Everyone thinks that when you find the love of your life, then everything is going to be gravy from then on out. But what happens when life throws you a curveball that challenges everything that you have been building?

That is this book. Brett goes through something that not only changes his life with his wife but changes the life of those around him. We see the struggle of a man who is trying to move on from his past while moving on with Jesse and their future together.

I don’t know how she does it, but Jesse has the patience of a saint. She is able to be patient with Brett as he struggles with letting go of Sarah and not letting it effect his relationship with Jesse. In a lot of ways I can relate to Jesse (which is a big reason why I like her so much) because she is sarcastic and funny, and sweet. The exact person that Brett needs.

Brett is annoying at times. While I may understand and appreciate why he makes certain choices, it still doesn’t help that I am annoyed with him. He is an alpha male who protects and loves Jesse like she deserves but there are times when he goes back to his past and I’m just like ‘oh my God if you break her heart’.

What I love most about Aly Martinez’s writing is that she can create these troubled and complex characters and how she uses powerful emotions to overcome the demons of life. Love, happiness, and hope. Those are the things in life worth fighting for and in her books she shows why they should never be given up on.

There book has a HEA with no cliffhanger. It’s a series but each book could be read as a stand-alone but it’s recommended to read them in order.

Rating: A

Originally from Savannah, Georgia, USA Today bestselling author Aly Martinez now lives in South Carolina with her four young children.

Never one to take herself too seriously, she enjoys cheap wine, mystery leggings, and baked feta. It should be known, however, that she hates pizza and ice cream, almost as much as writing her bio in the third person.

She passes what little free time she has reading anything and everything she can get her hands on, preferably with a super-sized tumbler of wine by her side.
