In the second book of the series, we follow Knox, Jace’s best friend, as he recovers from his injuries and a broken heart. He thinks that he is done with relationships, until he meets the person that his brother hired to take care of him and he sees that love may not quite be done with him.
Going into this book I didn’t know what to expect. The first book didn’t quite leave me with the ‘omg I have to finish reading this series’. After some months, I decided to give it another go. I picked up this book on Kindle Unlimited and I was pleased that this book wasn’t like the first book. We get to see more from Knox and Charlie and that point where they fall in love. The best love stories are the ones that have inside jokes, nicknames, and moments that define a relationship. This book was chock full of them and I love every second of it.
Knox is a hot head and stubborn man and doesn’t want to admit that he’s wrong about anything. That is the person that we knew from the first book and the beginning of this book, but there were times that the illusion didn’t hold up. Knox would go all hot head on Charlie but then the next second he would just be apologizing. Most people who are hot heads, especially when they are stubborn, they aren’t quick to admit that they overreacted or made a mistake and just beg for forgiveness.
Charlie is not that typical damsel in distress that we see in a lot of love stories. No, in fact it’s Knox that is the damsel in distress (so to speak). She stands her own ground with him and doesn’t just give into him because he is good looking and he asks. Instead, she tells him what she is thinking and doesn’t care if he likes it or not. There were a lot of one-liners that she flew at him that I found myself laughing and thinking about adapting them to my life. And that’s what makes people love books. When we can find things in them that we can relate to.
A good series is one that incorporates all characters in the world but not to overpowering for one couple. We get to see Jace and Lexi in this book, but as a compliment to Knox’s character. We get to see their relationship progress as we get to fall in love with a new couple. Just like this book helps set up the next book as we will get to do the same thing over again.
