they learn he has potentially three more boys. They use Fin’s idea to use DNA from a breathalyzer to match the DNA.
Wanting to prove something to himself, and maybe Benson, he pushes the case hard wanting to take down Gary for killing the girl. Like so many other killers before him, he said it was an accident and that he cared for her. The story does seem plausible that he did it by accident, but the fact that he was basically stalking a 15 year old does not help him in his case.
In the next episode, Benson has to deal with an old case as one of the men she put away is now up for parole.
