In the second book of the series, we follow Seth and Josie as they continue to train for the war against the Titans while trying to tread the waters of their relationship. But when something unexpected happens, Seth must decide how much that he loves Josie and if he’s going to be able to do something he hasn’t done before, the right thing.

As with the first book, we continue to peel back the layers of Seth and see the broken parts of his heart. Josie brings out the softer, more human side of Seth. He always comes off as this ‘I don’t need anyone and I can do everything by myself’. Josie is something that he’s never had before and he doesn’t know what to do. She is his weakness and he’s running around trying to figure out how to keep her safe without hurting her at the same time.

What I love the most about Jennifer Armentrout’s stories is her characters. While there are similarities between them (like some of the sayings that they say) there are distinctive characteristics about them that makes them stand out. In this book, we get to see those characteristics comes out from Seth and Josie. Especially when it comes from the pains of having a broken family.

In the original series, there were plots and turns around every corner. This book didn’t really have any big plot twists that you didn’t see coming, but it did have a lot of plot points that could later become twists. There is at least one more book in the series and if you’ve read Armentrout’s books, you know that you can never trust that everything is going to go according to plan.

Obviously the best part of the book is that we get to see how love can change people. For Seth, he was the bad boy who turned good for the love of a good woman. Josie becomes stronger, more confident in herself with the help of Seth. He sees what she can really become and doesn’t let her settle for anything less. While Seth is not one to admit that he’s got a weakness, his feelings for Josie makes him understand Alex and Aiden more. As we know, he had a hard time understanding it and couldn’t see how Aiden couldn’t give up on Alex.

I can’t wait to see where this series is going to lead us. There was a bit of a cliffhanger ending, but not one that is going to drive you crazy for months on end until the next book comes out. It gives us the peace of mind to try and figure out what’s going to happen and wait patiently for it to come out.

I don’t know about any of you, but when I was starting to read this book, I was practically giggling the whole time. Seth is just one of those characters that grabs your attention every time he’s around and even when he’s not. I was excited when I saw that we would not only get a book but a whole series that will be surrounding him. And we get to see inside his mind and fall even more in love with him, if that is possible.

In this story, we really get to see the effect that Alex’s relationship had on Seth. We know how much it affected her, the connection, but we didn’t see how much if effected Seth. There were times in the first series if you weren’t sure if he just acted like he cared for her because he was addicted to the power or if he really did. Finding out the truth was a little relieving because we know that she not only meant something but him, but so far to say that she started the change in him.

In this story when he meets Josie, she finishes the transformation that is Seth moving from the arrogant boy into the strong man. There is a connection that Seth sees in Josie and Alex but that connection is the only thing that they have in common. Josie has lived a mortal life and doesn’t know anything else. In the eyes of gods and Seth, she is weak because she doesn’t know how to fight, but Seth sees the strength inside of her. He sees the potential, perhaps he sees a little bit of himself in her.

The only thing that I didn’t like about Josie, or how Armentrout, had with her character is that when she finds out what she is, she just accepts it and accepts the whole situation like it was expected. I feel that if it were me (or pretty much everyone else) they would have been unbelieving and challenging what Seth was saying. Josie just accepted it and just followed him on the journey.

In his relationship with Josie, Seth changes the way that he approaches life and matures. He learned from his mistakes with how he handled the situation with Alex. She helps him see that he is more than just the Apollyon, which is something he hasn’t ever had in his life. He’s only ever know he was a mistake and with Josie, he doesn’t feel like that anymore.

I like how there is still some feelings of mistrust between the people in the book and Seth. He still has to earn all their trusts despite how he helped Aiden and Alex get their happy ever after. I love how Armentrout shows the struggle people have with this because they see that he wants to change but it’s hard to just forget that he’s killed thousands of people ruthlessly.

The series is off to a good start. We get to see the kind of series we are in store for and we will see that Seth is going to be the center of the story with Josie. They have a beautiful back and forth and they complete each other. The climax in this story is only a little prick to what we are going to get with the rest of the series. If you read the first series, you know exactly what I am talking about.

Review: ‘Sentinel’ by Jennifer Armentrout – stellar conclusion to another hit series

sentinel

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 5 of 5 The Covenant series
Rating: 15+ language, sexual content, themes
Genre: Young Adult

In the final book of the series, Alex, Aiden, and the others prepare for war against Ares and they will get help from some unlikely people who hope to try and end this war before it gets out of hand.

This is by far the best book of the series, which shouldn’t be that big of surprise since Armentrout has been building up to this for four books. Alex finally is able to admit that she is going to need a lot of help in order to win this war but stubborn as she is, it’s something that she has a hard time doing.

It’s hard to say if this is the best series that Armentrout has written, which one could argue that it is. It has romance, drama, action, and characters that you get to watch grow and change as life continues to beat them down.

Alex really comes into her own in this story. She is a 17 year old girl who has the world’s fate on her shoulders. She is torn between what she wants and what is the right thing to do. She is one to act impulsively but she knows that with this decision if she does that, it could lead to the world’s end. I like how Alex finally comes to grips with her fate and instead of running from it (like most of us probably would do), she embraces it and thrives in it.

holy mother of god friends

And the ending. Oh. My. God. Talk about heart wrenching. You will not be able to predict the ending so I wouldn’t even try. It takes a lot for me to actually cry when reading a book, but this one made me cry. And mind you, I was in public when reading this. I had to try and cover it up while cursing to Armentrout for not having a disclaimer on this book. She’s almost as bad as Colleen Hoover is with her books. So to all of you reading this, heed my warning, you will cry when reading this book.

There is a spin off series for this series called the Titan series that is going to follow Seth in the events that happened at the end of the book.

Be prepared for an epic finale that is reminiscent of the final Harry Potter book. There are going to be deaths (that’s unavoidable with wars) but the story was done so that you can accept the ending whether or not if you liked it.

Seth is ready for the next step in “The Power” by Jennifer Armentrout cover release

Power Amazon

The time has come to get ready for the second book in The Titan series, the spin-off series from The Covenant series. Of course, Seth graces the cover of the second book, The Power, and is looking like the hot bad-ass that he is.

Blurb

The Fates are cackling their bony asses off…

It’s been a year since Seth made the deal with the gods that pledged his life to them. And so far, the jobs they’ve given him have been violent and bloody–which is kind of all right with him. But now Apollo has something else in mind for Seth. He’s got to play protector while keeping his hands and fingers off, and for someone who really has a problem with restraint, this new assignment might be the most challenging yet.

Josie has no idea what this crazy hot guy’s deal might be, but it’s a good bet that his arrival means the new life she started after leaving home is about to be thrown into an Olympian-sized blender turned up to puree. Either Josie is going insane or a nightmare straight out of ancient myth is gunning for her.

But it might be the unlikely attraction simmering between her and the golden-eyed, secret-keeping Seth that may prove to be the most dangerous thing of all.

Because history has once again been flipped to repeat.
