I have read a lot of Christina Lauren books in the past, but this is the first one that I got on audiobook. I gotta say, that I am glad that I did. I think that if I read the book I would have been sorely disappointed but the two narrators definitely brought a whole new element to the story that made me enjoy it in the end.

The story touches on a lot of things that are relevant today. Like what it’s like to work in a work place, especially as a woman. You get to see both sides of the perspective and there were times that I was just as frustrated as Evie was towards Brad. I have no idea how she was able to last so long without complaining to HR. When Carter finally comes to his senses and sees that is like a ‘duh’ moment because it does take him most of the book to actually realize it.

For the romance side, it’s actually pretty slow for the first 70% of the book. It’s a lot of back and forth between Carter and Evie as they try to fight for the same job, but when they finally get it together, there is a lot romance for the remainder of the book. In some ways, I liked seeing the development of their relationship but in other ways I didn’t. There were times that I did not like Carter’s character because he was so oblivious to the world and how crass he was towards Evie at times. But then again, we know the backstory to stuff so maybe that’s why I got frustrated.

I don’t know.

Even so, I did like this book a lot more as an audiobook then I think I would have if it was a book. Shayna Thibodeaux and Deacon Lee definitely brought this book to life and made me like it more.
