It’s been a few days since I finished the book and I still am not completely sure how I feel about the book. I know that I want to read the next book in the series but I am not sure that I am going to want to buy it the day that it comes out. The first quarter of the book was hard to get through because we get introduced to the world that Tommy and Nikita are a part of.

Nikita works for the prison and is trying to help out one of her patients but by doing so, she finds herself knee deep in a whole lot of trouble. And his name begins with Tommy. Tommy is trying to do anything that he can to save his sister but Nikita throws a wrench in his plans. It becomes a power struggle for him because he wants to protect his sister, but can’t seem to stay away from Nikita.

The relationship between Nikita and Tommy is where I have the hardest time with accepting. They go from a one-night stand (a pretty hot and steamy one night stand that was explosive) to the point where they are willing to do anything for the other. For me, it just didn’t seem believable that they would both give up everything for the other after a handful of scenes together. I hope that there is more to them in the next book.

Despite the fact that I don’t care for the relationship of them together, I do like Tommy and Nikita as characters individual. Tommy is the right kind of bad boy with a good heart and it’s hard not to be a little swooning when you see how dedicated he is to try and save his sister. Nikita is not that sweet girl that you see on the surface, but rather she is someone that can kick your butt if you mess with her in the wrong way. That scene at the bar is priceless and I would love to see that play out in real life.

While the story is a bit slow in the beginning, it does pick up towards the middle. There is a cliffhanger ending, but not a super big one, just enough to let you know that there is a whole lol left of this story and to hang on for the next book.

Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and moulding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.

Callie Hart is the author of the Blood & Roses Series. Zeth & Sloane’s story is now complete, but there are a number of stories still to be released under the Blood & Roses banner. 2015 will see Cade, Michael and Rebel’s stories being released, as well as a number of brand new stories, all of which will be Dark Romance novels.
