Feeling the rush comes with a price…

Mackenzie Cox has lost everything—except Hayden Hayes. With Kenzie’s racing career over, and her family no longer speaking to her, Hayden has been her rock, as she tries to pick up the pieces of what was once her life.

But when Hayden’s racing team hires his beautiful ex-girlfriend, Felicia, to be their new hotshot rider, Kenzie and Hayden’s seemingly solid relationship begins to crack. Kenzie can only watch from the sidelines, as Felicia lives the life she was forced to leave behind, and as tension begins to build between Hayden and Kenzie, she wonders if Hayden isn’t the man she once knew.

I am going to start off by saying that I don’t like SC Stephens. Not at all. Why?? Because you makes me feel for the characters. She makes me grow attached to them like they are my own feelings and makes me want more for them. Throughout this whole book, I was thinking off all the ways things could go wrong and how frustrated I was because they didn’t go the way why I like. But I liked that. I like being emotionally attached to the story and the characters because then when they get to the end of the story it’s more satisfying.

Hayden is stuck in between a rock and a hard place. He wants what’s best for Kenzie but feels guilty that she gave up her dream for getting him. Things don’t get easier when his past (Felicia) comes storming back wanting to return to get back what she lost. He knows he loves and wants Kenzie, but there is a part of him that is stuck with Felicia that he can’t seem to let go completely. To me, he seems like a little boy lost in the world that is just trying to find his way. And we get to see him do that.

Kenzie, man I feel for this girl on so many levels. She is isolated from her family, no job, a boyfriend who keeps lying to her. It’s a surprise that she doesn’t go crazy. But it’s a true testament to her character. How strong she is. Her father, man did I want to beat him something fierce, turns the whole world against her all just because he doesn’t like Hayden. And then adds guilt to it. If it were me I would have cut him out of my life because no one needs poison like that, but it’s hard to do that when he’s the only parent she has. I love the strength of her character and how she is able to not lose it when she loses everything. It shines again when she fights for what she wants and doesn’t settle for anything less. That big scene between her and father towards the end proves everything and is probably my favorite in the book.

While there were times that I was nervous/anxious about what was going to happen, I always knew that it would end with a HEA (and no I didn’t cheat to make sure). Stephens has always given me that HEA that I need in a book even if it’s not the way that I expect it. This book is no exception to that. There are going to be times that you won’t like Hayden and some of the decisions that he makes, but I did end up loving him.

Rating: A

Don’t miss the first book in the RUSH series!

Mackenzie Cox has a lot to prove. Daughter of a racing legend, she is eager to show the world that she has inherited her father’s talent in the male-dominated sport of professional motorcycle racing. The last thing Kenzie needs is to be antagonized by her rival team’s newest rider, Hayden Hayes. Plucked from the world of illegal street racing, Hayden immediately gets under Kenzie’s skin. His insinuations that Kenzie is a spoiled princess who was handed her career fuels her desire to win, and much to her surprise, Kenzie soon learns she performs better when she’s racing against Hayden.

As Kenzie and Hayden push each other on the track, the electric energy between them off the track shifts into and intense—and strictly forbidden—attraction. The only rule between their two ultra-competitive teams is zero contact. Kenzie always does her best to play by the rules, but when her team slips into a financial crisis, she has no choice but to turn to Hayden for help. The tension simmers during their secret, late-night rendezvous, but Kenzie has too much to lose to give in to her desires. Especially when she begins to doubt that Hayden has completely left his street life behind…
