In the final book of the Bear duology, Thia and Bear met under intense problem that came up and bonded over a skull ring. Years after their chance encounter they are thrusted back together because of that ring and now face the fact that they may have a future without the other.
But Bear has other things on his mind.
Bear is a fighter and is not one to give up. He didn’t give up when the MC turned their backs on him. He didn’t give up when his best friend died. And he didn’t give up when he was attacked. He sure as Hell isn’t going to give in to a future without Thia.
We are there. Finally. The final book of the King duology. Fans of Frazierland have anxiously counted down the days since DecemBEAR until the release of Lawless in FeBEARy. And you will all be happy to know that it is better than what you expect.
There may be spoilers in this review just so be warned.
I came into this book waiting for the moment where Frazier makes us want to give up on reading because happiness will no longer exist. But our faith in the evil Ginger gets restored as she not only gives us that happy ending with a bowtie (yes it is a Preppy pun) but she has a few surprises up her sleeve that is going to have us want to find her in Florida and just kiss her feet. It is that good.
Now, there are quite a few questions that we were left with at the end of Lawless. They would be 1. Why was Jake involved with torturing Thia. 2. Who the heck ‘she’ is. 3. How is Bear’s mother still alive. Yes there may be other questions but I think we can all agree that those are the main questions.
All three questions will be answered but the first two don’t happen until later in the book. So just know that. I know that when I was reading it, I was like, ‘ok so does Thia not get kidnapped at all?’ I had thought the book was going to start off with her being kidnapped and Bear would come in all crazy mo-fo and save her. Frazier once again surprises us and shows that she can still get you second guessing yourself no matter how many times you read her books and think you know how her brain works. Because honestly, I don’t even think she knows how it works.
Bear and Thia really work well together and may even give King and Ray a run for their money for the cutest couple. They are literally the ying to the other one’s yang. Bear needs someone who is going to put him in his place. And Thia needs someone who can build her up and make her see just how beautiful she is from the inside out. It is bittersweet that this is the last time that we will see them but maybe someday in the future Frazier can reward her fans again with another story from these characters.
For negatives. There is maybe one little thing that I wished. I had wished that we would have gotten more of that dark drama that we had seen in Tyrant and The Dark Light of Day. What I like the most about Frazier is that she is able to push the boundaries and show us just how ugly the world can be. This book didn’t really have it. She mentions it a few times but we don’t actually live through it like we did with Ray and Abby. Thia’s ‘moment’ seemed a little rushed and underdone.
That one negative is certainly not enough to deter me from the book or the series. T.M. Frazier is that author that I will ‘one-click’ buy without reading the synopsis. She is able to create characters and stories that even though are probably nothing that we go through, we can still relate to it on some level. She relates to love and family and what really is important.
