In the 7th book in the Jade series, Jade and Garrett come to terms with the people that have been following them in the last book and are pleasantly surprised at who it is. They think that they are finally free of the Organization but quickly find out that once they want you, there is no escaping their grasps. They must risk everything that they’ve built to try and get to their happy ever after.
Many of the issues that I had with the last book and half were still present in this story. It starts off great with excitement but it’s anticlimactic. It’s slow in the middle as nothing happens and then there is a cliffhanger ending that is enticing enough to keep you interested.
The story fails to do what the first three books did so successfully and that show that life is anything but a picnic. Jade and Garrett got married young and only knowing each other a year, but this doesn’t seem to be a problem for them. They hardly fight and if they do, one concedes to the other without a big argument. They lost that fire that we saw in the first few books and I for one miss it. We saw a shimmer of that a few times in the book but not enough to keep me interested in the whole book.
The bright side of the story is that Everhart has been able to work the Organization into the story as a main component rather then some side story that we know nothing about. We are finally seeing all the sides of this organization and what makes it tick. It introduces us to Garrett’s grandfather, Holton, and we see the bad side of being part of the Organization.
The next book is the final book in the series so it should be wrapping up the whole story. If Everhart can stay away from repeating herself over and over again and redoing the same scenes we’ve read in previous books then it should find some success, but if she just takes pieces from each book then it might end in a disappointment.
Book #8 (TBD)
