I’ve had time to digest this book and I’m still not a 100% sure that I like Caleb. There are times, many in fact, where I want to give up on him completely. He is a complete jerk to Emma for things that are outside of her control and it got to the point where I started getting annoyed with her because she just kept taking him back. Thankfully after that one big fight she didn’t and it made me like her a whole lot more.

Caleb’s biggest problems is that he is stuck in the past and can’t let go of Manda. He holds on to so much hate for Sarah that it carries over in his relationship with Emma. But thankfully, she makes him feel things that he hasn’t felt in 5 years so we get to a glimpse of the man that he was before he was forever changed with Manda died.

Emma holds her own against Caleb and I love that she does. He needed someone to light a fire under him to pull him out of his grief. Them together is explosive, that it kind of reminded me of the reference that Eminem made with volcano and tornado coming together. It was a whirlwind for both of them and definitely changed both of their lives.

Once again Martinez is able to create characters that have such diverse emotions. Unlike many of the male leads in other romantic books, he is not someone that you love 100%. He has got his issues that run deeper than the ocean and it makes you not like him at points of the story, such much that you actually wish the couple doesn’t end up together. But of course, that can’t happen because where would the fun in that be.

AUTHOR INFORMATION:

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
