Goodreads page:

It’s been a few days since I finished the book and I still am not completely sure how I feel about the book. I know that I want to read the next book in the series but I am not sure that I am going to want to buy it the day that it comes out. The first quarter of the book was hard to get through because we get introduced to the world that Tommy and Nikita are a part of.

Nikita works for the prison and is trying to help out one of her patients but by doing so, she finds herself knee deep in a whole lot of trouble. And his name begins with Tommy. Tommy is trying to do anything that he can to save his sister but Nikita throws a wrench in his plans. It becomes a power struggle for him because he wants to protect his sister, but can’t seem to stay away from Nikita.

The relationship between Nikita and Tommy is where I have the hardest time with accepting. They go from a one-night stand (a pretty hot and steamy one night stand that was explosive) to the point where they are willing to do anything for the other. For me, it just didn’t seem believable that they would both give up everything for the other after a handful of scenes together. I hope that there is more to them in the next book.

Despite the fact that I don’t care for the relationship of them together, I do like Tommy and Nikita as characters individual. Tommy is the right kind of bad boy with a good heart and it’s hard not to be a little swooning when you see how dedicated he is to try and save his sister. Nikita is not that sweet girl that you see on the surface, but rather she is someone that can kick your butt if you mess with her in the wrong way. That scene at the bar is priceless and I would love to see that play out in real life.

While the story is a bit slow in the beginning, it does pick up towards the middle. There is a cliffhanger ending, but not a super big one, just enough to let you know that there is a whole lol left of this story and to hang on for the next book.

Callie has experienced many changes throughout her life, and gone through many ups and downs that have all worked towards shaping and moulding her into the person she is today: fun loving, active, social, and hard working. The only thing that has remained a constant throughout her life is writing. Creating characters who will tear your conscience in two is a favorite pastime of Callie’s. There are few real saints and sinners in her books; more often, the denizens of her stories are all very human. Broken, flawed, and always with the potential for redemption.

Despite the subject matter being markedly hot and heavy in comparison to the stories she wrote in elementary school, there will always be an element of fairytale to her work.

Callie Hart is the author of the Blood & Roses Series. Zeth & Sloane’s story is now complete, but there are a number of stories still to be released under the Blood & Roses banner. 2015 will see Cade, Michael and Rebel’s stories being released, as well as a number of brand new stories, all of which will be Dark Romance novels.

Meet Sage & Kimberly in Until Sage by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Sage Mayson had Kimberly Cullen once, and the memory of that brief encounter has tortured him since the moment he pushed her away. He should have followed his gut, but he didn’t, and now he’s left watching the woman he wants more than anything from afar.

Kimberly vowed to protect her heart from Sage, but when her sister is murdered and her world starts to fall apart, he’s the one person she finds herself leaning on.

Getting a second chance is something Sage knows is rare. He’s not going to squander the one he’s been given, and he won’t take no for an answer when it comes to making Kim his.

But what Sage doesn’t know is Kim has a secret that could leave them both devastated and heartbroken.

“He apologized. Don’t you think you should do the polite thing and at least hear him out?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t know, or you’re just too scared to find out what will happen if you do?”
“Do we have to do this right now?” I sigh, and he tosses his arm around my shoulders and pulls me into his side.
“We’ve been doing this for months now. I’ve seen the way you look at him when you think no one will notice, and I see the way he looks at you, not giving a fuck if everyone sees. Even when he thought you and I were a thing, he still made it perfectly clear to those who were watching that if by some chance he got a shot, you would be his.”
“I really think you are reading way too much into this.”
“Am I?”

I have read every single one of Reynolds books and there have been times when I didn’t think that I would like it, but then I find myself rereading them and falling for them.

This book, though, I may have a hard time doing that.

I really wanted to like it but I just couldn’t fall for the characters like I did in the other books. Sage is that alpha male bossy man that we know from the Mayson men, but for some reason I was just put off with the way he did. It’s confusing, I know, but I think it seemed more controlling then bossy. And the character Kim felt very weak to me, giving into Sage’s demands without a fight. At least with the other females they challenged the men so it was more entertaining for them to go back and forth.

Another thing that I love but missed in this book is the love scenes. Reynolds can writes some love scenes that have the pages scorching up, but this book was lacking. There were maybe a handful scenes (unlike the closer to ten or so that she usually has) and they didn’t really start until about 70% of the way through the book.

I did like that we got to see more of the other characters in this book (like Sage’s cousins and parents) and also Kim’s parents. We got to see the background of how she got to her parents and I liked the importance and difference that Sage and Kim had with their adoptions. It shows that there are two sides of story and can show how bad things can be.

After reading this, you are going to think that I hated it. I didn’t. But will I reread it? Probably not. The story that took place was in fast-forward mode and never really developed and the characters felt very flat that I don’t see myself reading it again.

‘Sex in the Sticks’ by Sawyer Bennett will have you wanting to move to Alaska

Wake up and feel the wood! In the first of a series of irresistible standalone romances from New York Times bestselling author Sawyer Bennett, a city girl rediscovers love and lust in the Alaskan wilderness.

Valentine French may be the sassiest dating columnist in New York City, but the abundance of metrosexuals in her adopted metropolis is seriously cramping her style. Where are the beefy all-American boys? Hoping to find some inspiration, Val heads to Alaska, where the men outnumber the women fifteen to one and wrestle grizzly bears for sport. Or so she can only imagine. Suddenly the most eligible bachelorette in a town full of horny lumberjacks, Val is writing her best columns ever. But if she doesn’t get her nose out of her laptop, she just might miss out on Mr. Right.

Logan Burke is the sheriff of the little podunk town that Val finds so charmingly backward. He’s not that different from the guys she’s using for her little experiment; it’s just that one date would never be enough for Logan. As he listens to Val complain about love over beers in the local tavern, he realizes that she can’t see the forest for the trees. Because if she would ever give up her Prada bags and fourteen-dollar martinis, Logan would give her the only luxury that matters: his heart.

That is it. I am moving to Alaska and finding myself an Alaskan man. They are true gentlemen who know how to treat a woman right both in and out of the bedroom.

Valentine is trying to break out of her funk that she is in with the men of New York. She thinks that Alaska will be her solution because the odds are in her favor. And she hit the lottery with Logan. He is rugged, handsome, well-endowed and treats her like a queen. She knows what she wants in life and is not afraid to ask for it.

While I love me some alpha males I really enjoyed the fact that Logan was more on the timid side. Don’t get me wrong, his alpha male did make appearances especially in the bedroom but there was a softer side of him and I loved seeing a romance where the female is the dominant essentially.

I have read plenty of Sawyer Bennett books and this one is ranked high up there for one of my favorites. It’s light-hearted and fun and is not one of those stories that will rip your heart and soul right from your chest. It’s a quick and relaxing read, perfect for a day at the beach. Especially since the sun tan will hide your blush when you read some of the love scenes.

If you have read Pepper Winters books before then you know that she writes gritty, erotic novels. She dabbles in the psyche of her characters and show the intricate workings of the human brain.

That is what this story is. It’s a battle between Pim and Elder as they try and overcome the demons of their past and find solace in the present and the future.

Elder comes off as a tragic hero. He comes in and saves Pim from the man who bought her and abused her for years. It’s hard not to like him, even when he’s been a jerk. There are times that, like Pim, you don’t like him, but he holds the key to freeing Pim from her mind. We see his past and how he got to where he is today. And let me tell you, after finding out the truth there wasn’t much that he could do that would make me completely hate him.

Pim certainly comes into her own in this book. She learns confidence, her voice, and that there is life outside of the one that she’s known for the last few years. She knows that Elder is a bad man (she’s lived it and seen it) but she also knows that he may be the only one that can help her get her life back, even if he uses unconventional ways. There were times that I was rooting for her and then there were times that I was like ‘oh my God you need to leave this jerk-off’.

Unlike the first two books that had a lot of things and moving pieces, this one does draw out a bit more. It offers more details for both characters (especially Elder). He is no longer the mysterious man that he was in the first two books and I liked that. But it took some force to actually get through the books because usually there is a scene or two that have passion erupting and love scenes ensuing, but this one didn’t have that many.

There is a bit of a cliffhanger at the end (but not as big as the one from the last book). While there wasn’t a lot of action in this story but it does allow you to get to know Elder some more. I am excited to where Pepper Winters takes us next.
