Review: ‘Intoxicate’ by Tessa Teevan – a stand still novel that takes too long to develop

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book from Kindle Unlimited
Series: book 4 of the Explosive series
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Romance
Goodreads page:

In the fourth book of the series, we follow Knox’s sister, Kalli as she finally gets the chance to have the boy that she’s had a crush on since she was 16. Xavier is torn between loyalty to his best friend Knox and his feelings for Kalli. Throw in the fact that he has a 10-year-old daughter and it makes it more complicated when feels are formed between the two of them.

Going into this book, I had such high expectations because I loved the last two books. Unfortunately, it didn’t live up to that expectations. The book spends a good 2/3 of it in the past as we get caught up with what happens in the prologue. This was the first thing that I didn’t like. It dragged on and didn’t have any moments where it kept you interested. You would have thought with them spending so much time together there would be stolen kisses or touches that get passionate. But no. nothing. They go from one extreme to the other and when we get their explosion, I was like where was this throughout the whole book?

It felt like the first and second book had a baby and made this one. There didn’t feel like there was anything original about this couple that would make it stand out against the other books. A good series is able to grab you in each book and be able to grab fans for each couple. For me, I couldn’t see anything about this couple that was attractive for me to make them my favorite.

I am holding out hope that the next book doesn’t fall victim like this one did, if it does it will make me sad that it peaked at book 3.

Rating: C
