This wasn’t
supposed to happen.
But it did.
This wasn’t
supposed to be my life.
But it was.
I was just a typical
girl, living a typical life. Nothing was out of the ordinary until tragedy
threw me into a turnstile I couldn’t see my way out of. That was, until him.
I never could’ve
imagined my heart falling the way it did. Hard, fast, and with unbounding beauty.
The only problem?
He was off limits.
Forbidden.
But he became my
everything, and I became his, so we risked it all. It was only a matter of time
until I realized that our risk came with unimaginable consequences.
My name is Camellia
Hale and his is David Andrews, and this is our love story.

I had it all––until I didn’t.

When my job, my livelihood, and my passion are suddenly snatched away from me, I’m left scrambling to keep my head above water. Desperate, I’m forced to walk into the last place I ever thought I’d go. Little did I know that I’d come face-to-face with the woman who would help me pick up the pieces of my unraveled life.

Rebecca Toler’s living the dream––or so I thought.

Beautiful, funny, and tough as nails, she answers to no one. In other words, she was born to be mine.
One problem—she hates me.

It’s time to take my life back, and I’m starting with her.

But, as I’ve learned over the years, sometimes the toughest fight of your life is outside the cage.

Review

There are many books out there that involve a fighter falling in love and trying to separate the two worlds. This one is no different. Ryker is trying to come back after being screwed over and does that with the help of Rebecca Toler.

Rebecca Toler is a ‘doesn’t take crap from no one’ kind of girl and its hard not to like her, even though she does things that may make you mad (much like Ryker). But through it all, you like her because she is stubborn and sticks up for herself, something that we would all like to be. She is the perfect complement for Ryker and I loved watching them together.

The only thing that I didn’t like about them was the fact that Ryker was a MAJOR push over when it came to Rebeca and the decisions that she made. I would have thought that as a fighter, he would be stubborn, full of pride and ego, and not be willing to just bend over backwards to give her what she wants.

My favorite part is some part of a spoiler so if you don’t want to know, skip over this paragraph….so anyways he is down on his luck through most of the book and doesn’t have much money. He tries to woo Rebecca with what little that he has but it makes Rebecca come off as a major b-word. I love that awkward feeling that she gets when she realizes what’s going on and I just love how romantic he is on the little money that he has. It’s a very ‘Notebook-esque’ kind of love story.

There isn’t much of the fighting aspect in this story and I wish that there was more. Of course, I am comparing this book to the other fighter novels that I love where they have more battles and references, but the book has enough of it in the story to at least keep you interested in the story.

I like this story but I don’t know if it’s got that re-readable quality.

Excerpt

For the next three hours I’m swamped answering calls—thankfully no more real estate agents—and helping anyone that comes in while trying to finalize the boys’ events for the next month.  When that damn bell chimes for the hundredth time today, I plaster a forced smile on my face and glance up.  When my eyes finally focus on the man walking through the door, the smile vanishes and my jaw falls open.

What the actual fuck?

His head is high as he looks around, studying the room. After giving the gym a quick onceover, his gaze finally lands on where I’m seated behind the desk. Our eyes meet and my heart hammers, the pounding so loud I fear he can hear it from across the room. I tear my gaze away from his and scan his body, surprised at the physical reaction I’m having to him.

With a slight shake of my head, I slap my palms on the paper-covered wood, and shove out of my chair, causing it to shoot out at least ten feet behind me. “You have some nerve walking in here.”

He stops in his tracks and blinks at me before an easy smile crosses his face. “Rebecca Toler. Shoulda known I’d see you here.” He drawls as he continues walking toward me.

My pulse is pounding in my ears and my stomach is practicing its floor routine for the Olympics as I stare at the man in front of me.  Taking a minute to appreciate his strong jaw line that’s covered in scruff, I notice that his hair is in desperate need of a trim as it falls across one eye.

Fuck, he’s sexy.

He always had been. Regardless how much it pains me to admit it. Though his looks weren’t why I wanted to full body hurl him from the building. Memories of our last interaction flood my mind, along with the hurt and anger I’d felt.

“How ya been, Reb?” he asks with a familiarity he doesn’t have.

His use of my nickname, a familiarity he doesn’t have––or deserve––causes me to snap childishly, “Who said you could call me that?”

He grins, but doesn’t reply.

Fuck, that grin is hot.

“What are you doing in Atlanta, Ryker?” I ask, attitude still thick in my voice.

He takes his time looking me over and my body betrays me by flushing at the attention.  His eyes are appreciative of what they see, but strangely enough, it doesn’t feel like he’s ogling me.

He steps forward and shoves his hands in the pockets of his washed out jeans that hang low on his hips. “Well, I was in town and thought I’d stop in and say hello to my buddy Breccan. Seeing you is an unexpected bonus.” His lips tip up in a smile and my stomach flips again.

“Your buddy?” I hiss through clenched teeth while attempting not to let my gaze linger on his pants any longer. The thought of Ryker and Breccan ever being buddies would have been funny, if I wasn’t too shocked to laugh.

His gaze finally makes it back to mine and he nods once.

For a few moments we simply stare at each other, him smiling while I scowl.

EXCERPT

Riley~

I’ve always thought of myself as a pretty happy-go-lucky kind of person. I wanted to save the world, or at least leave my stamp behind.

I’ve spent the last three years leaving my footprints wherever I felt my help was needed.

In my own naïve way I thought I could bribe karma. You know … if I do good then good will come my way. It’s worked so far, so why would I have any reason to doubt it.

At the age of twenty six I’m happy, that contented kind of happiness not many people ever find in their lives.

I have parents who love me. I have two brothers who I idolize, especially my oldest brother, Josh. No one can hold a candle to him.

I’m returning from Australia, after taking part in the annual Gouldian finch count. It was an amazing experience, counting all those colorful birds. Before that I traveled Africa for three years, lending a helping hand wherever I could. It made me feel good.

That’s the problem though, isn’t it?

I did it because it made me feel good. I didn’t do any of it for those people I was helping. I didn’t do it for the animals. No, I did it all for me – so karma would have to pay me back in kind.

That’s how it works. Right?

I always keep my slate clean. I’m always polite and hardworking. I always smile. I’m the funny one, the shoulder everyone can lean on.

That has to count for something, right?

Josh started this thing where he calls me his shooting star. Riley-Star. It caught on in the family. They always joke around and pretend to make wishes on me. I shine so bright. I’m the heart of the family … their little girl.

But every star has to burn out some time.

Life has a way of teaching us lessons. Karma, now there’s a peculiar thing. I never knew how selfish I was until my life was ripped away from me.

Me. Me. Me.

It was all about me.

Slut. Hooker. Whore.

The taunts never bothered me. They only see what I allow them to see, and a Las Vegas stripper is the perfect cover.

My life had direction. I had a mission—until the man I needed vanished and is presumed dead.

It’s time to move on—give up the dream for revenge—and no one shows me that more than the mop-headed fighter with eyes the color of the ocean.

If anyone can teach me just how sweet life can be, it’s him. But first, I’d have to let go.
Mase. Baywatch. Mayhem.

I’m known by many names, but there’s only one that stirs panic and worry in my gut every time I’m called it.

Brother.

I’ve bailed him out of trouble for years, so when he turns up in Vegas and asks for me, I’m prepared for the worst. And the worst is exactly what I get in the form of a lilac-eyed beauty named Trix.

She’s everything I hate about Vegas: a stripper, loose with her body and her morals. But there’s something about her, a complexity that she buries deep, and I’m determined to uncover it.

The deeper I go, the less I understand. When I finally learn the truth, we engage in a battle where life and death hang in the balance.

Fighting could kill us both, but if we win, forever is the prize.

Review

In the 6th book of the series, we meet back up with Mason aka Baywatch as he tries to get over his bruised ego after Eve chose Cameron over him (in book 5). What he doesn’t expect is Trix. She has heart break written all over her but he is drawn to her. As he gets to know he sees there is more to her then what he sees in the surface as they fight for their forever.

This book picks up where A Father’s Fight left off. Mason is at Blake before he leaves and we get to meet Mason’s brother, Drake. We quickly see that Drake is in some dirty stuff and it leaves Mason to clean up after him. Only good news from that night is he meets Trix.

We have met Trix first in book 2 and then again in book 3 (but it’s not until this book where you know that). Trix is feisty and gives it right back to him but she comes with a giant bag of her problems. Starting with her trying to solve her sister’s murder.

As Mason and Trix get closer, they see that the other could be the one, but it would require them to sacrifice something they’ve been clinging to. And I love every step of the way.

excited 1

I’m glad to see that Mason gets his happy ending because I hated how things went down between him and Eve. Not that I hate the book, I mean I hate how he had to get hurt.  But it all works out because Trix is the perfect match for him.

JB Salsbury is no stranger to tackling sensitive subjects and she proves once again just how beautiful that she can write. The characters seem so real that you get attached to them. Mason is surely going to be a new favorite for many of the fans for the series. We know that he is a one of those ‘good’ guys who always loses the girl to the ‘bad boy’

Best side news of the book. More Gia and Rex. They have basically been absent since book three and I for am glad to have them back.

Don’t worry, you still see Jonah and Blake and Blake of course still proves why he is my favorite fighter just in the few short scenes he’s in.

The epilogue is more adorable then then puppy predictors on The Tonight Show.

puppies

Trix and Mason finally get their happy ending and we get to see three years in the future. Of course if/when we get the next book of the series this won’t be in, but it’s still a beautiful ending to know where they end up.

“A Father’s Fight” by JB Salsbury Release Day Blitz

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00034]

In a surprise turn of events instead of waiting for Mason’s story to come out, we get a mini story of Blake, the star of the second book in the series. We get to see what happens after Layla gets pregnant and how Blake is with her. Out of all the guys in the Figthing world, he was perhaps the last one we would expect to settle down but he is perhaps the sweetest and most passionate of them all. Let’s find out how he is as a father for a baby.

Synopsis

Life changes in the span of a heartbeat—one tiny heartbeat.

Blake and Layla have lived through disappointment and regret, only finally finding relief through the powerful love they have for each other. A love they intend to fight to keep.

They’ve had to forgive each other, but can they truly move forward without facing the pain of the past?

Layla’s been avoiding the phone calls. Nine months pregnant and exhausted, she doesn’t want the complication. But she can’t run from the truth. Whoever’s calling was there eighteen years ago. Unlike her, he remembers the night that changed the course of her life, and he’s ready to confess.

Blake’s preoccupied with an email, a few simple sentences sent through cyberspace that have the capability to rob him of his sanity, his freedom, and the people he loves most in the world. When he’s called home for a mysterious reason, leaving Layla isn’t ideal, but hope for reconciliation with his father combined with his brother’s secrecy ignites a curiosity he refuses to ignore.

Putting the pain behind them is no longer an option.

To get the answers they need, they must face the past and open up old wounds that threaten to bleed them dry.

Review

In this new book of the series, Blake and Layla get ready to welcome their child in the world but it’s not going to be as easy as they hoped. They are both fighting the demons from the past and they will see if their love has the strength to fight back.

While this book may not be as long as the other four books in the series, you don’t even realize it. This could be because we already know about Blake and Layla and are established in their story so we don’t have to wait for them to fall in love. They are already there. Instead, we get to the bottom of the ghosts of both Blake and Layla’s past.

Salsbury answers a lot of the questions that were left up in the air in Fighting to Forgive. We find out what happened with Blake and his family and why he’s so gun-ho on having his parents out of his life. He finally gets closure with them as he finds out why they did what they did.

And for Layla, we get to the bottom of what happened on the night she was raped. This not only gives closure to Layla, but to Blake as he learns what the most important things in his life are. His family.

The best thing is that we see that things haven’t changed with Blake and Layla. In fact, we get to see the transformation that Blake goes through as he goes from the young, immature bachelor to the man that Layla, Axelle, and their child needs. He grows up and does what he needs to do to protect his family (even if it’s a little over the top sometimes).

We get introduced to Braedon, Blake’s brother, and he makes a case for why he would be the perfect candidate for a book in the series. He is bad-ass, tough, and has the same kind of cocky sense of humor that Blake has. The back and forth between him and Blake is funny and you can see that brotherly love that they have for each other.

This is the perfect book for fans of the series and especially those who are fans of Blake and Layla. We get the answers to some of the questions that we had after reading their first story and it helps move the timeline along for the series as we get ready for Mason’s book.

The cover for “Fighting the Fall” by J.B. Salsbury packs a punch

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00034]

The cover for the latest book in The Fighting series, Fighting the Fall, has been released. This cover certainly stands out from the last three book covers as the glass shattering adds an element of the idea of ‘breaking through’ something.

In Fighting the Fall, the toughest fighters aren’t created in the octagon but are born of necessity. When life delivers blow after punishing blow, you fight back or get destroyed.

Eve Dawson has had her fill of bad luck. A string of unhealthy relationships has left her angry, bitter, and frustrated. She’s given up on being happy and settles for content. Swearing off men, she repels advances and makes herself a challenge to even the most persistent suitors. After all, how much can the fragile human heart take? But life isn’t finished with her, and when things can’t possibly get worse . . . they do.

Stay on your feet.

It’s Cameron Kyle’s motto, but with his fighting career ripped from his grasp, a child he wasn’t strong enough to save, and a marriage that even the brawn of a heavyweight couldn’t hold together, it’s getting harder and harder to stay upright. He takes on the position of CEO of the UFL, intent on hiding his biggest weakness in order to forge a path that leads him back into the octagon.

When an old rival mysteriously gets wind of Cameron’s plan to fight again, he comes out of retirement to settle old debts, but secrets, lies, and betrayal threaten to deliver the death-blow. The distraction of a sass-mouthed girl seventeen years his junior is the last thing he needs until a tragic accident shatters the firm foundation of his resolve and he realizes just how far he’s fallen.

Will they risk it all and fight to be together?

Or does defeat lie within the fall?

To celebrate the cover release, Salsbury is also gifting us with two excerpts and two teaser posters for the upcoming book. Talk about a sweet deal. The two teaser posters can be seen below the short teasers.

Teaser #1:

“Only thing I ever fought for was my career. Take my wife, yeah it sucks, but I’ll live. Take away my fighting? I hit my knees.”

“Hit your knees?”

“Fall. One thing I don’t do is fall. Not anymore, not ever.”

Teaser #2:

I feel his eyes on me, and when I turn I almost recoil at the intensity behind his stare. “Can you stop acting like we’re two old friends shooting the shit when you know good and fucking well you’re thinking the same thing I am.”

My mouth falls open and I force it shut, only to have it drop open again.

“I’ve hand my hands and my mouth all over every inch of that gorgeous body, Eve. You think I can’t read you? Know what you’re thinking about right now?”

I swallow hard. “What am I thinking about?”

“Same thing I am.”
