‘Madden 2017’ is the sports game you can’t miss

madden 17

Out of all the sports games that comes out Madden is probably the most popular. Just a few years ago, it celebrated its 25th anniversary which amazing because that means it’s survived past multiple generations of video games, and that is hard for a game to do.

With that said, this game had high standards to meet.

And it did.

Let’s start with what it’s added. Franchise mode is at its best in this game. You are more immersed with the scouting and developing of the players on your team. Each player earns XP points with every game and you decide how to spend those points on their attributes. The downside is that if the player doesn’t reach their season goals then they lose attributes.

You start off the franchise with a generated coach and you take over a team. Like with the players, you earn XP points for winning games, reaching goals, and doing well in the season. Those XP points can be used to buy influence for the team like signing players, scouting players, and keeping the ones your already have. Your goal is to increase your legacy points so that you are the top ranked GM in the game.

Game mode now gives you the option to play only the key moments in the game or just on one side of the game. This allows you the possibility to play more of the game instead of the back office stuff. You are more involved with the audibles and shifting the offense or defense around before and after the play. The biggest in-game addition, comes with the run game. You now have more options to juke past defenders or break for that big play. This factor is the greatest with punt/kick returns as in this day and age, it’s a deciding factor in the game.

In order to better the franchise game, they had to take something out and that was the ability to create and play as a player through his career. This could have stemmed because NCAA is no longer doing a football game. For me, I was a big fan of that part of the game but I will say that with the more immersive Franchise mode, I’m not missing it all that much.

Other major improvements with the Franchise mode is the decision factor that goes in being a GM of a team. You get to decide how whether or not to play a player through injury (and it will have negative effects if you do), big trades to make, and other small decisions of every day operations. The only thing that the game doesn’t have that I wished it did, was dealing with the financial part of the job. Like in some of the MLB versions, you can deal with advertising and have the ability to update a uniform. I would have liked to have more of a creative aspect in the game.

This is the best Madden game that I have played. If there is one game you should invest in it is this one. Add to the fact that one of my favorite players is on the cover, it’s hard not to find this one a winner.

‘NHL 17’ leads video games coming out in September

nhl 17

Attention all hockey fans! The latest edition of NHL is coming out this month and it looks like it’s going to be one of the best that the series has made. The game takes it to a whole new level as now the user can dive deeper into the game and become more involved with the outcome. Customization has taken large strides in this game as the player can now dive deeper into the game as they can not only create a player and follow a career, but a team. Out of all the sport games, customization was the lowest out of the major sports, but NHL 17 is looking to make major strides with this game. The biggest update to come from this game comes with the goalie view. You can become more in tuned with the game and become more of a major factor with the outcome. The game is set to come out the 13th.

NBA 2K17 is also coming out this month and fans are excited to rush out to buy this game. The 2K series has been a successful one for the NBA, more successful than the other sports that it partakes in. This year, the game steps it up as it features more ways for the player to be involved with the game and other fun things to do, like playing the USA Olympics team in a tournament. The game is set to come out the 20th.

Other games coming out is NASCAR Heat Evolution will do well with its fan base, but is not likely going to draw in any new buyers. There is a lot of DLC coming out for games already, the most notable for Batman and Call of Duty Black Ops 3.

‘Madden’ leads video games coming out in August

madden 17

It’s really no surprise that the latest edition of Madden is going to be the top game coming out this month. The game, which features New England Patriots Rob Gronkowski on the cover, is usually the highlight of every year and this year is going to be no different. The game continues to strive to be as close to what the real game is like as possible. And looking at the pictures, it does come close. They pay more detail to the finer details with this one. They enhanced the running game with new moves that will allow a single play impact a game. For more features, you can go here. The game is set to come out on August 23rd.

Other big name games coming out this month is Deus Ex: Mankind Divided. This one is also set to come out August 23rd, but won’t have the midnight party celebration like Madden will. It is a sequel to 2011’s Deus Ex: Human Revolution and picks up right where that one left off. It’s a futuristic game and combines both first and third person point of view as you try and stop the mechanically augmented humans from killing everything in their sight. It’s an exciting survival game and should be one of the top selling games this month.

The other game you are going to want to keep your eye on is the indie survival game, No Man’s Sky. This game, that is only for Playstation 4 and PC, is a sand-box like game where you try and survive on the 65 planets in the game. This game is set to come out August 9th.

For the rest of the list of games coming out, you can go here.

Video game success ‘Life is Strange’ is coming to a TV near you

life is strange 2

It is no surprise that this is about to happen, at least according to IGN. Life is Strange is a cult hit with the next generation systems, XBOX One and Playstation 4, and is now going to be coming to a small screen near you. Legendary Entertainment and Square Enix have partnered together to bring this game to life.

There is no words on anything else for the adaptation such as how it will come to us was revealed because it’s still in the early stages of the creative process, but considering the type of game that it is, it’s probably going to find a home at Hulu or Netflix.

In the video game, you play as Max Caulfield who inexplicably receives the power to turn back time. She witnesses a gruesome crime and goes back to change, only to find that by doing it she has caused the whole town to fall victim to an approaching storm. The has got twists and turns around every corner and it’s a game that draws you in with every single decision that you make because every decision has an effect, even something as simple as not signing a form.

Dontnod is enjoying the success of the episodic video game and is in talks of doing a second season, though nothing has been confirmed. It was a bit of a surprise by how well the game has gone. The only problem is that once you beat the game, it lacks that replay-ability. Yes, you can go back and make different decisions, but the ending is going to be the same either way.

Stay tuned for more news.

Review: ‘Assassin’s Creed Syndicate – Jack the Ripper’ Add on – a grotesque look at a piece of history

jack the ripper

Developer(s): Ubisoft
Publisher(s): Ubisoft
Series: Assassin’s Creed
Platform(s): Playstation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows
Release Date: 12/15/2015
Genre(s): Historic Action-Adventure
Mode(s): Single-player
Rating: M for Mature

Jack the Ripper is one of the most infamous characters to ever take place in history. During his reign in London, he killed countless women and men and did it without ever being caught. He is one of the most notorious serial killers because his crimes were so grotesque and disturbing that it’s hard to stomach.

The game takes place 20 years after the events of the main game. Jacob is helping the police try and find the man who is going around killing people and he finds a link to someone from his past. Jack can’t have loose ends so he makes sure to cut out Jacob while trying to lure Evie so he can do the same. Evie has to race against time to try and take out Jack before he takes her out.

jack the ripper 2

You play as Evie in this DLC and you get some new weapons with it. Two of the new features are fear induced-weapons. The first one is a smoke/fire bomb that scares people into thinking it’s Jack and the other is a spike that is also Jack’s choice of weapon.

What is intriguing about this DLC is that not only do you play the good guy, but also the bad guy. A few times throughout the storyline you play Jack as he tries to clean up his track and not leave any evidence for Evie to find. Using the detective skills that you learned if you got the Murder Mystery DLC to try and find Jack and solve who he is and why he is doing what he is doing.

Like the Kenway trilogy, we dive into real historical facts. While their definition of what happened is fictional, there are parts that are fact, like his reign of terror and a possible explanation to why he started murdering people. Of course, there is no 100% proof, but if you have studied Jack’s reign, there are many theories to try and explain why. Because that’s always the biggest question when it comes to a string of killings. Why did they do it?

Assassin's Creed® Syndicate_20151220191353

This game is perhaps the most graphic and deadliest of all the Assassin’s Creed games. It starts right off with Jacob and Jack in a very bloody battle that is stretching that M rating to the max. It was a bit surprising at first, but it shouldn’t really be considering who the game is about. I did enjoy diving into historical events because that’s what made me fall in love with the series in the first place.

While it’s not necessary to finish Syndicate to play this DLC, it’s advised that you reach at least level 10 in your character. It will make it a lot easier for you to beat the game. This is a great add on to the series and it really shows the type of games that they can make for the future.

Your dream of being a Pokemon master can now come true

pokemon go

Attention kids of the 90’s, 2000s, and today! Your dream of being a Pokemon master in real life can now come true. You don’t need to shell out $40+ now in order to play Pokemon on 3DS, GameBoy, or whatever other handheld device you have. Now, as long as you have a smartphone and internet, you will be able to walk around and try and catch Pokemon by walking around.

How does this work you ask? Well, to put it simply, your Pokedex, aka your phone, will vibrate or alert you anytime that you are near a Pokemon. This could be as you are walking out to your car, at work, at the grocery store, literally anywhere you are. All you have to do is whip out your phone and catch the Pokemon.

pokemon go 2

Now if that wasn’t enough to get you excited there is more. You also get to battle. That’s right BATTLE. The best part of Pokemon is these battles and you get to do it against Gym Leaders so that you can collect badges. But it doesn’t allow you to battle other trainers, ie your friends. At least not yet.

You start off the game by designing your character. The graphics are not next generation quality like Xbox One and Playstation 4, but they are more modernized than the other Pokemon games. You get to pick what gender you want, plus the color of their clothes. This is a nice little feature because you can make the trainer look semi like you.

pokemon go 3

The game launched yesterday and has been blowing up the internet, social media, and the servers. The news was first announced in September of 2015. Fans have been anxiously waiting for its arrival date, praying and hoping that it would be everything that we expected.
The app is available for Google Play and at the iTunes store. For more information on the app, you can go here.

Review: ‘Life is Strange’ – beautiful crafted story that shows that every decision matters

life is strange

Developer(s): Dontnod Entertainment
Publisher(s): Square Enix
Writer(s): Christian Devine, Jean-Luc Cano
Platform(s): Playstation 4, Xbox One, Microsoft Windows, Playstation 3, Xbox 360
Release Date: E1 – 1/30/15
E2 – 3/24-15
E3 – 5/19/15
E4 – 7/28/15
E5 – 10/20/15
Genre(s): Graphic adventure
Mode(s): Single-player

The concept of the game is one that blew my mind. When I first heard about the game, it reminded me of L.A. Noire from the last generation. It’s a game where you take control of the game and your decisions will change the outcome of it. But this game goes a step further. Every single decision you make has a consequence, even little ones like whether or not to sign a petition. It’s amazing because you can play it multiple times and have different outcomes (though the main ending is the same).

The game came in 5 episodes each coming at different times. I was glad that I waited until all the episodes were out because if I played it as they came out, I would have gone crazy. They didn’t come out on a consistent level and the way that each one ended on a cliffhanger would have drove me crazy. It felt like the video game took a page out of what books do (pun intended) as they immersed yourself into the story and created characters that you became attached to. The story touches on a lot of issues that we see today. Drugs, alcohol, peer pressure, pressure from parents, etc. I found myself so immersed into the story that I started feeling bad about decisions that I made in the game. I forgot that it was in fact a video game and that these characters were not real. By the end, when we see the end results, I felt guilty and wished that things turned out differently.

life is strange 2

The graphics are kind of split down the middle for me. There are things that were so beautiful crafted that it was an amazing sight. The amount of detail that went into things like the sunset and attention to shadows during certain times of the game was breathtaking. For me, the fact that they spent that much time on the smaller detail, they should have spent some of that on perhaps making the people themselves look more real instead of cartoonesque.

While I loved the overall story, the ending could have used some work. We get to the point of the story, where everything comes full circle and we get to see all the consequences of the decisions that you made throughout the game. There is a big spoiler here that I for one did not see coming, and I like that I didn’t see it. But there wasn’t much to do in the ending. For the last episode, you maybe do something for about 20% of the episode and the rest of the episode you are watching scenes unfold. While there were a lot of cut scenes in the other episodes, you at least got to be a part of the conversation.

life is strange 3

The game itself is ahead of the game and changes the way that these types of games are made. It teaches the player a lesson and makes them think about things in their own life in a way that they may not have before. If we as a generation are going to be playing more video games than before, then might as well have lessons be taught.
