CLOSE TO YOU by Kristen Proby, on sale from William Morrow August 9. 2016

From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Kristen Proby comes the second novel in her sizzling Fusion series that began with Listen to Me

Camilla, “Cami,” LaRue was five years old when she first fell in love with Landon Palazzo. Everyone told her the puppy love would fade—they clearly never met Landon. When he left after graduation without a backward glance, she was heartbroken. But Cami grew up, moved on, and became part-owner of wildly popular restaurant Seduction. She has everything she could want…or so she thinks.

After spending the last 12 years as a Navy fighter pilot, Landon returns to Portland to take over the family construction business. When he catches a glimpse of little Cami LaRue, he realizes she’s not so little any more. He always had a soft spot for his little sister’s best friend, but nothing is soft now when he’s around the gorgeous restauranteur.

Landon isn’t going to pass up the chance to make the girl-next-door his. She’s never been one for romance, but he’s just the one to change her mind. Will seduction be just the name of her restaurant or will Cami let him get close enough to fulfill all her fantasies?

In this book, we follow Jules’s brother Will as he meets Megan (who is friend of Jules and Nat) and falls in love for the first time. Problem is, Megan has a hard time being in love.

We have seen a little bit of Will from the last book and get to see how he is. Perhaps like many star athletes, he had a big ego and loved the attention he got for being the star football player. We get to see Will come down from his own pedestal as Megan does not care that he’s famous or that he’s rich.

Megan is a stubborn, sarcastic, funny kind of girl who doesn’t let anyone tell her what to do. She’s had a rough upbringing and still living it as she pays her mother to basically stay out of her life. She does a very noble profession as she works as a nurse and perhaps it’s one of those things that make her likeable.

When Megan and Will finally get together you can quickly see why they work. Proby has a way of writing complex characters with different kinds of backgrounds. Megan needs Will to help her believe in love again and the trouble that she has to admit it to herself is evident on the page.

Once again the love scenes between the two characters are plentiful (as they have been in the previous two books). Sometimes there are a little bit redundant as you have read similar interactions in the previous books. It would have been more interesting to read this aspect if she changed it up (like when she had the sex scene on the car. It was different and added another element to the relationship).

I would have enjoyed the book more if Proby dived deeper into Megan’s relationship with her mother. That dynamic would have been interesting to unfold and certainly would have explained more of why Megan had a hard time admitting her love for Will. Also, it would have helped to have more of a development with Megan’s relationship with Leo. We just brush over Leo and why they were such good friends. We understand why they are distant but didn’t really connect with the relationship to feel the pain Megan felt.
