‘Shadowhunters’ 1×10 – Luke helps Simon with his urges

shadowhunters 1_10

In this week’s episode, titled ‘The World Introverted’, Clary goes to a parallel universe to try and find her father where Alec discovers he might have chosen wrong between Jace and Lydia. The last episode, had Jace and Alec fighting over what each of them think is right. Jace is following Clary wherever she leads and Alec is following the laws of The Clave. Isabelle is stuck in the middle trying to decide who is right. Simon embraces his vampire and helps Clary try and create peace with the Downworlders.

Alec and Jace’s relationship continues to strain in this show as Alec is willing to risk his parabatai bond with Jace in order to try and get the Mortal Cup. Yes, he think it is to save Isabelle, but we all know that the Clave would just take the cup and then crucify Isabelle. Alec is starting to lose sight at the bigger picture and it’s going to cause friction between him and the rest of his friends.

Clary goes to an alternative world to try and find Valentine. It is very appealing in this world as she is in a loving relationship with Jace and good friendships with Simon, Isabelle, and Alec. It’s a carefree world where there is no war. But she keeps her head clear and does what she needs to do in order to get what she needs. The alternate universe is a fun look at what life would have been like for Clary and like with the books. the best part of the show is the few scenes we get of Izzy and Simon. She is nerdy like how Simon would want her and they are dating and are the cutest couple ever.

At the end of the show, they are able to find where Valentine is. But that’s not the biggest secret. It’s that he is hold Jace’s father there.

For the full recap you can go here.

In the next episode, Jace tries to understand what happened with his father, while the rest of the Shadowhunters try and figure out how to help Isabelle.

‘City of Heavenly Fire’ cover reveal date released

Yesterday, Cassandra Clare, author of The Moral Instruments and The Infernal Devices, has announced via her blog that she will be releasing the cover of her new book City of Heavenly Fire January 14th on The Insider at 7pm EST on CBS.

In this book, the Shadowhunters must band together to fight off Clary’s brother and try and save the world from the darkness.

Clare has already released a cryptic cover-hold that states ‘Who Will Survive?’ It sounds as if there will be a lot of deaths in the final book and she has said everyone is fair game.

City of Heavenly Fire is the 6th and supposedly final book of The Mortal Instruments. The Mortal Instruments was initial meant to be a trilogy, but Clare liked writing these characters so much, that she added three more books.

10 Books To Look Out For in 2014

With 2013 coming to an end, it’s time to look towards 2014 and all the great books set to come out. 2013 saw the end of a lot of book series (such as Divergent and Legend) but it also started a lot of good book series (The 5th Wave and The Cuckoo’s Calling). All but one of the books on the list are part of a series but that’s mainly because new or stand-alone novels don’t usually announce a date unless it’s coming up.

#10. Divergent Novellas: The Son and The Traitor by Veronica Roth
Release Date: 7/8
Goodreads Page: The Sonhttps://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18080922-the-son?from_search=true
The Traitor – https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18080923-the-traitor?from_search=true

The novellas were supposed to come out in January and February respectively, but Roth delayed the release of those two novellas so that she could ‘perfect’ them. This might be because of the backlash from Allegiant but for the delay doesn’t bother me too much. I have yet to read the already two released novellas (Free Four and The Initiation) for the fact I wanted to read them together.

#9. The Iron Trial (Magisterial #1) by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black
Release Date: 10/2
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/13608989-the-iron-trial

Cassandra Clare (Mortal Instruments series) joins up with Holly Black (The Spiderwick Chronicles) in this new series. These two authors take us to a new world filled with magic. The lead character has to make a choice based on his distrust of magicians and staying away from a place called Magisterium. No doubt we will get some fun characters and great storylines that will be very in depth and filled with twists and turns.

#8. Captivated by You (Crossfire #4) by Sylvia Day
Release Date: TBD
Goodreads Page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17876893-captivated-by-you?from_search=true

In the 4th book, we look to get some of the answers that were left at the end of book 3. No doubt there is going to be some big conflict in this one to help set up the 5th book. I wouldn’t be surprised if there is a pregnancy in store for Gideon and Ava.

#7. Black Ice by Becca Fitzpatrick
Out: 10/7
Goodreads Page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16059938-black-ice?from_search=true

She is the author of the Hush, Hush series which is a book series that I really like. I am happy to see that she is back at it. This one sounds like a stand-alone novel, which I’m ok with because I’m going to need a break with all the book series I’m reading. It sounds like a thrilling mystery those circles around a romance story. Overall, it looks like an intriguing story and one that I am anxious to read.

#6. The Infinite Sea (The 5th Wave #2) by Rick Yancey
Release Date: 5/6
Goodreads Page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16131484-the-infinite-sea?from_search=true

Aliens are trying to take over the world and it’s hard to know who is a friend and who is a foe when everyone looks the same. Cassie has to deal with trying to survive while dealing with her feelings for Ben and Evan, neither one she is sure she can trust. The first book had what I like to call an expected twist, but it certainly does add to the drama of the series. I would expect that the 2nd book would focus more on setting up the 3rd book which means it could be a little slower, but I think if done right it can be worth the read.

#5. Rebel (Reboot #2) by Amy Tintera
Release Date: 5/13
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/15769788-rebel?from_search=true

This story is a little different then the other Young Adult Fiction books. The relationship between Wren and Callum is strong and one of the better relationships I have seen in these books. She risked everything to save him and now we get to see what the choice means for the future. There was a lot of action, drama, and twists that I am sure will spill over into the 2nd book.

#4. Sinner by Maggie Stiefvater
Release Date: 7/1
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/18406862-sinner

This story brings us back to the Shiver trilogy as we know follow Cole and get to know his story. We met him in Linger and came to help Sam with the wolves. Now we get to see the relationship between him and Isabelle. He came back to try and win back Isabelle’s love. Cole was a very tragic character in the Shiver trilogy and I am anxious and excited to see how his story ends. Hoping for a happy ending.

#3. The Young Elites (The Young Elites #1) by Marie Lu
Release Date: Fall 2014
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/17984141-the-young-elites

Marie Lu described her new series as X-men meets Assassins Creed meets Game of Thrones. All this equals JACKPOT. I love those three things so to have a story like that would be perfect. Legend was filled with a lot of action, suspense, with a touch of romance. I would expect the same thing to happen in her new series.

#2. The Darkest Minds #3 by Alexandra Bracken
Release Date: TBD
Goodreads Page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16150831-untitled?from_search=true

The 2nd book of the series, certainly gave us a lot of food for thought for this book. I’m hoping that this one is able to tie all the loose ends and have a bit more of the action that I was hoping for when I read the final book of Champion and Allegiant. Considering how well the last two ended, I expect this one will be along the same lines. Though, authors have been surprising me of late. So who knows?

#1. Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire (Mortal Instruments #6) by Cassandra Clare
Release Date: 5/27
Goodreads Page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/8755785-city-of-heavenly-fire?from_search=true

The Mortal Instruments is essentially broken into 2 trilogies which makes this book extra special as it ends the 2nd trilogy and the 6-book series as a whole. This book has a lot of questions that it needs to answers and with the cover that was released by Clare, it sounds like it might be an all-out war in this book. Clare has stated that there will be major deaths in the story and I just hope that this book doesn’t have the backlash that Allegiant did.
