Book review – ‘400 First Kisses’ by EL Todd – Cypress tries to win back his wife

Imagine living the same day over and over again. What if that day is not when you were at your best? That is the life that Cypress has to live. He has to live each day with trying to make his wife fall in love with him in hopes that one day she will remember him.

Man do I feel for Cypress. There are times when Bree straight up annoys me. But I know that the reason is because we know what happens behind the scenes and she doesn’t. But still I was like just give him a chance! Sometimes it’s too much because she does take petty to a whole new level. I do hope that in the next book she does open up her mind to the possibility of being with him.

The story did remind me of the movie The Vow. While there are similarities there are a lot of differences. What I loved about that story was represented in this one so for me it was a great romance story. We would all like to think that we have that kind of love in our life, but you won’t really know until you live it.

What I love most about this story is that it’s about the circle of friends, not just Bree and Cypress. It was a pleasant surprise because we basically have three romance stories in one. I am starting to get into the ‘secondary’ love story of Amelia and Ace and I am rooting that Ace can win her over.

The story ends on a small cliffhanger. It’s the type that makes you want to read the next book but not a big one that makes you curse out the author.

Ryker and Austen attempt to get over their exes in ‘Ray of Life’ by EL Todd

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book arc from author
Series: book 7 of Ray series
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/35209085-ray-of-life?from_search=true

In what looks to be the final book of the Ray series, we have Ryker and Austin trying to decide if they can move past their exes and be with each other wholly and completely.

There are times when the story goes around in circles and is just spinning on its wheels and is just spinning on its wheels to get to the end point (which is the HEA). Like when Zeke was trying to win Rae back two books back, there are things that are repeated and it gets annoying. Like the sole purpose that Austin won’t give Ryker a chance is because of Rae but it’s not really based on anything. She completely ignores people’s pleas to make her sees his actions and for me I’m just like ‘omg are you that thick?’

Of course the best part of the story is the steamy romance part. The scenes between Ryker and Austin are even hotter in this book then they were in the last book because it has that pent-up passion that gets released. For example that scene when they have ‘sex’ without actually doing it, is probably one of the hottest scenes in the whole series.

The series is a fun and quick read. The banter between the friends is my favorite part in the whole series. For me, I tend to always like the secondary characters in books and that is no different in this series. Rex and Kayden were my favorite couple in the story because they were so adorable and funny that I enjoyed reading their back and forth.

Review: Ryker tries to find his love in ‘Ray of New’ by EL Todd

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book
Series: book 6 of Ray series
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/34888887-ray-of-new

I don’t know how I feel about Ryker. Much like in Rae’s story, I don’t know how to feel about him. I didn’t like him when she was dating him but I did start to like him afterwards when they started hooking up again. This time around I thought I would because he learned his lessons from Rae. But nope. He does something stupid at the end just because his pride got the better of him. For me it just felt like ‘why would you do something that won’t work. You saw what happened between Zeke and Rae’. There are also times when his controlling side is not something that appeases me like when he acted like a child when he didn’t want to use condoms when she did.

Austin is what kept me into the story. I liked the dynamic of her character and how confident she was with herself. She did have her insecurities which appeared every so often, but she knew what she wanted and didn’t compromise just because Ryker wanted her too. The only thing I didn’t like was the way her twist was just thrown in there without really any kind of development before or after it. I would have liked to have seen more there.

The best part about the story was the back and forth between Ryker and Austin. You could feel the comfortable feeling between them and how they made each other (and us) laugh. Those scenes were cute and enjoyable especially because you know that they are going to end up together in the end.

The romance scenes (i.e. the money scenes) were hotter then the last series. Both of these characters are comfortable in their own skin and are not shy about asking and taking what they want. It’s explosive and and combustion when they are together. Way past just sparks. This is what made the story the most enjoyable.

While I did have some reservations about Ryker and this book, I am going to finish the series. I am interested to see how it all ends and how Ryker tries to win Austin back. I sure home she makes him work for it.

‘Ray of Time’ and ‘Ray of Heart’ by EL Todd is now available

Blurb:

Zeke and I are finally together.

Going from best friends to lovers is surprisingly easier than I thought it would be. We do everything together, and of course, the sex is fabulous.

Everything is great until Ryker shows up. He says he needs to talk to me and I think I know what it’s regarding. If my suspicion is right, he’s in for rejection.

Because he missed his chance a long time ago.

Ray of Time review

Zeke and Rae think that they have it all. They are going down the road of their relationship knowing that the other is where they want to be but that all comes to a crashing halt when ghosts from Rae’s past return and challenge everything that they have been building.

The book is slow at the beginning, focusing on Zeke and Rae building the foundation to their relationship. We see the passion that we have at the beginning of a relationship. And there is quite a bit of the passion. It might even be more so then it was when Rae was with Ryker.

The story focuses more on the ins and out of a relationship and what makes it work or not. Zeke and Rae are perfect for one another because they were best friends first. They learn how to juggle their relationship with their friends and I like seeing that dynamic between finding that middle ground. Todd does a great job at using real raw emotions (especially when it comes to Rex and Rae). I love watching the sibling relationship between the two of them.

While the story mainly focuses on Rae and Zeke, we do get those little snippets of Rex and his life with Kayden. As the book came to an end, I found that I was wishing that we got more for their relationship because I loved seeing Rex and how he lets her in without even knowing that he is doing it. He really isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed but you love him anyways because he is a big softy at his core and only wants what is best for his best friend and sister.

The ending to the story is completely out of left field. Bad decisions are made and it leads to a major problem for Rae and Zeke. As the books comes to end (semi-cliffhanger) it sets up for the final book where you wonder who she will end up with, Zeke or Ryker?

Ray of Heart review

Holy love triangle people.

I am not a huge fan of love triangles. This one is not one that is in your face like the other ones, but it certainly is evident after what happened with Zeke at the end of the last book. There are some predictability especially when it comes to Rae and Ryker. Is it a bad decision? Likely. But sometimes we do bad decisions when we are the most broken.

I had some issues with the whole way that Zeke tried to win back Rae. I know that it was Rex’s idea but it’s such a crazy and farfetched idea that I can’t see it actually working. But then again, when you are in love with someone, you can do some crazy things.

There are many times in the book where you don’t know which way its going to go. Ryker changes who he is and becomes a better person and becomes swoon worthy. And there the moments that Rae has a hard time accepting what Zeke did and you wonder if they can really move on from that.

The story does take a little while to develop (much like the other ones) but when it gets to the good part of the story it takes off and you never are going to want it to put it down. There is a HEA for this story as the series comes to an end. Try not to let your curiosity spike and check to see who she ends up with because it will take away from the story. You need to see the struggle that Rae goes through to try and see if she can trust Zeke again.

The best love stories are those that come as a surprise to us. The ones that we don’t expect to like but as you continue through the book, you find yourself getting attached to the characters. That is how it is in this book. Rae is not your typical girl. She meets Ryker and knows right away that she is attracted to him but knows she can’t just be another notch on his belt. Instead of giving in and become said notch, she makes him change. She makes him become the one-woman kind of guy, something that he never thought he would do.

Very much like the Timeless series, this one has other budding relationships in this story. I found that I was very infested with Rae’s brother, Rex, who is oblivious to Kayden, Rae’s best friend, feelings for him. What’s even more funny, is that Rae is also oblivious. She is so lost in her own world that she doesn’t see the signs. Us being a third party are screaming at Rex, ‘She fricken loves you, you idiot!’. I can’t wait to see that relationship unfold in the coming books.

The ending is not much of an ending. Nothing really happens, but there is definitely some hints that something big is going to happen in the coming books. I think it’s going to come from Ryker. You know that some stuff is going on with him and you have seen his possessive side a few times. This is going to be a problem in the future because Rae is not one to let someone tell her what to do. Especially a man.

While the story is mainly focused on creating the world with the characters, there is definitely enough to be invested with them and wanting to see where Todd is going to take us in the next book.

One of the things that I really like reading is the back and forth between Rex and Ray. They are like how I am with my siblings that it’s so funny to read the one-liners that they have to put each other down. But if the other one needed help, they would be there to help them. I especially relate to Ray because my brother is also a disgusting pig that just never ‘sees’ how disgusting he really is.

Watching Rex with Kayden I wonder if he really is all there. Because there are so many things that Kayden does that it’s just like smacking him in the face with the fact that she likes him. Maybe if she put a big sign on her back he will get it…on second thought he probably wouldn’t.

I have a love hate relationship with Ryker. Throughout most of this book I found that I didn’t really like him (especially after the climax) but there were times when he had some redeeming qualities. As I think about it afterwards, I wonder if I like him with Ray because she is such a good person (with some problems) but overall a good person. He is just such a negative person and all he will do is just bring her down. I hope that we find out why Ryker is the way that he is because as of right now, we got nothing and it’s so frustrating.

This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series by EL Todd. Her characters are fun, relatable, and you have two different love stories that you can follow. Yes there are some things that I don’t like ::cough cough:: Ryker ::cough cough:: but that’s not because she wrote it bad, it’s because I find him a major jerk. It’s quite possible, and likely, that Ryker will try to redeem himself in the next book but I hope that Zeke steps up his game and finally tells Ray that he likes her.

Ray of Love

Where to begin with this one. I have mixed feelings overall with it. Let’s start with Rex and Kayden because that is the relationship that I had supported from day 1. FINALLY! Rex gets a clue and sees that Kayden likes him and that she wants more than just to be friends with benefits. He is as frustrating as ever but at least he finally figures it all out.

The part of the book that I got frustrated or what gave me mixed feelings was Zeke and Rae. Don’t get me wrong. I love that they finally get to that point where they both like each other (more so Rae then Zeke) but I just don’t like how it happened. Rae just all of a sudden realizes that Zeke is hot and that she is attracted to him. Shouldn’t she have realized he was good looking and been attracted to him before? I felt it should have been something that made her see him in a different light (ie learning that he loved her).

Those questions that I have for Ryker, still not answered. But at least we know he’s not exactly going away quietly. We see that he’s seen what he lost and I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next book he tries to win her back. At this point I am still team Zeke but there is just something about that bad boy thing Ryker has going on that will be hard to turn away from me.

This book is about that point where you open up to the fact that the best things in our lives can be right in front of us. Both Rex and Rae realize that they have really great people in front of them that can give them everything that they want. It’s a delayed gratification for both of them (and for us because it takes most of the book for them to hook up). It will be interesting to see what the next book has in store for us.

Review – ‘Charge’ by EL Todd – Volt and Taylor try and do the whole friends thing

charge

Format: e-book, paperback

Format read: e-book

Series: book 1 of Electric series

Rating: 16+ sensual content, language

Genre: Contemporary Romance

Welcome to a world where people think that they can have friendships with one another with no feelings to get involved. Each one thinks that they can be different and that nothing is going to happen to one another. Problem with that is that usually both people in the relationship both are attracted to one another. This one is no different.

Volt is a player by circumstance. He had his ripped out of his chest and stepped on so it’s given him the idea that love doesn’t really exist. Considering his ex (who he was about to propose to) hooked up with her ex behind his back, its no surprise. When he meets Taylor he htinks that she is going to be another one of his conquests, that is until she shuts him down.

So what does he do? He becomes friends with her. Nothing bad is gonna happen right?

WRONG.

Of course feelings get involved and it becomes more and more complicated as they each fall for one another. The problem is that they both don’t trust themselves in a relationship with the other. Can they overcome their insecurities and find love with one another? Well that is the question of the hour isn’t it?

The world seems to be entwined with the Timeless series as it references Frankie’s store The Muffin Girl. Will we see these characters later on in the book? That would be a fun surprise. I would love to see them and how they are connected to this new series.

For me, I couldn’t get into this series. I wonder if it’s because it reminded me a little too much of the Timeless series. The pace moved way too fast for my liking and I wished that she would have spent more time developing the relationship and embracing the tension. I am hoping that it gets better in the next book.
