Jesse Lee is the worst!

He’s a multi-millionaire, triple-platinum-selling, Grammy-Award-winning man-slut—a worldly, self-indulgent heathen. I wouldn’t sleep with him if he were our last chance to ensure survival of the human race. The only reason I put up with him is because he’s my boss’s brother.

Whatsherface is one of those holier-than-thou types.

She’s bossy, has a horrific singing voice, and she’s so ordinary, she practically blends in with the eggshell-colored walls—the complete opposite of anyone I’d bang. The only reason I put up with her is because my career is on the line.

Playing by Heart is an enemies-to-lovers romance where opposites not only attract, they ignite.

Review

This is technically a new kind of book from JB Salsbury but she has written touches of a rock star in her fighting series with Rex. In this story, Jesse is that stereotypical rock star that fell to far down the rabbit hole and needs to find a way out before he loses it all.

I liked that Salsbury touched on some sensitive stuff like religion and cults (or cultish). I would have liked to have seen more of Jesse and Ben’s past because I really thought it was interestingly to see what happened when they were younger and how it shaped them as men. I am hoping that we get another book in this world because it’s very interesting and I think seeing Ben and his part would be so interesting. Almost on the same level of Rex’s book.

It takes some time to get into the romance part of the book as they don’t get together until about 40% into the book. But that beginning part we get entertained at their back and forth. I love that Bethany doesn’t just let Ian do whatever he wants. And I like that it takes some time before Jesse finally starts to change. Because for me that doesn’t happen with rocker romances. They usually just change right away. I like that Jesse had to mess up a little bit before he changed.

While it’s not exactly sure if this is part of a series I certainly would love it if it was. I would like to read a book about Ben. So if that could happen, you got my ok.

JB Salsbury delivers another dynamite finale with ‘Saint’

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book
Series: book 2 of Real Duet
Rating: 18+ for sexual content, language
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/40575631-saint

Where to begin with this story. The story is different then the other stories by JB Salsbury but that is a very good thing. She touches on some very real things in this world and I like that while it’s things that have been done before, it was a different take. Salsbury takes these things and elevates them to a whole new level. The story is gritty and raw that you feel like you are right there alongside them.

Mercy comes into her own in this story. She is finally free of the chains from her past but it comes at a cost for Milo. Milo on the other hand, annoys me on so many levels until the end. Yes I get he does what he does to protect her but I didn’t like that he seemed to forget about Mercy and her feelings. On the flip side, it’s that struggle for Mercy that made me like her more. The fight for not only her freedom but the right to make her own choices.

This is the final book of the duet and it does have a final feeling to it. There are some questions that are left unanswered but nothing to important. We get to see where Milo comes from and how he got to where he was before Mercy. The world that Salsbury depicts is dark and merciless which explains a lot about Milo and the choices he’s made for Mercy.

JB Salsbury releases the cover for ‘Saint’ set to come out October 21st

Milo sold his soul to the devil to save an angel.

Now he’s after revenge.

There are worse prisons than the lush estate of a notorious drug smuggler in Mexico. Mercy lives out her days alone and hidden from the world, but her sleep is riddled with nightmares of the muti and all the boys and girls just like her who weren’t lucky enough to get away.

If the people who kept her as a child are in Mexico, is it possible she could find them?

What starts as vigilante justice unravels a web of human trafficking deeper and darker than Milo and Mercy could’ve imagined. When she comes face-to-face with the people she once considered family, she proves she is far from the Angel they raised her to be.

Review
I have followed this series ever since it came out. I like to say I loved the series before it blew up. Jb Salsbury was one of those authors that made me adore indie authors and to search for more which led me to find some of my favorite books. This series included. I have read and listened to all these books multiple times and I fall in love with each character with each book.
Now on to the bitter end. Note that it’s ‘bitter’ because I am bitter that it’s ending not because the story is. In fact it’s a beautiful story that made me wonder if there is someone else in this series that I like more then Blake. And that is saying a lot.

Braeden didn’t want to fall for one woman like his brother did but that all goes out the window when he meets gymnast AJ. She enraptures not only his mind but his body and soul as well. He knows that his military life is a rough one to live with but like most alpha males who meet their woman, he can’t let her go.

AJ wants to make a life for herself by herself. In a lot of ways I can relate to her. She is stuck in her life and just wants to get to that end result. Braeden challenges everything that she wants and when he comes back to her a different man, she changes the woman that she is so that she can help Braeden become the man he needs to be.

There is another guy, because it wouldn’t be an epic love story without someone to try and ruin it, but I wasn’t sure how I felt about him. At first I thought he was gonna be the ‘big’ conflict for the story and that he was gonna be a bad guy, but he wasn’t. In fact he was very nice and sweet and I felt bad for him because he really didn’t have a shot.

There are some sensitive subjects in the story that involve war and how it can change the men and women who fight in it. This was something that she hadn’t done before and I loved what Salsbury did with it. She showed how brutal and cruel war can be and how it doesn’t end when the soldiers come home. This is a lesson we can still learn today.

While this story may be the last planned story for this series, Salsbury has completely ruled out the possibility of scenes/chapters being released. While it may not fully appease the full length fix we get, it can keep our addiction at bay.
