Review: ‘Dating You Hating You’ by Christina Lauren – a battle of wills for a job

Format: e-book, paperback, audible
Format read: audible
Series: Standalone
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance
Goodreads page:

I have read a lot of Christina Lauren books in the past, but this is the first one that I got on audiobook. I gotta say, that I am glad that I did. I think that if I read the book I would have been sorely disappointed but the two narrators definitely brought a whole new element to the story that made me enjoy it in the end.

The story touches on a lot of things that are relevant today. Like what it’s like to work in a work place, especially as a woman. You get to see both sides of the perspective and there were times that I was just as frustrated as Evie was towards Brad. I have no idea how she was able to last so long without complaining to HR. When Carter finally comes to his senses and sees that is like a ‘duh’ moment because it does take him most of the book to actually realize it.

For the romance side, it’s actually pretty slow for the first 70% of the book. It’s a lot of back and forth between Carter and Evie as they try to fight for the same job, but when they finally get it together, there is a lot romance for the remainder of the book. In some ways, I liked seeing the development of their relationship but in other ways I didn’t. There were times that I did not like Carter’s character because he was so oblivious to the world and how crass he was towards Evie at times. But then again, we know the backstory to stuff so maybe that’s why I got frustrated.

I don’t know.

Even so, I did like this book a lot more as an audiobook then I think I would have if it was a book. Shayna Thibodeaux and Deacon Lee definitely brought this book to life and made me like it more.

Top 5 books coming out in February

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00069]

#5 – Fighting Solitude by Aly Martinez

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page:

In the third book of the series, we follow another person in the On the Ropes world that is struggling with wanting something (or someone) that he doesn’t think that he should have. It’s going to have the angst that we have come to love from the first two books as she makes him see that there is more to the world then what he thinks that he deserves. Especially because she sees what he can be instead of what he sees.

wicked sexy liar

#4 – Wicked Sexy Liar by Christina Lauren

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page:

In the next book in this fun series by Christina Lauren, she dabbles in the dilemma of when you are attracted to your friend’s ex. Do you make a move? Or just play the role of ‘friend’ and have them be off limits. Though this ultimately makes them more attractive.

The fun series is a different and fun kind of romance novel. The sex scenes are scorching hot but it’s the conversations between the two characters that are fun to read. The other couples in the books that we have read have very real flaws and ways about them that makes this book series a must read.

he will be my ruin

#3- He Will Be My Ruin by K.A. Tucker

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page:

In this new book by K.A. Tucker, she touches on a thriller and romance. She has done romance in her last series but this will be more of a thriller as she adds a mysterious element to her stories. If you’ve read her Burying Water series then you know how she can write in depth characters with more layers then onions. The story should have a lot twists and turns and will keep you wanting more. Best news is that it is a stand-alone so there will be a resolution at the end of this story.

Power Amazon

#2 – The Power by Jennifer Armentrout

Out: 2/23

Goodreads page:

In the hotly anticipated second book of the spin-off series, we follow Seth as he does anything and everything in his power to help Josie and make sure that she is safe and alive. Seth has captured our attention in the original series, and of course we are more than excited to see where he is going to take us. He finally admitted that he has feelings for Josie and we get to see him mature into the man that we all knew he could be.

#1 – Soulless by T.M. Frazier

Out: 2/23

Goodreads page:

Fans of the world rejoice! Frazier has shown mercy on her fans and only forced them to wait two months for the sequel to the mother of all cliffhangers. Lawless had the fans in an uproar on the Facebook group demanding to know answers. In this book not only will we find out who ‘she’ is, but we will get a resolution that hopefully leaves us happy. I.e. Bear and Thia end up together because anything less may lead to a bigger uproar.

Book review: ‘Sweet Filthy Boy’ by Christina Lauren – a fluff book perfect for a vacation

Format: e-book, paperback

Format read: e-book
Series: book 1 of Dirty Season series
Rating: 18+ language, sexual content
Goodreads page:

I should start off by saying that this is a fluff book that is perfect for a rainy day or when on vacation. This is ok because it’s a fun read but it’s not filled with twists that will have you screaming at the book.

I really liked the interaction that Mia had with her two friends. It was a nice change of pace to see that the heroine had female friends and wasn’t either friendless or only had guy friends. The way that they talked with one another was hilarious and the bad news is that we don’t see nearly enough for it.

Mia is someone who never took any risks and always did what was expected her. I for one could feel a connection to her (which I’m sure a lot of us could) because we all have that time in our lives when we did what was expected of us rather then taking a risk and seeing what happens. Sure the situation in which Mia and Ansel meet and connect isn’t ideal, but it is certainly something that could happen to anyone. There have been ‘horror’ stories of people getting married and then being stuck with figuring out what to do next.

Ansel scored points for me right off the bat because when I heard his name I immediately saw Ansel Elgort. And as the story progressed I saw more and more of Elgort for the character in the book. Ansel is sweet, shy, and a little impulsive but when he commits to something he goes 110% which is completely swoon worthy.

The book was pretty much all about the sex scenes with Ansel and Mia and all the different roles they can play. They were hot and scorching at times, don’t get me wrong, but after a while it got redundant because it was on almost every other page. The book really shines when we dive deeper into their characters, something i had expected from Lauren because she did a great job at mixing character development/story with romance.

Book of the Week – “Beautiful Secret” by Christina Lauren

beautiful secret

In the fourth full-length novel of the series, we follow Ruby as she goes on a business trip with hunky Niall. They both know that they shouldn’t but they can’t stop the attraction that they have for one another. Lauren has created a world of fun and different characters and the romance is hot enough that you are going to make sure you are not reading this in a public place.

You can buy Beautiful Secret on Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

Book of the Week – ‘The Beautiful’ series by Christina Lauren

This month, the third book of the Beautiful series by Christina Lauren was released in Beautiful Player. In this series, all the characters are interconnected, but it’s not the same couple in all the books. It reminds me of the book series that Nora Roberts does, at least in that aspect. These books are certainly a lot more graphic and have a lot more explicit scenes that is not suitable for the younger audience.

There is currently three full-length novels and two short novellas, with the third one set to come out 11/19, that interconnect with the three novels. Below is the list of the stories in order and a little bit about them.

The first book, Beautiful Bastard, is about a executive, named Bennett Ryan, who is used to having things his way and a young intern, named Chloe Mills, trying to make a name for herself. They meet and it’s hate at first sight. At least verbally. Physically they can’t keep their hands off one another.

The story has a lot of sex scenes and reading it was a little off putting at the beginning. All the two characters did was talk smack to one another that it felt a little ridiculous that they would start this kind of relationship without having any kind of base.

Next comes the novella Beautiful Bitch. It continues off where Beautiful Bastard ends as the couple having a conversation about their relationship that they didn’t know they were going to have. Its only 143 pages long and should be combined with the first novel, but this way you have to spend an extra $3.99 to read what happens next.

The 2nd full length novel is Beautiful Stranger. It’s about a British playboy named Max Stella who meets and falls immediately for Sara Dillon who is trying to get over her ex-boyfriend who cheated on her. While with Max, she discovers things about her that she didn’t know existed and he brings her to whole new levels of confidence as they fall in love with one another.

After reading this story, I was a little bit reluctant to continue on with the series. The first one had too many sex scenes and this one didn’t have enough connection between the two characters. And when they did have sex, it was all public. There is no private life for them. Granted I am sure there are people like that out there, I just like stories where the characters are a bit more rounded and like different things. These two characters only seemed to like one thing and that was exhibitionism.

The 2nd novella is called Beautiful Bombshell. The three men of the stories, Max, Bennett, and Will are tearing up Vegas when Max and Bennett try and find their loved ones as they explore the possibilities. It was interesting to see the three men interact with one another. This novella develops the first two relationships a bit more and sets up the third book as we know that Will is going to find his love.

The third book is called Beautiful Player and it follows around playboy Will Sumner who runs into his best friends little sister Hanna Bergstrom after not seeing her for years and sees that she’s not the little girl that he once knew.

Out of all the books and novellas this is my favorite one. The story is developed a lot more and Christina and Lauren did a lot better job at developing Will and Hanna. There wasn’t much to go on with Will, who was introduced in Beautiful Stranger. It was actually this book that got me interested in the series because I enjoyed the mix between the love scenes and the story.

The third novella coming out November 19th is called Beautiful Beginning. We go back to the first couple as we watch as Bennett and Chloe get ready for their wedding. While the story could be argued as a full length story because of its 208 pages. After reading the other stories, I can expect this one to have a lot of the same banter between Bennett and Chloe, especially since they are arguing about their wedding. It’s going to be interesting to see how this one unfolds.
These books are becoming increasingly popular and I wouldn’t be surprised if they continue on with this series in the coming year or they start up another one that is similar to this one. I wouldn’t mind either way.
