K.A. Tucker’s latest book ‘Be the Girl’ now available

Book Description:
From the national bestselling author of the Ten Tiny Breaths series and The Simple Wild comes a poignant story about a girl trying to change her future while evading her past.

Almost sixteen-year-old Aria Jones is starting over. New postal code, new last name, new rules. But she doesn’t mind, because it means she can leave her painful regrets behind. In the bustling town of Eastmonte, she can become someone else. Someone better.

With the Hartford family living next door, it seems she will succeed. Sure, Cassie Hartford may be the epitome of social awkwardness thanks to her autism, but she also offers an innocent and sincere friendship that Aria learns to appreciate. And Cassie’s older brother, Emmett—a popular Junior A hockey player with a bright future—well … Aria wishes that friendship could lead to something more. If he didn’t already have a girlfriend, maybe it would.

But Aria soon finds herself in a dicey moral predicament that could derail her attempt at a fresh start. It is her loyalty to Cassie and her growing crush on Emmett that leads her to make a risky move, one that earns her a vindictive enemy who is determined to splinter her happy new world.

Top 5 books coming out in February

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000038_00069]

#5 – Fighting Solitude by Aly Martinez

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23206499-fighting-solitude

In the third book of the series, we follow another person in the On the Ropes world that is struggling with wanting something (or someone) that he doesn’t think that he should have. It’s going to have the angst that we have come to love from the first two books as she makes him see that there is more to the world then what he thinks that he deserves. Especially because she sees what he can be instead of what he sees.

wicked sexy liar

#4 – Wicked Sexy Liar by Christina Lauren

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/21942346-wicked-sexy-liar

In the next book in this fun series by Christina Lauren, she dabbles in the dilemma of when you are attracted to your friend’s ex. Do you make a move? Or just play the role of ‘friend’ and have them be off limits. Though this ultimately makes them more attractive.

The fun series is a different and fun kind of romance novel. The sex scenes are scorching hot but it’s the conversations between the two characters that are fun to read. The other couples in the books that we have read have very real flaws and ways about them that makes this book series a must read.

he will be my ruin

#3- He Will Be My Ruin by K.A. Tucker

Out: 2/2

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/23441842-he-will-be-my-ruin

In this new book by K.A. Tucker, she touches on a thriller and romance. She has done romance in her last series but this will be more of a thriller as she adds a mysterious element to her stories. If you’ve read her Burying Water series then you know how she can write in depth characters with more layers then onions. The story should have a lot twists and turns and will keep you wanting more. Best news is that it is a stand-alone so there will be a resolution at the end of this story.

Power Amazon

#2 – The Power by Jennifer Armentrout

Out: 2/23

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25056628-the-power?from_search=true&search_version=service

In the hotly anticipated second book of the spin-off series, we follow Seth as he does anything and everything in his power to help Josie and make sure that she is safe and alive. Seth has captured our attention in the original series, and of course we are more than excited to see where he is going to take us. He finally admitted that he has feelings for Josie and we get to see him mature into the man that we all knew he could be.

soulless

#1 – Soulless by T.M. Frazier

Out: 2/23

Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/28020254-soulless

Fans of the world rejoice! Frazier has shown mercy on her fans and only forced them to wait two months for the sequel to the mother of all cliffhangers. Lawless had the fans in an uproar on the Facebook group demanding to know answers. In this book not only will we find out who ‘she’ is, but we will get a resolution that hopefully leaves us happy. I.e. Bear and Thia end up together because anything less may lead to a bigger uproar.

What book are you most excited to read this month?

Book review – “Burying Water” – Forbidden love that is entwined with a twisted fate

burying water

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 1 of The Burying Water series
Rating: 16+ for language, sexual content, dark themes
Genre: New Adult
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18687114-burying-water?ac=1

In the first book of the series, we follow the story of a young woman who was brutally attacked and wakes with no memory of what happened or who she is. Jesse and the woman’s story is twisted and entwined together as we find out how and why she got attacked.

Let’s start of with saying that this review doesn’t have spoilers. It’s not hard to figure out that the Alex in Jesse’s point of view is Jane Doe/Water in the present day point of view. The author wants us to know that. The twist that we get is about something else and that will not be in the review.

With that said. Let’s begin with the review.

The ground level of Jesse and Alex’s relationship is something that we’ve read before .Jesse doesn’t think that he’s good enough for her being the dirty mechanic and she is the beauty queen that is married to a man with power and money. Jesse loves Alex for who she is and only wants her to be happy. Alex doesn’t think that she deserves love and settles for the like that Viktor gives her.

burying water quote

After Water leaves the hospital, she moves in with Ginny, the grumpy next door to Jesse’s mom. They connect over their dramatic pasts and their relationship gives new life to Ginny. She sees that there is good in the world and it’s as ugly as she always believed it to be.

This is the theme that is repeated throughout the whole book. Alex didn’t know what love and happiness was until she met Jesse. They fall in love, even though they know they shouldn’t, and want nothing more then to be together. It’s in the stars that they end up together, but sometimes fate doesn’t happen the way that you want.

As we read the story, we know the who but not the what or why. As we go back and forth in the past and the present and Jesse and Water’s point of view you get to not only watch them fall in love, but get clues to what happened.

The ending is the only thing that I didn’t like about this book. It felt a little rushed for my liking. The way that the book was going, I was expecting some big dramatic ending that would involve the principle characters, but that doesn’t happen. Yes, we get the truth to what happened, but it doesn’t have that BAM that keeps you surprised for hours after you finish reading the book.

Like in her Ten Tiny Breaths series, we get complex characters and complicated stories in this new series. We will get a new couple with each book and Jesse and Alex really set the bar high for the rest of the series.

Rating: B+

Book review: “Four Seconds to Lose” by K.A. Tucker – two souls from dark pasts look to try and start over

four seconds to lose

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 3 of 4 of the Ten Tiny Breaths series
Rating: 16+ for language, sexual content, dark themes
Genre: New Adult
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17571140-four-seconds-to-lose

In the third book of the series, we go back a little in the timeline as we see Cain who has a past full of regrets has sworn to saving Miami one stripper at a time but when he meets Charlie, she changes all of his plans and he finds himself making up for past mistakes. Problem is, Charlie isn’t who she says she is and has her own past to contend with.

The story dives deeper in the life of Kacey’s boss, Cain, as he swears off any kind of life outside of trying to save the ones that no one else cares about. It seems really noble but the reasons that he’s doing it are more for his own selfish guilt. On the surface he is what ever girl would want but he never has wasnted anyone until he meets Charlie (naturally).

Charlie is trying to start over and hide away from the life that she is being forced to live but when she meets Cain he challenges everything that she is trying to do. She finds herself falling for him and before she has time to stop it, she has fallen.

As the story unravels, we get to see all that Charlie is involved in and that this one might be the one that Cain won’t be able to save. She is in some deep stuff with her step-father Sam who she has an unhealthy bond with. Tucker does a great job at showing the effects of what can happen to people who grow up in this kind of life and how hard it is to get any kind of self esteem.

As the story unfolds, Tucker shows the dangers of living in drug trafficking can bring. I was expecting a little bit more of this especially considering that Charlie was knee deep in the world and would typically be the kind of girl that would be attacked. While we get a little glimpse of what could happen, I think I would have liked a bit more action, perhaps a scene towards the end when Cain comes in and saves the day and becomes her knight in shiny armor.

The story is not as riveting and captivating as the first two books, but it’s still a great book to read. We get to see the tough-as-nails strip club owner fall in love and open himself up to the world while he  tries to save the one girl that he can’t live without.

Book review: “One Tiny Lie” by K.A. Tucker – how one little lie can change the lives of three

one tinye lie

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 2 of 4 of the Ten Tiny Breaths series
Rating: 16+ for language, sensual content
Genre: New Adult
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17302495-one-tiny-lie

In the second book of the series, we follow Kacey’s sister, Livie, as she embarks on her journey in her first year of college at Princeton, away from her new family in Miami. She opens up to the wonder’s of life and the possibility to love, but didn’t expect to have two people that fit that bill.

We had met Livie in the first book and she was the younger sister that Kacey did everything and anything to save her from the life that they were dealt. Livie is relatively naive to the world and that is because Kacey shielded her from it, but this could prove to be a problem because Livie is to afraid to experience life.

We get to see Livie change, while drastic, and embrace the life that she has been afraid to live and that includes opening up to the possibility of love. And of course, she will get not one but two suitors? What is a girl to do? Why of course fall in love with one but not the one that her parents would choose.

Tucker is able to create these situations and problems that Livie has been avoiding all her life and now must face. She has to learn how to deal with a broken heart while breaking a heart of her own. The best part is that as we watch Livie grew into a young woman, she doesn’t lose that essence that we have come to love in her.

The story is funny, entertaining, and gripping especially with Livie and Ashton’s relationship. You are rooting for them from the beginning but wonder if Livie’s fear will keep them apart. Well, that and the fact that Ashton is still stuck in his past. We not only see her transformation but Ashton’s. It’s a story that never gets old (bad boy turns good because of a good girl) but Ashton is so loveable that you can’t help but want him for Livie.

Once again the story grabs you and doesn’t let go until the beginning. Like the first book, it challenges you not to read ahead and see how things end up. Good luck in trying.

Book review: “Ten Tiny Breaths” by K.A. Tucker – a heartfelt story about moving on from a troubled past

ten tiny breaths
Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 1 of Ten Tiny Breaths series
Rating: 15+ language, sensual content
Genre: Young Adult
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15990969-ten-tiny-breaths?from_search=true

In this story, we follow Kacey as she moves to Miami with her sister, Livie after she learns that their uncle almost tried to molest her in their sleep. She is determined to give Livie a better life, trying to make up the guilt she has for surviving a car accident that killed five people that she loved.

Kacey is a fun character to read as she uses sarcasm to hide her secrets from the world. Of course, the people that she meet force her to try and open up, it fun reading how she replies to them and how some of the things that she said, I could see myself saying in similar situations. Some of the best stories that we read are ones that we can see ourselves in and that is what Tucker has done here. She created a life and characters that can be anyone of us and have them react in the same way.

The other characters in the story really add to Kacey’s road to moving on. Her next door neighbor Storm is feisty and caring, and shows Kacey that sometimes you have to do something ‘frowned upon’ to get something good in the end. With her and the other neighbor Trent, they are able to help Kacey open up about her past and really start to heal.

Trent is a mysterious charater who you know has some issues in his past. He is nothing but sweet and dedicated to Kacey but it seems a little too much to fast. When his secrets start to come out, you understand why he did what he did but also really see him in a different light. Would you have reacted the same way Kacey did? Maybe. But you can not deny that Trent changed Kacey in a way no one else could and that’s what Tucker wants you to know. Love can help heal wounds if you let it.

My only problem with the story is the ‘twist’ in it. Not giving anything away, but it seemed a little too perfect that the person she hated them most would be the person that she would love the most. But Tucker does a good job at saving that little bit of ‘a perfect world’ with the meaning behind it. The point of the book is about not holding grudges and forgiveness. Kacey is able to learn to begin to forgive after she falls in love with Trent.

Overall, it’s a great story about moving on and living with the events that happen in our lives. Yes it may not be but we wanted but it’s all a part of life and shape who we are.
