Review: ‘Friday’ by EL Todd – Axel tries to live a life without Marie

In the next book of the series, Axel tries to live his life without Marie but he quickly sees that while it might he thinks is best for her, it might be the worst thing for both of them.

Much like the first couple, Axel and Marie suffer a break up because of the man’s insecurities and then that aha moment goes off and he tries to win her back. Unlike the first couple though, it only happens once. And unlike the first couple, while it may be frustrating to see Axel keep denying his love for Marie, I can understand it. They quickly became my favorite couple of the series because with them, I wasn’t just rereading the same things over and over again.

Axel got a lot of baggage that he is carrying and I love that Marie is the one that makes him face what happened in his past. It’s obvious that what happened with his Dad is going to cause problems with Marie. You would have to be blind to not see that. What I like the most, and something that EL Todd does an amazing job in, is how his father’s decisions molded the people that Axel and Frankie became.

Marie has her own things that she needs to work through. I like that she doesn’t just give into Axel and his problems that she makes him face what his problems are and that he is not the man that he is better than the man that he thinks that he is. My favorite scenes with her though are the ones where she protects Frankie’s honor and snaps at Hawke for what he’s doing to her. As we know, he doesn’t exactly leave her life but Marie hates that he thinks that he can just essentially stalk her but not be with her and make her happy. It’s a fair point and I know that we all wish we could have a friend that would defend our backs like her.

While I did like Marie and Axel as a couple better, I felt it was a little repetitive to how the first couple went. I would have liked to have seen more of a difference between the two sets because it felt like it was just too much the same. I hope that with the next couple there is more differences.

Rating: B

New “Spider-man” TV spot hints at ending of movie

With the release of The Amazing Spider-man 2 just around the corner, new TV spots have been hitting the airwaves getting us ready for the release. While most of the TV spots are short and only show footage that we’ve already seen in the trailers, there is one new TV spot that is certainly worth noticing.

This TV spot is about a minute long, and while it has a lot of footage already shown, the new footage is what you want to pay attention to. We learn why Harry Osborne (Dean DeHaan) is looking for Spider-man (Andrew Garfield) and why he wants his revenge. We also get some cool fighting sequences that we haven’t seen yet, but that’s not even the best part.

The thing that is most intriguing is what you get toward the end of the spot. We get a look at what could be potentially series changing. Fans of the comic book may know what I am talking about as they are the ones that have been thinking that this might be something happening with Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone).

Fans of the comic book have been speculating that there might be an ill future in this movie as Mary Jane (who had been played by Shailene Woodley) was supposed to be introduced in the movie. While her character has been cut out, it doesn’t mean that they won’t be introducing her soon. Most likely Mary Jane’s character will come in the next movie and set up Peter Parker’s and her story.

Of course this is all speculation and it’s only going to get confirmed or denied when the movie comes out on May 2nd.

New images from “The Amazing Spider-man 2” released

With the Spider-man movie taking center stage on this week’s issue of Entertainment Weekly, we were given some new images from the movie.

In the images, we get a good look at the Green Goblin (Dean DeHaan) and the Rhino (Paul Giamatti) plus a good action shot of Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone). There are also two photos of the behind the scenes look at Dean DeHaan in his Green Goblin costume and Mark Webb talking with Stan Lee.

The article also talks about the story of the movie and how it is based on the 1973 comic that was titled as ‘The Turning Point’. Fans of the comic book know what happens in this issue (I won’t say it to ruin it for those of you who haven’t) and know what this could mean for the future of the films.

As of now, Sony has signed up for two more film after this one coming out in 2016 and 2018 (Andrew Garfield aka Peter Parker/Spider-man is only signed on for 2016 movie) with the spin-off Sinister Six most likely going to make appearance somewhere between 2015 and 2018.

It looks like Sony is going to be try ahead of the curve with it’s villain-focus movie and hope to get the success that Disney did with The Avengers. Until then, they have a busy schedule ahead of them with the release of The Amazing Spider-man just around the corner.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 stars Garfield, Stone, Giamatti, DeHaan and Jamie Foxx and is set to come out May 2nd.

7 New “The Amazing Spider-man 2” stills released

Today, seven new official stills have been released from the upcoming film The Amazing Spider-man 2 from Total Film.

In the pictures, we get first looks at Gwen Stacey (Emma Stone) as she is on what looks like a giant wheel in a giant clock, two more from Electro (Jamie Foxx) but one of them is showing him probably right after he gets the powers; Spider-man (Andrew Garfield) looking like he’s having some fun with the Rhino (Paul Giamatti); Harry Osborne (Dean DeHaan) talking with Spider-man about something; and another 2 of Spider-man showing off his skills.

These pictures are really starting to paint a picture of how the movie is going to come out. It looks like it’s going to depend highly on the graphics, like The Avengers did, so it’s probably that there is a large budget for this movie. Don’t be surprised if starting March or April you see this movie everywhere.

The movie stars Garfield, Stone, Foxx, Giamatti, DeHaan and is set to come out May 4th.

Three New Posters for “The Amazing Spider-man 2” Movie

Sony has released three new official posters for the upcoming film, The Amazing Spider-man 2.

In the three posters, it looks like Spider-man is facing off against Electro and we get some great graphics on the posters. The graphics look really good and for me it, it bodes well for how well the movie will come out. Especially the highly graphic scenes when Electro and Spider-man fight.

The movie stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, and Jamie Foxx and is set to come out May 2nd.

New Trailer Review Week ending 1/4

It was another slow week with new trailers but the two trailers that came out were big. We get another look at the new movie The Amazing Spider-man 2 and we get the first look at the Veronica Mars movie.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 Teaser Trailer
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx
Out: 5/2

In this new trailer, we got a look at the fight between Electro (Foxx) and Spider-man (Garfield). This looks like probably the small battle between the two, probably right after Maxwell Dillon starts being Electro. Either way, it still looks amazing and like a battle that will have a lot of special effects and CGI moments. So far, there has been quite a bit of footage shown for this movie in a short amount of time, but that’s expected with the movie coming out in five months. Probably in a month or two, we will get official clips and we will be able to see just how well this movie is going to come out. For me, I can not wait.

Veronica Mars Movie Trailer #1
Starring: Kristen Bell, Jamie Lee Curtis, Krysten Ritter
Out: 3/14

This is one of those movies that you can get on board with, even though it’s not an original idea. Veronica Mars was a very popular show when it was on . This show launched the career of Kristen Bell and really showed her range as she did action, drama, comedy, and scary. It was a great show for teenagers and no doubt it will be those teenagers that will be at the theaters to see this movie. There have been quite a few movies that have based on TV shows recently (21 Jump Street, Transformers, Star Trek) and hopes to get the type of success they did.

New Trailer Review Week of 12/9

There was a lot of big trailers coming out this week. We get first looks at some sci-fi movies that will be ultimately competing against one another for the fans of the sci-fi movies. 2014 will hope to get back to where animated movies should be, and that’s something that both parents and kids can enjoy and this year, they might be able to do that.

The biggest trailers come from the Legend of Hercules as we get to first look at the origin story from of the beloved gods; and The Amazing Spider-man 2 as we get some more footage from the upcoming sequel anda closer look at the 2 villains in the movie.

Bad Words
Starring: Jason Bateman, Kathryn Hahn, Allison Janney
Out: Limited Release 3/21/14

Jason Bateman stars and directs this movie about a man who is able to get into 8th grade spelling bees on a technicality. It looks like a crude and sarcastic kind of movie so if you like these kinds of movies, then this might be worth the watch.

Jupiter Ascending
Starring: Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum
Out: 7/25/14

This is a new kind of sci-fi movie. There wasn’t much of the story explained in the trailer so it looks very confusing and weird. Not really for me, but the fact that it stars Channing Tatum and Mila Kunis it should draw in a crowd.

Godzilla
Starring: Aaron Johnson-Taylor, Elizabeth Olsen, Bryan Cranston
Out: 5/16/14

It’s a modern take on a story that has been told time and time again. It really doesn’t look any different then the last few that have been made and at this point peaks nothing of my interest to go and see it. What will help this movie is the fact it’s a classic tale so it’s got a strong fan base for it at the box office.

Edge of Tomorrow
Starring: Tom Cruise, Emily Blunt
Out: 6/6/14

The movie seems a lot like Source Code where Tom Cruise’s character keeps coming back to the same point during a battle to try and stop it. Source Code was a very intresting story because it was different, but this one might fall short for the fact that it’s a 2nd of it’s kind. It what looks like a long list of sci-fi movies coming out in 2014, I’m not sure this one will have enough to draw in a crowd.

The Legend of Hercules Trailer #1
Starring: Kellan Lutz, Gaia Weiss, Scott Adkins
Out: 7/10

This movie is an origin story from the Immortals and it’s about Hercules, one of the more well-known gods. Kellan Lutz tries his hand at leading a movie and from the surface, it looks like he might succeed. It has a lot of the action and drama that we have seen from the Immortals that I think that if this movie is successful, it could lead for a series of new origin movies about Greek gods to come out.

Rio 2 Trailer #2
Starring: Jesse Eisenberg, Anne Hathaway, Amandla Stenberg
Out: 4/11

In the sequel to the smash hit, the birds of Rio return and go to the Amazon in an attempt to find Jewel’s family. The full cast is back and there are a couple of new characters, which include Bruno Mars as Jewel’s ex-boyfriend who obviously makes Blu jealous. The movie looks like it will have the laughs that we saw from the first movie, and with the colors beautiful colors and songs, it should be a nice movie for children and parents.

The Amazing Spider-man International Trailer
Starring: Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone, Jamie Foxx
Out: 5/3

The official first look was released the first week of December, but this trailer offered some new footage. Unlike the first trailer, this one had more footage about Electro and Rhino and not so much about the Green Goblin. This one is a little more comforting as I had thought that it might be too much about the Green Goblin and not enough about the other two. But it looks good so far. There are some light moments, like we see at the end, and it’s going to really help make the movie that much better.

The Nut Job Trailer #2
Starring: Will Arnett, Katherine Heigl, Brendan Fraser
Out: 1/17

Squirrels are certainly a different kind of animal that hasn’t really been brought to the big screen for little kids and this one might do the job. It has a good story line that can offer a lot of opportunities for comedy and from what the trailer offered so far, they do deliver. It should be a good movie for parents to take their kids to in what is usually a slow month at the box office.
