Ok, this review is going to start off with a spoiler alert. I hate putting spoilers in a review because I want everyone to enjoy the story and figure things out on their own, but to do this book a justice I must say a small spoiler. You will probably figure it out based on the title of the book and the blurb. If you didn’t, then you may want to skip this review.

Ok here we go.

The story surrounds a down on her luck woman named Shyann who moves back to Payson Arizona, a small town outside of Phoenix. She thinks it’s a temporary solution to the problem of being jobless but things get interesting when she meets Lucas and can’t stop the pull that she has towards him. Only problem is it’s not just Lucas she has to watch out for. It’s his split personality, Gage.

As someone who has studied psychology, I have always found split personality as a fascinating subject. Some people think that it’s a made-up disorder. Something that people like to use to excuse the bad things that they do. Perhaps that’s true for some people, but it is a real thing. Especially for someone like Lucas who literally lived in Hell growing up. You get snippets of what happened to him but what you imagine is nothing to horrid things that happened.

This is the first book that JB Salsbury has done outside of her USA Today’s best-selling series and she did not disappoint. The book is addicting, dark, and beautiful all at the time same time. Gage and Lucas are two halves of the perfect man. He can be nice and sweet but he can be nasty if you want him to (wink wink). Shyann accepts both Gage and Lucas for who they are and doesn’t go running for the hills when things get scary. It doesn’t help that there is a serial killer lurking in the area.

As the book comes to an end, Shyann has to make a decision on if she is strong enough to handle both of them because she knows the only way that he can finally face his past and what happened when he was a kid. It is disappointing that this is a stand-alone only because I love these characters and I would love to see more of them. Can’t wait to see what JB Salsbury has in store for us in the future.
