Book review – “Always Us” by Allie Everhart – disappointing ending to a disappointing series

In the final book of the Jade series, Garrett tries to save Jade before time runs out and she gets killed and Jade tries to figure out what she wants for her future with Garrett.

Like the last three books, this book started off strong, had a weak middle, and a decent ending. For me, the epilogue saved this book from being a total dislike.

The premise of the entire story is intriguing enough that it’s disappointing that Everhart didn’t use it to her potential. She had the tension there with the Organization wanting to kill Jade but then when it gets interesting, it just resolves itself just like that and the threat is gone. You’re like ‘Really, that’s all there is’.

There were a lot of awkward moments between Jade and Garrett that just felt forced. It was confusing because it was like Everhart was conflicted with trying to make a Romance novel or a New Adult novel but couldn’t make up her mind. She would be explicit in some scenes and glaze over in others.

One bright spot of the book is Harper and Sean’s story. I found myself reading it just to see how their story ends up, wishing that I was reading about their story instead. Maybe sometime down the road she will give us insight to how they found their way back together.

The best part was the epilogue as we get to see the couple’s life unfold over the next decade or so. We get to see a glimpse of how Jade has changed her mind about having kids and how they were able to make their marriage work, despite the odds of it lasting.

The series had potential at the beginning and I wanted to like it, but the last four books just left me disappointed. I wish the series would have ended after book #4. I would have liked it a whole lot more.

Late last night, the cover for the final book in the Jade series, Always Us, was released through the author, Allie Everhart’s, Facebook page.

On the cover, you see Garrett hugging Jade from behind before kissing her cheek. It’s a very touching and beautiful cover and with the title, you really start to get the sense of a finale coming.

The release date and the official synopsis are still to be determined, but it should come out sometime this year. But we do know, that the truth about the Organization is going to come out an the fate of Jade and Garrett will be decided.

In the 7th book in the Jade series, Jade and Garrett come to terms with the people that have been following them in the last book and are pleasantly surprised at who it is. They think that they are finally free of the Organization but quickly find out that once they want you, there is no escaping their grasps. They must risk everything that they’ve built to try and get to their happy ever after.

Many of the issues that I had with the last book and half were still present in this story. It starts off great with excitement but it’s anticlimactic. It’s slow in the middle as nothing happens and then there is a cliffhanger ending that is enticing enough to keep you interested.

The story fails to do what the first three books did so successfully and that show that life is anything but a picnic. Jade and Garrett got married young and only knowing each other a year, but this doesn’t seem to be a problem for them. They hardly fight and if they do, one concedes to the other without a big argument. They lost that fire that we saw in the first few books and I for one miss it. We saw a shimmer of that a few times in the book but not enough to keep me interested in the whole book.

The bright side of the story is that Everhart has been able to work the Organization into the story as a main component rather then some side story that we know nothing about. We are finally seeing all the sides of this organization and what makes it tick. It introduces us to Garrett’s grandfather, Holton, and we see the bad side of being part of the Organization.

The next book is the final book in the series so it should be wrapping up the whole story. If Everhart can stay away from repeating herself over and over again and redoing the same scenes we’ve read in previous books then it should find some success, but if she just takes pieces from each book then it might end in a disappointment.

Book of the Week – “Becoming Us” by Allie Everhart

becoming us

In the final book in the Jade series, Garrett is going to be searching for Jade (who got kidnapped at the end of the last book) while trying to figure out what the organization wants from him. This is going to have a lot of drama and a bit of a thrilling mix as Garrett will stop at nothing to get Jade back. Should be interesting to see how things unfold in this final book and see if Garrett and Jade can get their happy ever after.

fractured

#4 –  Fractured by Sydney Landon
Out: 12/20

The first book left fans wanting more and that’s the way to kick off a new series. Lia and Lucian will have to try and move on from what happened in the first book. Lucian fell in love despite trying everything in his power to not do that but it might be to much for Lia. It should be another roller coaster ride as the first one was and another one that you can’t put down.

forever with me

#3 – Forever with Me by Kristen Proby
Out: 12/2
In this book, we follow Domenic the love child of the patriarch of the family as he embarks on his love affair. He was introduced about half way through the series and quickly became a fan favorite as he had all that romantic qualities that we love to read in a leading male.

Wicked AmazonGRSW

#2- Wicked by Jennifer Armentrout
Out: 12/9
In the first book in this new series by Armentrout, we get a mix of thrilling, romance, and supernatural as the lead characters try and understand the magic of New Orleans. Ivy and Ren are going to be our two leads in this story as they try and figure out the murders that is going on in the city. No doubt that that characters are going to be fun to watch as Armentrout is amazing at creating dynamic and fun characters and make a story that readers just can’t put down.

breaking the rules

#1- Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry
Out: 12/9
This book is falling between the first and second book. We get to see that road trip that Noah and Echo talked about in the second book. This is going to be a great addition to the series as we finally see the part of their relationship that puts the nail in solidifying their relationship. Expect a lot of antics and fun times for these two and the moment that will make you fall more in love with them.

Cover for “Becoming Us” by Allie Everhart released

becoming us

Yesterday, Author Allie Everhart released the new cover for the 7th book in the Jade series, Becoming Us, through her Facebook page.

The cover is a beautiful picture of Jade and Garrett and really shows the bond that they have with one another. This book will certainly challenge them as a couple more so then they had in the past as the Organization refuses to let Garrett goes (it appears).

There is still no official word on whether or not this will be the final book in the series, but we should find out when the book is finished. Everhart has expressed how much that she loves writing about Garrett and Jade and it wouldn’t be surprising if there is another book or two up her sleeve.

Becoming Us doesn’t have a release date yet, but if you add the book to your Goodreads shelf, you can receive the information when it comes out.

Book review: “Finding Us” by Allie Everhart – Garrett and Jade find that they have yet to get their happy ever after

finding us cover

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 6 of Jade series
Rating: 16+ for language, sensual content
Genre: Romance
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22567734-finding-us?from_search=true

In the 6th book in the series, Garrett and Jade adjust to married life as they start college at a new school in California. They quickly see that their happy ever after is still an arm’s length away.

Of course over the summer, the couple felt on high and were stuck in that honeymoon phase of married life and quickly see that all good things will come to an end. The things that were complicated in their relationship before they got married are still there and don’t get any better after they get married. Like most couples, they argue about money, spending time with one another, and secrets that they both like to keep from one another.

Through and through, though, Garrett and Jade always find a way to get through whatever life throws their way. They have each other and they know that their love can endure anything. At least that’s what they think.

No matter where the series goes you are going to be rooting for Garrett and Jade through it all. Even though that they had gone through enough as it is, you had to know that it wasn’t going to be that easy for them.

Everhart does a good job at intertwining the mystery of the organization into the story. Unlike the other stories, the insertion of the organization into the story didn’t feel forced and it mixed well with what she is trying to do. Or least what I think that she is trying to do.

That pesky organization comes back into their lives and looks like they are not quite ready to let go of Garrett and the Kensington name. Of course, we don’t know what they want but I’m sure we will figure that out in the next book.

The ending is quite the cliffhanger and will leaving with too many questions and roads that the story can go. The story builds up to what is going to be a great next book as we try and figure out what the organization wants with Garrett and how deep does this organization goes.

The only bad thing about this series is that we don’t know how many books are going to be in. We know of at least one more, but depending on how that one comes out, there may be more. If Everhart can keep it interesting enough, then she might find success but she will run into the problem of finding a good way to end the series and not do what movies do and not know when to stop making sequels.
