Review: ‘All Your Perfects’ by Colleen Hoover – a masterpiece that shows your that even soulmates may not be meant to be together

This book needs a disclaimer. Like a big one! Because this is a very painful book to read and I mean that as the biggest compliment to the writing. It’s painful because you can feel how hard it is for Graham and Quinn. This book shows just how hard it is to make a marriage work regardless of how perfect your personalities fit.

This story really shows how circumstances can change the course for this couple. So besides the painful struggle for the couple to make it in their marriage, they have to deal with infertility issues. The story made me see how painful and how much it breaks down someone’s confidence not only in themselves but in the relationship.

The story does go back and forth between the present and the past. So Hoover shows us how the couple gets together and let me tell you it’s not in the most conventional way. These parts make up a great love story but when it’s coupled with the ‘Now’ parts of the story it only enhances just how hard it is for them. You know that the couple loves each other but this story really proves that love sometimes is just not enough.

I love Colleen Hoover’s books because she is always able to grab you and have you so enthralled with the story that you literally feel every emotion that the characters are feeling. This story is no different. Every pain, every tear, every struggle. You feel it. Down to your core so much that it may even cause you to go into a depression. Yet another reason to have a disclaimer.

Some of the best books that we read in life are the hardest ones to read. For me, this book was hard to listen to (and I’m sure it would be hard to read as well) because of having experienced growing up in a broken home. Olivia Song narrates the story and does a phenomenal job at showing the broken side of growing up in abusive home and how it can shape the relationships you have as an adult.

What I liked most about this book is that Hoover showed you not only what it’s like to be in an abusive relationship but a look into why someone stays in them. I loved how they explain how hard it is for someone to leave an abusive relationship because truth be told, there were times that I was rooting for Ryle. Though in the end, I was not.

There were some scenes that were hard to get through because I could feel the same kind of pain that Lily felt and it was very raw emotions. Hoover bared all to the readers and showed that while we may love someone so much, it may not be enough. How you can promise to be there for someone, you sometimes have to put yourself first and get yourself out of that toxic relationship.

Hoover once again is able to create not only a story, but characters that you can relate to on so many levels. She is able to bring you into the stories and feel the same things that the characters are feeling. Add on Song’s amazing ability to be strong at times she needs to be and vulnerable at times when she needed to be was enough to make me fall in love with the book.

The story is a must read/listen to. There are things about the story that might be a little sensitive to read but overall the story is a must read. It sheds light on an issue that is very real. There is beauty in love but there can thorns on the rose so you need to be careful not to let the beauty keep you from picking yourself on the thorns.

Book of the Week – ‘It Ends With Us’ by Colleen Hoover

It ends with us

If you are not reading books by Colleen Hoover than you need to stop what you are doing and start reading them now! They are some of the best stories that are going to change your life. They are so heart-wrenching beautiful that you are not sure if you want to hug her or hurt her because that’s how attached you get to the characters and when life hurts them, you hurt with them. It’s hard to find someone who can capture you with every single book that they write and brings you to a world where life is not always perfect, but how love, hope, and friendship can help heal wounds.

Here is the full synopsis:

Lily hasn’t always had it easy, but that’s never stopped her from working hard for the life she wants. She’s come a long way from the small town in Maine where she grew up. She graduated from college, moved to Boston, and started her own business. So when she feels a spark with a gorgeous neurosurgeon named Ryle Kincaid everything in Lily’s life suddenly seems almost too good to be true.

Ryle is assertive, stubborn, and maybe even a little arrogant. He’s also sensitive, brilliant and has a total soft spot for Lily; and the way he looks in scrubs certainly doesn’t hurt. Lily can’t get him out of her head, but Ryle’s complete aversion to relationships is disturbing. Even as Lily finds herself becoming the exception to his no dating rule, she can’t help but wonder what made him that way in the first place.

As questions about her new relationship overwhelm her, so do thoughts of Atlas Corrigan, her first love and a link to the past she left behind. He was her kindred spirit, her protector. When Atlas suddenly reappears everything Lily has built with Ryle is threatened.

With this bold and deeply personal novel Colleen Hoover delivers a heart-wrenching story that breaks exciting new ground for her as a writer. Combining a captivating romance with a cast of all too human characters, “It Ends with Us” is an unforgettable tale of love that comes at the ultimate price.

Review: ‘November 9’ – a heartbreaking tale that teaches us to live each day to the fullest

november 9

Format: e-book, paperback

Format read: e-book

Series: Stand-alone

Rating: 15+ sensual content, language

Genre: New Adult

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25111004-november-9?from_search=true&search_version=service

The story follows a young couple that meet by chance and connect but because of their age they don’t want to do anything about it. Instead, they make a deal to meet once a year for the next five years, on November 9th, and spend the rest of the year becoming better people.

If it was possible to give this book more than 5 stars, this book would definitely get it. This book grabs you from the first page and doesn’t let you go even after the last words are read. Ben and Fallon are that adorably cute couple that you want to hate, but can’t because they are too cute.

What I loved the most was the irony of this book. At the beginning of the book, I like how the couple pokes fun at love stories and about how cliché it is, but then this book seems to follow down the same path as the cliché does. Also, I like how it references the stories that are similar to this one BUT then states how it’s different. It is like Hoover did this on purpose so that she can tell those readers the same thing.

I don’t know if there is anything that I would change about this book. While there are parts that I would change (because there is a quite a few) it’s more because I didn’t like how it hit me hard in the feels. Some books are able to just stroke the emotion and bring them to the surface, but this book doesn’t just hit you in the feels, it demolishes them. I don’t know how Hoover is able to get into the mind set of these characaters and how she can strike such strong emotions in them so that it makes them feel real. Yeah the whole only meeting once a year and them falling in love is a bit ridiculous, but the whole point of the book is the strongest part. It’s about embracing the day and living in the moment because they can be life changing.

Can we have a real life Benton Kressler? Please. He is the absolutely perfect kind of man that we need more of in this world. He is funny, caring, strong, romantic, sensitive, and a beautiful soul inside and out. He’s not afraid to put his heart on his sleeve (the writer in him) and while we all make like a book with an alpha male, it is nice to see that guys can be sensitive and caring just like he is.

I have read my fair share of Colleen Hoover books, not all of them but a good 80% of them, and this is by far my favorite book of hers. She is one of those authors that I find gets better and better with each new book that comes out. She is able to change her stories to fit the times and while there are times when it can be cliché, she is able to bring something new to the table that keeps you devastated but happy at the same time. If you haven’t read any of her books, you need to get on it because it will change your life.

In the final book of the series, we will follow the final brother, Tyler as he goes through the struggles of finding and falling in love. Like his other brothers he will be the manly-man kind of guy. With this being the final book of the series, Jamie McGuire will likely bring all the brothers back and allow us to say good-bye to them as this may be the last time that we get to see them.

In the third book of the series, we follow yet another person in Drew’s life as he tries to work his charm on finding a leading lady in his life, but like the other guys, finds that there is more to finding love then a charming smile. Chase writes great stories that are entertaining and don’t have that way of having you want to cry your eyes out at night. This is a very good thing. Sometimes you just want a book that makes you smile.
