Review: ‘Distraction’ by Aurora Rose Reynolds – too fast of a story that is hard to get into

Format: e-book, paperback

Format read: e-book arc copy

Series: book 3 of Underground Kings series

Rating: 18+ sexual content, language

Genre: Romance

Goodreads page:

This book is a spin-off from the Until series so we strap in for a dominate man who deals with a woman who likes to challenge him every step of the way. Maggie is desperate to find and save her sister and is willing to do anything she can to do that.

Knowing how the Until series worked, I expected a story along the same lines. In a sense I got it. The pace of the story was very fast in the beginning and then perfect in the middle, and a little anti-climatic at the end.

The relationship between Sven and Maggie is passionate and it doesn’t take long for the two of them to fall in love. Sven sees the light when he falls for her and finally understands why people fall in love. Maggie didn’t know why someone like him would fall for her, but once she finally accepts it, she embraces it and explores all the things that love can offer.

I had a lot of hopes for this book that weren’t reached. The beginning started off very interesting, but then we don’t really hear anything else about it until late in the book and it seems forced. Considering what it was, I would have thought it would have a greater impact on the book. Also, I did like that it took a bit for them to get together, but when they did it was 0 to 100 in three pages. I would have liked to have seen more there and it would have made me enjoy their relationship more.

Overall, it was a decent book, but I don’t think it met what I had wanted from the other two books. It does add to the series as the other characters develop more and it did set up the next book well. I am excited to see where the next book takes us.

Rating: C-
