New teaser from ‘The Seduction of Alex Parker’ by Sandi Lynn has Emerson getting some bad news

image

Synopsis

Never stay in one place too long. That was my motto. After the accident, at the age of eighteen, I left my home in California to travel the world, seeking out new and adventurous wonders like my twin sister and I had planned to do since we were kids. Eight years later, I was forced to return home, to the one place that held the most traumatic memories for me. My money was running out and my brother, Adam, refused to send me more until we sat down and had a talk about me settling down in one place. That was when I met billionaire Alex Parker — an arrogant, uptight control freak who thought I would actually listen to him. Boy, did he have another thing coming. My name is Emerson James and this is my story.

She was the most beautiful woman I’d ever seen. But she was mouthy and defiant, just like her brother warned me she was. She was a free spirit and very irresponsible with her life. Not my type at all. I only dated women of an upper class status — the ones who kept their mouths shut and were successful in their careers. I had everything life could offer and I was content. At least, I thought was, until Emerson James came into my life. She was getting ready to go off on another adventure and I was determined to get her to settle down in one place: California. My name is Alex Parker and this is my story.

EMERSON:

I threw my phone down on the couch and paced around the room. I was going crazy here in Texas and I needed to leave ASAP. I had other places to go. He didn’t understand. He couldn’t understand. No matter how many times I tried to explain it, he didn’t want to hear it. Just because he was happy being cooped up in an office working a nine to five job didn’t mean shit.

The next morning, as I was drinking my coffee and dodging calls from Billy, my phone rang.  It was Adam.

“What?” I answered in a huff.

“Watch that tone of yours, little sister. Listen, I’ve been thinking that you need to come back to California for a while. We need to sit down and have a talk.”

“You mean you need to sit down and lecture me? And I don’t want to go back there.”

He sighed. “My job is relocating me to Tennessee for the next three months to try and save a company that’s going under. I’ve bought a plane ticket for you and you’re going to stay with a friend of mine. His name is Alex Parker.”

“Why can’t I stay at your place? If I decided to come back.”

“Because it’s being renovated while I’m gone and it will be unlivable.”

“So you want me to stay with a guy friend of yours? What brother does that to his sister? Tells her to move in with a total stranger?”

“Trust me. You have nothing to worry about with Alex. Besides, he owes me a favor and I called it in last night. Three months, Em, and then I’ll be back and we’re going to talk. But, within those three months, you are to figure out your damn life and decide where you’re going to plant yourself in this world and stay. Alex’s house is huge and he’s never home, so you’ll barely see him.”

Laurelin Paige announces new novella in ‘Fixed’ series

falling under you

You thought that the series was over but author Laurelin Paige throws a curveball your way as she announces that she is going to be writing a new novella called Falling Under You which will be part of the 1001 Dark Nights books. We will be following Hudson’s co-worker, Norma, as she embarks on a journey to find love and finds it in a forbidden place.

In this book, Norma Anders has always prided herself on her intelligence and determination. She climbed out of poverty, put herself through school and is now a chief financial advisor at Pierce Industries. She’s certainly a woman who won’t be topped. Not in business anyway.

But she’s pretty sure she’d like to be topped in the bedroom.

Unfortunately most men see independence and ambition in a woman and they run. Even her dominant boss, Hudson Pierce has turned down her advances, leaving her to fear that she will never find the lover she’s longing for.

Then the most unlikely candidate steps up. Boyd, her much-too-young and oh-so-hot assistant surprises her one night with bold suggestions and an authoritative demeanor he’s never shown her in the office.

It’s a bad idea…such a deliciously bad idea…but when Boyd takes the reins and leads her to sensual bliss she’s never known, the headstrong Norma can’t help but fall under his command

A lot of authors have been doing this recently, adding books to their series using this Dark Nights book, most notably Jennifer Armentrout who recently wrote Dream of You. The Dark Nights books are becoming more popular and will continue to grow in popularity as more authors use it.

Falling Under You is available for pre-order on Amazon and is set to come out May 10th.

‘Every Last Breath’ by Jennifer Armentrout release day blitz

every last breath

 Synopsis

Some loves will last ‘til your dying breath

Every choice has consequences—but seventeen-year-old Layla faces tougher choices than most. Light or darkness. Wickedly sexy demon prince Roth, or Zayne, the gorgeous, protective Warden she never thought could be hers. Hardest of all, Layla has to decide which side of herself to trust.

Layla has a new problem, too. A Lilin—the deadliest of demons—has been unleashed, wreaking havoc on those around her…including her best friend. To keep Sam from a fate much, much worse than death, Layla must strike a deal with the enemy while saving her city—and her race—from destruction.

Torn between two worlds and two different boys, Layla has no certainties, least of all survival, especially when an old bargain comes back to haunt them all. But sometimes, when secrets are everywhere and the truth seems unknowable, you have to listen to your heart, pick a side—and then fight like hell…

Excerpt

Roth cleared his throat. “Shortie, look…look at your hand.”

Look at my hand? Why in the world would he be asking me to do that in the midst of all the cray?

“Do it,” he said quietly and too gently.

The dread exploded in my gut like buckshot, and my gaze dropped to my left hand. I expected to see the weird marbling of black and gray, a mixture of the demon and Warden that existed inside of me and a combination I’d become almost familiar with by now. My nails had lengthened and sharpened, and I could tell they were hard enough to cut through steel, as hard as my skin, but my skin…it was still pink. Really pink.

“What the…?” My gaze traveled to my other hand. It was the same. Just pink. My wings twitched, reminding me that I had shifted.

Zayne swallowed. “Your…your wings…”

“What about my wings?” I almost screeched, reaching be‑ hind me. “Are they broken? Did they not come out—” The tips of my fingers came into contact with something as soft as silk. My hand jerked back. “What…”

Stacey’s watery eyes had doubled in size. “Um, Layla, there’s a mirror above the fireplace. I think you need to look in it.”

I met Roth’s gaze for a second before I spun around and all but ran to the fireplace I was sure Stacey’s mom had never used. Clutching the white mantel, I stared at my reflection.

I looked normal, like I did before I shifted…like I was going to class or something. My eyes were the palest shade of gray, a watered-down blue. My hair was so blond it was almost white, and a mess of waves that went in every direction like usual. I looked like a colorless china doll, which was nothing new, except for the two fangs jutting out of my mouth. I wouldn’t show them off at school, but that wasn’t what caught my attention and held it.

It was my wings.

They were large, not as massive as Zayne’s or Roth’s, and normally they were almost leathery in texture, but now they were black…black and feathered. Like legit feathered. That soft, silky thing I’d felt? It had been tiny feathers.

Feathers.

“Oh my God,” I whispered at my reflection. “I have feathers.”

“Those are definitely feathered wings,” Roth commented.

I whipped around, knocking over a lamp with my feathered right wing. “I have feathers on my wings!”

Roth cocked his head to the side. “Yeah, you do.”

He was absolutely no help, so I turned to Zayne. “Why do I have feathers on my wings?”

Zayne shook his head slowly. “I don’t know, Layla. I’ve never seen anything like this.”

“Liar,” hissed Roth, shooting him a dark look. “You’ve seen that before. So have I.”

Release Day Blitz ‘Chasing River’ by KA Tucker

chasing river

The third book of the Burying Water series follows Jesse’s sister, Amber, as she goes to Ireland and finds something that she isn’t looking for, love. While the book deals with some of the same stuff that we’ve seen from the first two books, don’t expect this to be the same love story.

Blurb

Armed with two years’ worth of savings and the need to experience life outside the bubble of her Oregon small town, twenty-five-year old Amber Welles is prepared for anything. Except dying in Dublin.  Had it not been for the bravery of a stranger, she might have. But he takes off before she has the chance to offer her gratitude.

Twenty-four-year-old River Delaney is rattled. No one was supposed to get hurt. But then that American tourist showed up. He couldn’t let her die, but he also couldn’t risk being identified at the scene—so, he ran. Back to his everyday life of running his family’s pub.  Only, everyday life is getting more and more complicated, thanks to his brother, Aengus, and his criminal associations. When the American girl tracks River down, he quickly realizes how much he likes her, how wrong she is for him.  And how dangerous it is to have her around. Chasing her off would be the smart move.

Maybe it’s because he saved her life, or maybe it’s because he’s completely different from everything she’s left behind, but Amber finds herself chasing after River Delaney. Amber isn’t the kind of girl to chase after anyone.

And River isn’t the kind of guy she’d want to catch.

Review

In this story we follow Jesse’s sister, Amber, as she goes on a four month tour of Europe and the surrounding countries. She has everything mapped out but what she didn’t plan was running into River Delaney. He crashes into her life and sends her vacation on roller coaster ride where she learns more about herself in one week then she did in her first twenty five years of living.

While this book doesn’t directly have to deal with the mafia that we met in the first book, that theme is still in the story. We get to learn about the IRA (Irish Republican Army) and how these kinds of wars are still waging in the world.

River is a good guy that is stuck behind his loyalty to his family and his brother. When he meets Amber, he starts to see the problem in ‘protecting’ Aegnus. Amber makes him see that sometimes protecting Aegnus he is causing more harm then good.

Amber really comes to her own in this story. We have met her in the first story and we see that she’s had a fairly sheltered life (which is both good and bad). She sees just how big and scary the world can be outside of Sisters, Oregon and not once did she think that she would fall in love with someone in Ireland.

The biggest thing to take away from this story is the relationship between River and Amber. They both were set in their ways, but meeting each other changed everything. They both get out of their comfort zones and take a chance on love. But of course they know it’s going to be short lived considering they live almost 5,000 miles apart. Is that far enough to keep true love apart?

The book dives deep into the history and the culture of Ireland that it was obvious from the get-go that Tucker had spent a lot of time here. The little details that she inserts into the story, like how River and Rowen call girls ‘birds’, really painted a picture for me. I was already in love with the idea of Ireland and learning about it’s culture and this book only intensified it.

For me, this book is perhaps my favorite in the series (at least so far). I felt a connection to Amber because I feel like I’m like her in a lot of ways and of course, her falling in love with an Irishmen helped. River is everything that you could hope for in love and add to the fact he’s Irish is just icing on the cake.

Excerpt

chasing river quote 1

I inhale sharply, the air hissing through my gritted teeth. I watch him lay the long cylindrical tube down in the grass with careful movements and dread washes over me.

Jesus, Aengus. You’ve gone too far this time.

Hopping to his feet, he snatches up the satchel and charges toward me, his cell phone in his palm, his head revolving as he scans the emptiness around us. I square my shoulders and brace myself for a collision with his temper, as swift and nasty as a black adder’s bite.

“Are you insane?” I bark when he’s within easy earshot.

The glint in his eyes—the color of an overripe avocado, beginning to rot—would suggest exactly that.

“You said no one would get hurt.”

“Do you see anyone around to get hurt?” he snarls, continuing past me, punching keys into his phone. “You’ve got exactly sixty seconds to get the fuck out of here, River.” He takes off at a light jog, not waiting to see if I’ll follow.

Because I always have.

Oh, fuck me. A current of adrenaline shoots through my core. I glance down at my watch. One minute. Less, now. Fifty-five seconds, give or take. The muscles in my thighs twitch, ready to tear after Aengus because there’s nothing else for me to do. But a lot can happen in just sixty seconds. My conscience keeps me grounded, my wild eyes scouring the paths around me for signs of life. A jogger bobs along in the distance, so far away that I can’t be sure whether it’s male or female. Otherwise, I see no one.

I glance at my watch again, my heartbeat doing double time with each second that passes. Only forty-five remain before I look damn guilty to whoever finds me here. Unless I rat out Aengus— which will never happen—I’m as good as locked up for this.

I need to run.

Except . . . that perimeter set isn’t wide enough. If someone should come around the bend, cut across the field . . . But what can I do, really?

Thirty seconds. Beads of sweat trickle down my back. I need to get the hell out of here. Now.

I turn, intent on going back the way I came. But movement catches my eye and my stomach drops as I watch the very thing I just feared unravel before my eyes. A girl runs through the field, her attention alternating between her wrist and the unfolded map within her grip, her brow pulled tight with worry.

She’s clearly a tourist.

She’s clearly late for something.

And she’s heading directly into the blast radius of the pipe bomb that’s about to explode.

I’m out of time. I don’t have a choice.

I run. As fast as my legs can carry me, I run.

Release Day Blitz: ‘Sweet Sinful Nights’ by Lauren Blakely

sweet sinful nights

Blurb

A sexy, suspenseful new romance novel from Lauren Blakely, author of the New York Times Bestselling Seductive Nights series….

She was the one who got away…

Ten years ago, Brent Nichols let the love of his life slip through his fingers. It’s his greatest regret, especially since she’s all but disappeared. But when the gorgeous and captivating woman walks into his life unexpectedly, he’s determined to win her back. Whatever it takes, he won’t make the same mistake twice.

Easier said than done…

Shannon Paige has hardened her heart to the man she was once engaged to be married to. After the way he left, and after the hell she’s been through with her checkered family, there’s no way she’s letting him into her life again. The problem is, the second she sees him, he’s more handsome and charming than before. And she’s torn between wanting to fight with him and wanting to sleep with him – maybe both. Soon they fall into each other’s arms, consumed with a desire that burns through the years.

But if these two fiery lovers are going to have a real second chance at this kind of intense, passionate, bone-deep love, he’ll have to give her his whole heart, and she’ll have to give up all the secrets from her messy past.

Review

In this series, we meet Shannon and Brent who are seemingly the perfect couple until one choice tears them apart. Ten years later, they reunite and try and pick up where things left off, but is time and past mistakes too much for them to overcome?

What I liked most about the series is Brent’s character. In these romance/love stories there always seems to be a handful of occupations that the male and female have, but Brent had a different job and I loved it. He was a comedian turned business man and I liked that this story had a different job for a character. It was refreshing.

It is obvious that Brent and Shannon have great chemistry and that they are a great couple. Blakely does an amazing job at showing this not just in sexual sense (because she does write some steamy scenes. Especially the first time they have sex after they reunite) but she also writes the ‘little moments’ scenes that make up a love story. These are the scenes that sometimes get lost in the shuffle at trying to stick to the big picture.

I wished that there was more of build up between Shannon and Brent’s reunion. It was almost instant that they get back together and I would have liked to have seen more of a struggle on Brent’s part, especially considering the things that Shannon had been through and how he left her.

There is a bigger picture to the story and that’s Shannon dealing with the fact that her mom murdered her father for money. Shannon tries to deal with this with the help of her three brothers but it doesn’t get any easier when after ten years her mom is now claiming she is innocent.

There is a minor cliffhanger at the end of this book but it’s enough so that you are going to want to keep on reading this series.

Excerpt

She turned to look at him, and neither one of them said a word. Her green eyes were dark and intense. Her lips were so close. The inches between them were swallowed whole by the connection that crackled between them. She seemed to sway closer, and he moved in, seizing the moment.

He lifted his hand to her hair, still sleek in its twist, different from the shade she’d had when he knew her, but beautiful just the same. A strand had fallen loose, chestnut brown and curled. He touched it, ran his finger across the single lock. Time melted away as he leaned into the familiar crook of her neck. The craving for her ran so damn deep it lived inside his bones.

He inhaled her, that honey scent, a new smell that in an instant marked her.

“Shan,” he whispered, rough and gravelly, filled with so much want for her, which had built over the years, grown higher, spread further, formed roots. Inhabited him. He was desperate to have her in his arms again, to smother her in kisses that erased all the years.

“Brent,” she whispered, his name sounding like sugar on her tongue.

He buried his face in her neck, layering kisses on her soft skin. “Where have you been?” he asked, though it was entirely rhetorical. She hadn’t been with him. He hadn’t been with her. That was the answer.

“Where were you?” she countered softly.

He lifted his face and looked her in the eyes as he brushed the back of his fingers along her cheek. “Thinking of you,” he said.

He didn’t know how he’d gone from breaking two glasses to finding her falling into his arms. But that was where they were. He cupped her cheeks in his hands. “You’re so fucking beautiful,” he rasped out, and then he crushed her mouth. He consumed her lips. He kissed her hard, and greedily, and the world around him turned black and small. It faded into a speck of nothingness because there was room for nothing else in his world but her.

Today marks the release of the second book of the Frigid series, Scorched, by Jennifer Armentrout. And like the title hints, it’s going to be burning up your e-reader so be prepared.

Open the suitcase with tourist things

Synopsis

Sometimes life leaves a mark…

Most days, Andrea doesn’t know whether she wants to kiss Tanner or punch him in the gut. He is seriously hot, with legit bedroom eyes and that firefighter body of his, but he’s a major player, and they can’t get along for more than a handful of minutes. Until now.

Tanner knows he and Andrea have had an epic love/hate relationship for as long as he can remember, but he wants more love than hate from her. He wants her. Now. Tomorrow. But the more he gets to know her, the more it becomes obvious that Andrea has a problem. She’s teetering on the edge and every time he tries to catch her, she slips through his fingers.

Andrea’s life is spiraling out of control, and it doesn’t matter that Tanner wants to save her, because when everything falls apart and she’s speeding toward rock bottom, only she can save herself.

Sometimes life makes you work for that happily ever after…

Tanner

              Aw, shit.

I watched Andrea walk into the living room, the normal twitch of her hips absent. No one swayed ass like Andrea, and seeing it gone from her step was answer enough. Our normal whatever-the-fuck-it-was between us had gone further than I intended. No doubt what I’d said had cut her, but shit, it was no different than any other day.

My hand tightened on the neck of the bottle. For the life of me, I had no idea what the hell Andrea Walters’s problem was. Honestly. No fucking clue. One minute, sweet and sugary words parted those pouty pink lips of hers. Next second, she was a fire-breathing dragon from hell—a hot, fire-breathing dragon, but still. Her moods flipped more quickly than cups did during a game of flip cup.

Maybe it was because she was a redhead?

              I smirked.

She’d always been this way with me, and the most fucked-up think about it, there was a part of me that actually looked forward to whatever was going to come out of her mouth. Twisted as fuck. It was like a game between us, to see who could hit the hardest without lifting a finger. If nothing else, it was damn entertaining—or at least, it had been until now. Now, I wasn’t too sure about it.

Those pretty doe eyes of hers had looked suspiciously damp right before she’d looked away, and yeah…that didn’t sit right with me.

Kyler shot me a look as he walked past me and grabbed a beer out of the fridge, but I watched Andrea sit on the edge of the couch, her posture unnaturally rigid.

Sydney leaned against the arm. “We’re thinking about leaving early in the morning, around six.”

My gaze flicked to Andrea, expecting her to make some kind of crack about not getting up that early, but she was abnormally quiet. My spine stiffened.

“That should put us at the cabin between nine and ten in the morning, depending on traffic.” Kyler stood beside me as he screwed off the cap. “Then we’ll be heading back the following Monday.”

“Sounds good to me.” I didn’t take my eyes off Andrea as she fiddled with a strap on her sandals, slipping them onto her feet.

Sydney glanced at me, smiling softly. “You’re definitely off from the fire department?”

I nodded. Kyler had mentioned weeks ago about wanting to hit up the cabin before everyone headed back to class, and I’d requested the time off then. Which had meant I’d pulled a lot of doubles, but I hadn’t minded it. Wasn’t too different from the twelve-hour shifts we worked in the first place, and I’d only be there until February of next year, and then I was off to the academy. Not that I was in any hurry to leave the fire department, but being a cop was in my blood. Except I wanted to be a good cop. I’d probably still volunteer at the fire hall once I knew what kind of schedule I was looking at on the force.

“It makes sense if we drive up together.” Sydney toyed with a strand of her hair. “Kyler and I can pick you two up.”

Andrea had twisted toward Sydney and started to protest the whole idea of taking one car. I zoned out, staring at her as the bottle of beer dangled from the tips of my fingers.

Damn…she was a cute girl. Nah, she was more than cute, and it wasn’t like this was the first time I’d noticed that. From the first time I’d seen her at the bar with Sydney, she’d done more than just poke my interest. Hell, anyone with eyes knew she was a very pretty girl. Lush lips. Freckled cheeks and thick, dark eyelashes. Come to think of it, she reminded me of a girl I’d had a crush on in middle school. Hell, couldn’t remember that chick’s name, but she’d had freckles and red hair. I think I used to pull on her braids or some annoying shit like that. My lips tipped up in a small grin as I lifted the bottle to my mouth. Andrea was a motherfucking firecracker, though, not the kind of girl who was easily tamed.

Hell, not the kind of girl you even wanted to tame.
