It is not very often that you find a story that can make you laugh, smile, and cry all at the same time. This story does just that. Vi Keeland brings us a couple that on the surface looks like it’s just going to be a fun romance, but peel back the layers and you see that there is something deeper going on here.

Case in point, Chase. Chase is that loveable playboy that you think is just trying to woo Reese after he sees her at a restaurant. And their first encounter? Probably the funniest first encounter I have ever read for two people. She is on an awful date with someone and is trying to use that old tactic of having a friend call and whisk her away on an emergency. Chase of course feels bad for the poor shmuck (but not bad enough not to crash the date).

Things get worse for Reese as she tries to get over that crush she developed for Chase but it only gets worse when Chase becomes her new boss. Now, she opens up a can of a whole new mess of problems. She’s been burned by an office romance in the past and doesn’t want a relationship with Chase to affect her job.

Sounds like an easy enough job right?

Wrong.

Now when you have Chase using every single opportunity he can to try and break her. And obviously she does break. You can’t really stand your own against a man like Chase. Let us be honest with one another. What Reese doesn’t know that she signed up for was the ghosts that Chase is ‘chasing’ (ha like that pun there) from. He holds a lot of guilt and it only gets worse as the story progresses.

When we finally get to the truth behind Chase’s past, you can’t help but feel for him. I mean, it’s hard to take what happened to him and try to move on. Guilt would eat at anyone. Vi Keeland does a great job at dropping subtle hints to Chase’s past without it overpowering the story. She creates character that you are rooting for from the beginning and never stop rooting for no matter how stupid one of them may act (Chase…achoo).

Bossman is a fun read that you will likely swallow up in one day. It’s funny, cute, and got those touching moments that will make you want more. It reminds me a lot of Emma Chase’s Tangled series, so if you like those books, then you will love this book as well.

Rating: A

Book review: “Tangled” by Emma Chase – a fun look at what goes on inside a man’s head

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 1 of Tangled series
Rating: 18+ for language, sexual content
Genre: Romance

In this book, we follow Drew Evans, a true playboy, as he does the last thing that he would ever think he would do. Fall in love. Kate Brooks is not like any other girl that he’s met and he quickly sees that maybe falling in love is not the worst thing in the world.

Chase took on the task of trying to write a romance novel in the point of view solely from the man. Drew Evans is your stereotypical man that you meet in these kinds of books but we get to see that slow transformation as he finds love with Kate. While you can see the signs before he does (like how he says that his heartbreak is the flu), you know that he’s changing without meaning to.

As you are reading the book, you don’t even realize the time that is passing as you move from page to page. Drew speaks his mind and the facts that he brings to the table make you see the true nature of the male being. Chase did an impeccable grabbing their essence that you would have thought that the book was written by a man.

There is a chunk in the middle of the book where there really isn’t any story or character development as you read Kate and Drew just have sex, and while it got redundant after a while, it fit with the story because the story was told from the man’s point of view. Of course there would be a lot of focus on the sex since that’s what they love about relationships.

There is very little if anything is wrong with this story. It’s a fun and entertaining ride that makes you really feel like you are inside of Drew’s mind. The way that Chase wrote it has him talking to the audience as if we are face to face with him. It’s a different style of writing but very interesting.

Book of the week – “Twisted” by Emma Chase

17977710

Twisted the second book in Tangled series. Twisted is set to start off two years after Tangled end and is going to be told from Kate’s POV. Kate is struggling with what she should o with her relationship with Drew. She has a tough choice to make and is not sure what she should do.

In Tangled, we were told a story from Drew’s POV and we quickly learn tat Drew has got his own problems, despite being on the cusp of having everything a person could want. When he met Kate, he she changed everything about him in his life and forces him to make a decision between what his family wants and what he wants.

This series by Emma Chase is quickly becoming a fan favorite as Drew has all the qualities that book readers like to read about the hero. Kate is a strong-willed woman and their two personalities together are very interesting to read. While this kind of story has been told so many times before, it still doesn’t grow old as fans like to read about hot and sexy men changing their ways for the love of a woman.

There are two more books that are scheduled to come out later this year that will continue Drew and Kate’s story and we will get to see if Drew can really become that relationship-type guy. This will be fun to read because you get the truth of the relationship after the honeymoon phase and you get to see if you really can make it as a couple. This is something we will be seeing for Drew and Kate over the next few books.

Twisted is available as a paperback and is available as an e-book for the Kindle and Nook. To add Twisted to your Goodreads page, you can go here.
