The full cast for “Captain America Civil War” is announced as filming begins

captain america1

Captain America is returning to center stage in the third film that will focus on him.

We have been hearing a lot of news about this movie as production is under way. The biggest news was that Robert Downey Jr (Tony Stark/Iron Man) is joining the series after stating he didn’t want to do a solo Iron Man movie anymore.

Marvel finally announced the full cast of the movie and we can not be any happier. There are a lot of familiar faces (besides Evans and Downey Jr.) that are coming back to the franchise, including Elizabeth Olsen (Scarlet Witch), Scarlett Johansson (BlackWidow), Jeremy Renner  (Hawkeye), Emily VanCamp (Sharon Carter), Sebastian Stan (Winter Soldier), Anthony Mackie (The Falcon), and Frank Grillo (Brock Rumlow).

But it’s the new faces that are going to draw those fans that are hesitant. Chad Boseman (42) join the cast as Black Panther, Freeman (The Lord of the Rings series) is going to play , William Hurt (TV’s Humans) will be playing General Thaddeus “Thunderbolt” Ross, and Paul Rudd is joining the cast after he introduces his character Ant-Man this August.

Rumors were that Spider-man is going to make an appearance in this movie so whoever gets cast as Peter Parker will likely be in the movie as well. A few weeks ago, rumors circulated that it was going to be Asa Butterfield, but nothing has been confirmed.

The plot for the film was released last Fall during Marvel’s launch of Phase 3 in the cinematic universe. You can read it below.

“Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.”

If you’ve seen Age of Ultron, you’ve seen the beginning of the tension between Steve Rogers and Tony Stark. If you didn’t notice, the ending certainly made sure that fans knew that something was brewing in the water.

The Captain America series has been very lucrative for Marvel hitting triple digits for both movies. The First Avenger brought in $176.6 million and Winter Soldier took in $259.7 million domestically. Both of these movies are fan favorites getting a 79% approval rating and an 89% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, which is in the top five for ratings for a Marvel movie.

These movies helped set up The Avengers series. The first movie took in $623.3 million domestically and Age of Ultron has currently brought in $217.6 million domestically.

You can currently see the Cap in The Avengers Age of Ultron in theaters now.

Captain America Civil War is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo (who directed Winter Soldier) and is expected to come out May 6, 2016

“Furious 7” becomes highest April opening in history

furious 7

There were only two new movies that came out this weekend and to no surprise the latest Fast and the Furious movie is at the top of the list.

Furious 7 takes the top spot at the box office and hits triple digits doing it. The movie was able to bring in an estimated $143.6 million domestically and $384 million worldwide in the first weekend. This is the highest opening for the Fast and Furious series. This is the biggest opening for a movie in April, shattering the record that was held by last years Captain America Winter Soldier. Furious 7 also is the 9th highest opening weekend of all time and the highest since 2013’s Catching Fire.

Home drops from the top spot but still does well bringing in an estimated $27.4 million. The movie should surpass the $100 million mark by the end of next week in only it’s 3rd week at the box office. The movie should continue to do well with not a lot of competition.

Get Hard brings an estimated $12.9 million in it’s 2nd weekend and continues to under perform. This week it was able to pass the $40 million budget but probably won’t hit the $100 million mark by the end of it’s run.

Cinderella is still hitting double digits bringing in an estimated $10.2 million, bringing the total box office to $167 million. This makes it the highest grossing film of 2015 so far. Insurgent continue to under perform bringing in an estimated $10 million over the weekend. The movie just surpasses the $100 million mark, but is still under it’s $110 million budget.

For the rest of the box office, you can go here.

There are two new movies that are coming out this weekend. The latest Nicholas Sparks’s book to be adapted, The Longest Ride, hits the theaters while the drama starring Jonah Hill and James Franco True Story also gets released. It’s unlikely that either movie will take the top spot at the box office, they should at least get into the top five.

Top 5 movies from 2014

movies 2014

#5. Mockingjay Pt 1
Out: 11/21
Box office: $  (still in theaters)

Lionsgate pulled the Harry Potter and split the finale into two. Fans were nervous because the book didn’t really call for it, but director Francis Lawrence was able to make a movie and prove why the finale needed two full films. All the actors stepped up for this movie and (unlike some other movie series that we have seen) you can tell that the actors are enjoying doing this movie and want to do the film justice. The movie sets up the final movie (set to come out next year) and gives the fans something to look forward to.

#4. The Lego Movie
Out: 2/7
Box office: $257.7 million

This movie is one of those movies that sounds bad in theory but when you see it unfold on the big screen, you wonder why you ever thought that. The movie had everything that you can expect in a family film and was able to make a big box office during a slow time of the year.

#3. Guardians of the Galaxy
Out: 8/1
Box office: $331.9 million

This was perhaps the surprise hit of the year. We all knew that Marvel knows how to do movies. They’ve got plenty of movies to support that, but this was the first movie of a lesser known comic. But did it produce.

The movie set the standard for the box office and held the title of for top box office for a couple of months. The next movie is no doubt going to be even more epic then this one was and shows just why Marvel is the best at making super-hero movies.

#2. The Fault in Our Stars
Out: 6/6
Box office: $124.8 million

In what is easily one of the best movies to come out this year. It tells a story of two lost souls that connect over their disease and embark on a forbidden romance because they both know that it may not turn out good for them in the end.

Ansel Elgort and Shailene Woodley captured that beautiful essence from John Green’s book and was able to bring these characters to life. They make you laugh, cry, and really connect to them. It’s the reason why this movie is going to be this generations The Notebook.

#1. Captain America: Winter Soldier
Out: 4/4
Box office: $259.7 million

In the second movie with Captain America as the lead, Steve Rogers adjusts to the events that happened during The Avengers and life back in DC. He’s trying to figure out who is a friend and a foe and it shows he has more foes then friends. We get to meet _ in this one and it’s one of the many highlights of this movie. What makes this story stand out, is that it’s just a great story. It really develops the overall story that Marvel has been working on and sets up for what we can expect in The Avengers 2. If you are not excited to this movie after watching Winter Soldier, then there is seriously something wrong with you.

*other notables: Maleficent, Think Like a Man Too, A Million Ways to Die in the West, The Purge: Anarchy, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle, Divergent, The Maze Runner, If I Stay, The Amazing Spider-man 2

“Guardians” once again takes the top spot at box office

In a relatively slow weekend at the box office, there were only two movies that were able to get to double digits, and neither of the two new movies were able to do that.

Guardians of the Galaxy becomes the highest grossing film of 2014 so far over the weekend. The movie took in an estimated $16.3 million bringing it’s domestic box office to $274 million moving past Captain America: Winter Soldier which took in $259 million during it’s stay. This should be a hard amount to beat, especially considering it should surpass $300 million by the time it leaves the box office.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles continues to do well as it brings in an estimated $11.7 million over the weekend. The movie should be able to pass the $200 million mark by the time it leaves the box office, only need another $40 million or so to get there.

as above so below

Despite having a 38% approval rating, If I Stay continues to do well with an estimated $9 million over the weekend. The movie is considered one of the best romantic movies of the year (though one could argue that The Fault in Our Stars is the best one).

For the rest of the top five, new movie As Above/So Below brings in an estimated $8.3 million in it’s first weekend and Let’s Be Cops takes in an estimated $8.2 million. The other big new movie to come out is The November Man and brought in an estimated $7.6 million it’s first weekend.

“Neighbors” takes down “Spider-man” at box office

This might come as a shock to some of you out there that a super-hero doesn’t come out on top at the box office during it’s first three or four weeks. A comedy comes out and takes over proving maybe how unfavorable fans find the new Spider-man movie.

Neighbors is able to beat out the new Spider-man movie with an estimated $51 million during it’s opening weekend. This total blows it’s $18 million budget out of the water and should find it’s way past $100 million in perhaps the third week.

The Amazing Spider-man 2 had a decent 2nd week bringing in an estimated $37.2 million. Fans have been upset with how the movie came out and perhaps it’s prevented many people to go and for fans to see it repetitively. There is a lot of competition coming out in the next few weeks might hurt it’s numbers at the box office.

The Other Woman is still going strong bringing in an estimated $9.2 million. Heaven is for Real brought in an estimated $7 million and Captain America Winter Soldier is in the top 5 for the 6th straight week with an estimated $5.6 million.

The other two movies to come out this weekend were Moms’ Night Out with an estimated $4.2 million and Legends of Oz: Dorothy’s Return with an estimated $3.7 million.

For the rest of this week end’s box office, you can go here.

New “Spider-man” movie wins at slow box office weekend

There was really only one big movie to open this weekend and it was apparent that no one else really wanted to see any other movie. The new Spider-man movie, The Amazing Spider-man 2 opened strong with an estimated $92 million. The movie premiered higher then the first Amazing Spider-man movie by a long margin but remains third all time in the opening category of all Spider-man movies.

The Spider-man movie is the 2nd of three Marvel movies to open in a two month span and premiered around where Captain America Winter Soldier premiered. This means good news for the third Marvel movie, X-Men Days of Future Past, when it comes out at the end of the month. There is some bad news for the movie going into the future as it only got a 54% approval on Rotten Tomatoes with all of the critics agree on lack of focus on the storyline hurting it.

For the rest of the box office, the only other movie to hit double digits is The Other Woman with an estimated $14.2 million. The movie has been doing well at the box office, besting it’s $40 million budget over the weekend and should end with a solid box office by the end of it’s time.

Heaven is for Real took in an estimated $8.7 million with Captain America Winter Soldier taking in an estimated $7.7 million and Rio 2 taking in an estimated $7.6 million.

For the rest of the box office, you can go here.

There is a good new movie coming out every week this month so it should make for an interesting shuffle from week to week.

“The Other Woman” takes down “Captain America” at the box office

Captain America can’t hold on to the top spot as it falls down to the number two slot. Three new movies premiere this week including Paul Walker’s new movie.

Captain America falls for the first time in four weeks as The Other Woman is able to beat it out with an estimated $24.7 million. This bests Captain America’s estimated $16 million. The Other Woman is more of a fan favorite only getting 26% approval with reviewers on Rotten Tomatoes.

Heaven is for Real falls down some bringing in an estimated $13.8 million. It’s $51 million box office so far has far surpassed it’s $12 million budget and can only go up from here. Rio 2 falls just short for beating out Heaven is for Real with an estimated $13.6 million

The other two movies to premiere didn’t hit double digits. Brick Mansions took in an estimated $9.6 million and The Quiet Ones with an estimated $4 million.

The new Amazing Spider-man movie is set to premiere this week and will no doubt take the top spot for at least the next few weeks. But May has a lot of good movies set to come out, so it’s going to be a battle week to week to see who grabs the top spot.
