Review – ‘Untamed’ by SC Stephens – Griffin takes center stage of this book

Format: e-book, paperback

Format read: e-book

Series: book 4 of Thoughtless series

Rating: 18+ sexual content, language

Genre: New Adult/ Romance

Goodreads page:

We get a new book by NY Times best-selling author, SC Stephens as she brings us a book that dives into the world of Griffin Hancock. We had met him in the Thoughtless series as he is the bassist in the band with Kellan Kyle. Tired of living in his shadow and being held back, he makes a rash decision and quickly sees that he had the world in the palm of his hand. He desperately tries to get it all back, but did he burn a bridge that can’t get rebuilt?

Griffin was like his normal ole self that we came to know in the Thoughtless series but it’s taken up to another notch as we only get his point of view. There are times when he is as frustrating as he was in the first book, but there are moments that we see the layers of Griffin. That he is more than just sex and rock and roll. It’s those moments that I like him the best.

I did find that I liked Anna’s character more in this book. In the Thoughtless series, it felt like she was just a female version of Griffin and I couldn’t see any comparisons to Keira. I understand that they are two different people, but siblings are similar at times, but Anna and Keira were basically opposites. I like that in this book, we got to see that while she is definitely a lot more confident than Keira was, she still had insecurities too. I liked see that other side of her and above all I liked how she stood her ground with Griffin. That is what he needs. A woman with a strong back bone to keep him in line.

The book is definitely a lot more of the ‘romance’ part then the other three books. There were only touches of them in the series, but this one is filled with it, which should not be surprising considering its Griffin and Anna. If you blush easily at some romantic scenes, you may want to make sure that you are reading this in the privacy of your home because there are going to be some scenes that will have you blushing.

***At this point, there will be spoilers ahead, so you have been warned.***

I didn’t really care about how the book ended. It’s not that I don’t like that he got reconnected with the rest of the band, I just don’t like how it was done. A reality show where they pick the bassist? I just feel that may have been a bit farfetched, even for a book. I liked it better when they just had auditions and I had expected that would be where Griffin would reunite with the band. I get what she was trying to do with this, she wanted the rest of the band to see that Griffin is going to work hard and that he’s going to contribute, I just couldn’t get on board with the whole reality show thing.

Overall, it was a great addition to the series. We get to see Griffin break through his Peter Pan-syndrome and grow up to be the person that Anna and the D-bags needs. He learns that he needs to appreciate what he has because nothing in this world is guaranteed and we get to join in with him as he changes.

Book of the Week – ‘Untamed’ by SC Stephens

In a surprise move, the author of the NY Times best-selling Thoughtless series announced that she was going to be a doing a novel for the fan favorite Griffin but as a sequel to the series. Some may be a little wary because Griffin is the stereotypical bad-boy rocker but if you’ve read any of the teasers that Stephens has released, you know that it’s going to be so much more. Griffin may have that rough exterior, but he has a soft spot for his girls and his band. You start to feel bad for him and wonder if maybe he gets a bad rap because of his personality. Hopefully we can see him get his moment in the sun.

Be ready to have your world rocked because Griffin is not going to stop until he gets his spot in the light.

You can buy Untamed on Amazon , Barnes and Noble, Kobo, iTunes.

Top 5 books coming out in November

#5 – Unforgiven by Lauren Kate

In another surprise book by an author, we return back to the Fallen series as we get to see Cam’s point of view as he tries to win back the affections to the only girl he’s ever love, but if he loses he will spend rest of eternity at a special spot in Hell with Lucifer. The whole race against time to make someone fall in love again is a very endearing and interesting topic. We know that Cam is not one to be all about the chocolates and roses so it’s going to be amazing to see a softer side of him.

angels twice descending

#4 – Angels Twice Descending by Cassandra Clare and Robin Wasserman

Out: 11/17

This is the final book of the series and we are going to see what happens to Simon as his training comes to a close. He has been through so much during his training and has learned a lot about the life that was taken from him. Now, he will face a whole mess of new problems and he will once and for all see if he has what it takes to be a Shadowhunter.

dangerous lies

#3- Dangerous Lies by Becca Fitzpatrick

Out: 11/3

In the last book by Fitzpatrick, she stepped up to the plate and knocked a home run in the thriller department. She was able to grab a hold of you right from the beginning and not let you go until you get to the very end. It’s the best kind of page turner because you don’t know which way it’s going to go and this book is certainly going to be no different. We know right off that bat that there is a dark undertone as murder is going to be involved. Be prepared for a long night when this book comes out.

november 9

#2- November 9 by Colleen Hoover

Out: 11/10

If you are a fan of Colleen Hoover then you know that this one is going to be a tear-jerker. She has a way of creating stories that just grab your heart, rip it out of your chest, play volleyball with it, before spiking it to the ground. And the best part is, you keep coming back for more. It’s the best kind of torture and I for one can’t wait to see the creative way she’s breaks us this time.

New ‘Untamed’ teaser has Griffin and Anna fighting over whose team they are on

The time is almost here for those who are fans of the Thoughtless series by SC Stephens. Her new book in the series, Untamed, is set to come out next month, but we get another teaser to help hold us over (or make us more excited to read it). You can read it below thanks to Forever Romance.

In the excerpt, Anna and Griffin are arguing about a decision he made about the D-Bags and she begins to wonder if they are on the same team. We get a not so subtle news (if you didn’t get the first chapter for pre-ordering or read the last excerpt). It’s nice to see the inner workings to their relationship and a softer side to Griffin.

Here is the excerpt:

Anna seemed to instinctually know I wasn’t telling her everything. Eyes wide with panic, she opened her purse and pulled out her cell phone. “Call the band and apologize,” she said, holding the phone out to me. “It’s time to end this. Think of our future, Griffin. Think of the girls’ future.”

Dread seeped into me at seeing her support starting to slip away. I wanted her behind my decision, no matter that it was; I didn’t want to go back to being the only one stoked about this. For a split second, I almost reached for the phone, but then Matt’s words tore through my brain. We’re no longer family. No. I’d rather be the only one excited about this job, then grovel at Matt’s feet.

My mind set, I crossed my arms over my chest. “No, I’m following through with this, Anna, and it’s gonna be amazing. I’m going to be a star, and Matt is going to choke on his words.” She looked confused by that last part, but I didn’t bother explaining. Leaning into her, I hissed, “I’d rather lose everything than go crawling back to that asshole.”

Her mouth dropped open. “Griffin…”

Shaking my head, I repeated, “No, I’m doing this, and you need to back me up. We’re a team, remember?” I knew I was being bossy, but this was important to me. I needed her on my side.

Her fingers curled around her phone. “I do remember…but do you?” She indicated the ostentatious house around her. “This wasn’t a team decision, none of this was. You decided all of this for us without even talking to me about it. I only came with you because we’re a team…but it’s pretty clear to me that if we really are a team, then you’re the captain, and the girls and I are just your…cheerleaders.” Her tone was icy and bitter. Jade fire was flaring from her eyes, and a red flush stained her cheeks.

I knew I was walking on thin ice, and I knew she had a valid point, but I had one too. This was my career, my money, so ultimately, what I did with it was my choice. “When it comes to my job, then…yeah, I guess I am the captain. But I’m the one providing for you and the girls, so I think that gives me the right to the promotion. When it comes to the parenting-type stuff, you can be the captain, okay? But it doesn’t matter, because we’re all still on the same team. And Team Hancock doesn’t need the D-Bags. We don’t need anyone. We’ll survive on our own. Trust me, Anna…please?” My voice came out strained, pleading. It was weird for me to hear it that way. Outside of sexual favors, I wasn’t one to beg.

“I do, Griffin, but…” Stopping herself, she stared into my eyes for several silent seconds. I held her gaze, unwavering. Confident. I wasn’t scared about this future, she shouldn’t be either.

Untamed is set to come out November 3rd and you can preorder the book now.

New teaser from ‘Thoughtless’ by SC Stephens has Griffin thinking of new tattoo ideas

The time for the sequel to the Thoughtless series by SC Stephens, Untamed, was released today by Forever Romance blog on Facebook. In the except, Griffin and Anna are talking with Gibson about new tattoo ideas for Griffin.

You can read it below.

“Daddy!” Gibson tossed her hands my way and leaned so hard in my direction that Anna had to struggle to hold on to her. Gibson’s little face scrunched with annoyed concentration while she fought against her mom. Then, with a pout that only a little kid could make adorable, she turned and scowled at Anna. “Want Daddy.” She said it as a command, not a request. Gibson was only around a year and a half, but she already knew what she wanted, and she fully expected to get her way. She was so much like me, it was scary.

Anna rolled her eyes but stepped closer so Gibson could reach me. When her little hands touched my skin, they suddenly became razor‐like talons. Like an eagle securing a fish from the sea, Gibson clamped onto my forearm with a surprising amount of freakish strength. “Ow, shit! Relax, Gibs. I’m right here.”

Grunting, I pulled her into my side and examined what was left of my arm. I half expected to see a mutilated flap of skin hanging off the bone. Instead, all I saw were bright red streaks where she’d raked me. Anna winced. “Guess I need to cut her nails. Sorry.”

I shrugged. “The day isn’t truly awesome until a gorgeous girl has scratched me up. I wear my war wounds with pride.” Looking at the design she’d left behind, I added, “I might actually get this one tattooed on me. How cool would permanent shred marks be?”

Anna smiled, then shook her head. “No, if you want claw marks to tattoo, I’ll give you some good ones. Then every time you look at them, you can remember how you got them.”

“Damn…yeah, that’s a much better plan. Fuck, you have the best ideas.”

Gibson grabbed my nose and pulled my attention her way, where she liked it. Girl had a jealous streak a mile wide. Looking at her was like looking at a miniature version of me, if I were a girl. She had the same light blue eyes, same blond hair, although hers was a pristine platinum color while mine was a little dirtier. As it should be. She gave me a smile full of shiny white teeth, then spouted, “Fuck.”

Anna crossed her arms over her chest, but her expression was more amused than annoyed. “I think we’re at the point where we need to start watching our language.”

I looked past Gibson to Anna. “Watch my language? You might as well ask me to hop on one foot while reciting the alphabet backwards. I can’t police myself like that twenty-four/seven. I’m exhausted just thinking about it.”

Anna swished her hands at Gibson. “Well, she’s starting to copy you, and if we don’t put a stop to it now, she’s going to start calling people cocksuckers soon.”

I started laughing. “That…would be so awesome.”

Anna put her hands on her hips; true irritation was starting to edge out her amusement now. “No, it wouldn’t be.” She smiled. “Well, yeah, it kind of would be, but as parents, we have to put a stop to that kind of stuff.” She sighed.

“Well, we should try anyway.”

Looking back at Gibson, I frowned.

“I suppose I could try.” Even though I was sure she didn’t have a clue what we were talking about, Gibson laid her head on my shoulder, wrapped her arms around my neck, and patted my back like she was encouraging me. Yeah, if it would help Gibson, I would try to control my mouth. There wasn’t much I wouldn’t do for that little girl.

“Untamed” by Jessica Sorensen release day blitz

No matter how hard I try, I never seem to be able to escape my family’s world. Their madness controls

my life, just like insanity consumes my mind.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell what’s real.

Sometimes it’s hard to tell who I really am. The person everyone sees? Or the one I keep trapped inside?

I wonder which person Ryler sees. Just like I wonder who I can trust.

Wonder. Wonder. Wonder.

I wonder too much.

I wish I could just find a way to escape it all and finally be free.

I live a double life and sometimes I hate myself for it. Watching Emery fall apart—pretending I don’t

care—is killing me inside.

I want to tell her the truth, but I also want a new life.

Want. Want. Want.

I want too much. Sometimes it’s hard to tell what I really desire.

I wish I could be free from the confusion, free from this life.

In the 2nd book of the series, it picks up right where the first one leaves off. Ryler is with Emery protecting her (because of her father’s orders) but things quickly get out of hand as Ryler and Emery give into their feelings for one another and learn that this is bigger than anything else, even if it puts their lives at risk.

Ryler struggles throughout the whole book. With everything. His morals. His feelings. What he wants. He knows that he wants Emery, perhaps even loves her, but he knows that by pursuing her and her father finding out, it could mean the death to both of them but he can’t seem to stay away from her? And it’s because of the ghosts from his past that keeps him wanting to protect Emery.

Emery struggles but more about her mind than anything else. She knows that there is something that her parents are keeping from her but can’t figure out what it is. At least at first. When she does, oh Holy Jesus does things go south real quick. She gets the attitude of ‘I don’t care anymore’ and throws caution to the wind as she embraces her love for Ryler not knowing the consequences of the actions.

Once again Sorensen is able to create complex characters with complex backgrounds that seem to find comfort in one another. While this kind of story of ‘two broken souls complete each other’ has been done by her before, she is still able to draw you in with her beautiful form of writing and realistic way of showing the ugly that really does exist in the world.

It’s a quick 2-book series (at least for now) and its one that you could probably read on a rainy or snowy day but I wouldn’t go so far to say it’s the best that she’s written. That definitely belongs to the Ella/Micha or the Kayden/Callie series

Rating: C+

“If you want to dance, dance. There’s no judgment at these things, which makes them pretty awesome.”

She smiles, and then threads her fingers through mine. “Okay, let’s dance, then.”

I don’t bother mentioning that dancing can be extremely sexy when done under the right circumstances—circumstances that usually include alcohol and sexual tension.

At first, Emery is cautious, keeping her distance from me as she rocks her hips to the music. I move with her. I’ve never really been into dancing, but I can rock out to a little garage rock any day. The longer the song goes on, the more into it she gets, until she finally spins around and presses her back against my chest. That’s when the two of us decide to start playing a dangerous game of Want But Can’t Have. A very, very dangerous game that is really fucking tortuous to play yet impossible to give up.

Emery starts grinding her hips to the sultry beat of the song. With each movement, her ass brushes against my cock, making me go rock hard. I grip the curves of her hips and my hands unnecessarily slip underneath the bottom of her shirt. My fingers delve into her soft flesh, and I bite back a moan. Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve forgotten just how soft her skin is, how amazing she smells, how incredible she feels against me.

She shivers from my touch and presses closer, rolling her hips and driving my body absolutely mad. She repeats the movement over and over again, until finally, I damn near lose my mind.

Gripping her waist, I spin her around to face me. “I thought you didn’t know how to dance?”
