‘Shadowhunters’ 1×5 – Alec and Jace’s relationship strain as Clary gets kidnapped

In the last episode, Simon tries to figure out what is happening to him while Clary continues to try and get back her memories. Something strange is going on with Simon as he begins to get an obsession with blood. What could this mean for his future and his relationship with the Shadowhunters. In this week’s episode, titled ‘Moo Shu To Go’, Clary and Simon find themselves in trouble as they get kidnapped by Valentine’s men. The Shadowhunters, especially Alec, have to decide if he can do his duty and help save Clary and Simon even though he doesn’t like them.

The Shadowhunters continue to try and find Jocelyn and Valentine. Alec of course doesn’t like that his mission is based on Clary and her memories. To try and make up for Alec’s sour mood, Isabelle tries to connect with Clary and help her in a softer way. Her way definitely is more effective as she gets Clary to open up more about Jocelyn.

SHADOWHUNTERS - "Moo Shu To Go" - Alec finds himself torn between duty and loyalty to Jace in “Moo Shu to Go,” an all-new episode of “Shadowhunters,” airing Tuesday, February 9th at 9:00 – 10:00 p.m., EST/PST on Freeform, the new name for ABC Family. (Freeform/Sven Frenzel) EMERAUDE TOUBIA, DOMINIC SHERWOOD, MATTHEW DADDARIO

We get to meet Alec and Isabelle’s mother and a first look at the frostiness in Isabelle and Isabelle’s relationship. Obviously Jace is the favorite of the three, despite not even being biologically hers. Max gets his first mention but not his first viewing. We also get the first mention/look of J.C box that plays an important role in the story. Especially in this episode as it’s the key to what gets Clary and Simon kidnapped by Valentine’s men.

Jace is less then pleased with Alec as their relationship continues to strain. On the surface, one would think that Clary is the cause of the problem but in reality, it’s Alec’s inability to bend with the changing times. Jace knows that Clary is the key to finding and beating Valentine, though there are times that his feelings for her do cloud his judgment.

The big reveal of the show, at least for Clary, is that Luke is a werewolf. He finds Clary and shows who he is while protecting her. He becomes the leader of the wolf pack (and not the fun one from The Hangover). There will be more to come on this news in the coming episodes as Luke tries to lead the new pack and help Clary find The Mortal Cup and beat Valentine.

In the next episode, Magnus works to try and save Luke while the rest of the group try and come to grip with other truths surrounding them.
