The best love stories are those that come as a surprise to us. The ones that we don’t expect to like but as you continue through the book, you find yourself getting attached to the characters. That is how it is in this book. Rae is not your typical girl. She meets Ryker and knows right away that she is attracted to him but knows she can’t just be another notch on his belt. Instead of giving in and become said notch, she makes him change. She makes him become the one-woman kind of guy, something that he never thought he would do.
Very much like the Timeless series, this one has other budding relationships in this story. I found that I was very infested with Rae’s brother, Rex, who is oblivious to Kayden, Rae’s best friend, feelings for him. What’s even more funny, is that Rae is also oblivious. She is so lost in her own world that she doesn’t see the signs. Us being a third party are screaming at Rex, ‘She fricken loves you, you idiot!’. I can’t wait to see that relationship unfold in the coming books.
The ending is not much of an ending. Nothing really happens, but there is definitely some hints that something big is going to happen in the coming books. I think it’s going to come from Ryker. You know that some stuff is going on with him and you have seen his possessive side a few times. This is going to be a problem in the future because Rae is not one to let someone tell her what to do. Especially a man.
While the story is mainly focused on creating the world with the characters, there is definitely enough to be invested with them and wanting to see where Todd is going to take us in the next book.

One of the things that I really like reading is the back and forth between Rex and Ray. They are like how I am with my siblings that it’s so funny to read the one-liners that they have to put each other down. But if the other one needed help, they would be there to help them. I especially relate to Ray because my brother is also a disgusting pig that just never ‘sees’ how disgusting he really is.
Watching Rex with Kayden I wonder if he really is all there. Because there are so many things that Kayden does that it’s just like smacking him in the face with the fact that she likes him. Maybe if she put a big sign on her back he will get it…on second thought he probably wouldn’t.
I have a love hate relationship with Ryker. Throughout most of this book I found that I didn’t really like him (especially after the climax) but there were times when he had some redeeming qualities. As I think about it afterwards, I wonder if I like him with Ray because she is such a good person (with some problems) but overall a good person. He is just such a negative person and all he will do is just bring her down. I hope that we find out why Ryker is the way that he is because as of right now, we got nothing and it’s so frustrating.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite series by EL Todd. Her characters are fun, relatable, and you have two different love stories that you can follow. Yes there are some things that I don’t like ::cough cough:: Ryker ::cough cough:: but that’s not because she wrote it bad, it’s because I find him a major jerk. It’s quite possible, and likely, that Ryker will try to redeem himself in the next book but I hope that Zeke steps up his game and finally tells Ray that he likes her.

Ray of Love
Where to begin with this one. I have mixed feelings overall with it. Let’s start with Rex and Kayden because that is the relationship that I had supported from day 1. FINALLY! Rex gets a clue and sees that Kayden likes him and that she wants more than just to be friends with benefits. He is as frustrating as ever but at least he finally figures it all out.
The part of the book that I got frustrated or what gave me mixed feelings was Zeke and Rae. Don’t get me wrong. I love that they finally get to that point where they both like each other (more so Rae then Zeke) but I just don’t like how it happened. Rae just all of a sudden realizes that Zeke is hot and that she is attracted to him. Shouldn’t she have realized he was good looking and been attracted to him before? I felt it should have been something that made her see him in a different light (ie learning that he loved her).
Those questions that I have for Ryker, still not answered. But at least we know he’s not exactly going away quietly. We see that he’s seen what he lost and I wouldn’t be surprised if in the next book he tries to win her back. At this point I am still team Zeke but there is just something about that bad boy thing Ryker has going on that will be hard to turn away from me.
This book is about that point where you open up to the fact that the best things in our lives can be right in front of us. Both Rex and Rae realize that they have really great people in front of them that can give them everything that they want. It’s a delayed gratification for both of them (and for us because it takes most of the book for them to hook up). It will be interesting to see what the next book has in store for us.
