Then there’s Ren Owens, the sexy, tattooed Elite member of the Order who has been sharing Ivy’s bed and claiming her heart. Their chemistry is smoking hot, but Ivy knows that Ren has always valued his duty to the Order above all else—he could never touch her if he knew the truth. That is, if he let her live at all. Yet how can she live with herself if she lies to him?

But as the Fae Prince begins to close in on Ivy, intent on permanently opening the gates to the Otherworld, Ivy is running out of options. If she doesn’t figure out who she can trust—and fast—it’s not only her heart that will be torn apart, but civilization itself.

REVIEW

The plot of this story is what I like to call a pretzel plot. It has so many twists and turns that you don’t where it ends and where it ends. The story picks up right where the first one left off and it doesn’t let you go until the end.

The book dives a little bit into the darker realm as Ivy has to decide on what she is going to do with the fact that she is the one that everyone is looking for. It is her duty to make sure that the Prince doesn’t get what he wants, but doing the right thing is not the easiest thing to do. Ivy is a world of turmoil as she tries to figure out what she can do in this book. The stress gets to her almost immediately as she makes some crazy decisions in order to protect the people that she loves.

Tink is that best friend that we all want to have. He doesn’t sugar coat anything and he tells it as it is. He becomes more involved now that Ivy finds herself in trouble. He has a few secrets of his own that he’s been keeping secret and it only complicated Ivy’s life. If you don’t like this character, then there is something really wrong with you. I love everything about Tink that I wish he was real so that I could get a little Brownie for myself.

Ren and Ivy’s relationship is probably the most romantic kind of romance since Seth and Josie from Armentrout’s Titan series (third book coming out soon). They are kick butt when they need to but they always put each other first. Ren is all romantic and swoon-worthy that a part of you wants to not like Ivy for the fact that she gets to have him. Whenever Armentrout love stories, she writes them with so much detail and carefree. You can tell that it’s effortless that these characters love each other because that’s what true love should be. Effortless.

The story is heating up and it’s going to be a doozy of a final book. The war that is going to happen is going to be tough to read because you know that there are going to be casualties. It’s inevitable. But I hope that we don’t lose someone that we love because if we do, it’s going to be a hard and rough final for me to swallow.

EXCERPT:

I lifted my right hand, reaching for my iron stake out of instinct, even though I knew it would do no good against the prince.

“You shouldn’t do that.” His voice was deep with what reminded me of an English accent. “I know you want to, but it would be very, very unwise of you, Ivy.”

My hand twitched.

Creepy Prince smiled slightly. “Your friend has been very helpful.”

That got my hackles up. I slid my sunglasses onto my forehead and forced my tone to stay calm and level. “I’m sure she has. Speaking of Val, happen to know where I can find her?”

His lips curled in a semblance of a smile as he stepped closer. The prince was tall, taller than Ren, who was pushing six foot two. My entire back stiffened as I forced myself to hold my ground, even though every instinct demanded that I run and run super fast, because he had almost killed me once before. Correction. He would have definitely killed me if he hadn’t realized what I was and had, I guessed, healed me.

“I’ve been waiting for you,” he said, instead of answering my question, his pale blue eyes fixed on mine.

My hand curled into a useless fist. “That is extremely creepy to hear.”

That cold smile returned. “Why don’t we talk? There are seats across the way.”

“Yeah, that’s not going to happen.”

The slow smile increased but never reached his eyes. “Oh, I know it is.”

Fine hairs rose on my arms.

“What exactly can you do right now?” he said in the same coldly polite voice. “Refuse me?” Creepy Prince laughed, and it wasn’t a bad sound. Again, it was something that was just cold, as if he were mimicking what a human would do. “You can’t.”

“I can.” My palm itched to grab the thorn stake secured under my pant leg, but I held still. I might be reckless, but I wasn’t stupid.

“Really? I will have to beg to differ on that. You see, humans surround us. So many of them, and I have an extraordinary appetite.” His eyes appeared to glimmer as his gaze slithered from the top of my curly head down to my toes. “A rather impressive appetite for many, many things.”

“Okay. First off, ew.” My lip curled. “Secondly, I don’t want to hear about any of your appetites.”

One dark eyebrow rose. “Oh, but you should know that I could kill twenty of these humans in less than five seconds and feed on the rest, leaving them to believe that it was this little red-headed girl who murdered these innocent people.” His voice dropped even lower as he leaned in and icy air brushed my cheek. “You deny me this, those lives will be on your hands, little bird.”

Anger flushed hotly as my eyes met his. There wasn’t a single part of me that doubted anything he said. He had me. God, I hated to admit it, but he had me.

My fingers tightened around the slender remote. “I was thinking that if the prince can sense me, why hasn’t he showed up here?”

“I don’t know.” Tink came down to the coffee table and started marching across it. I’m not the prince, but if I was the prince, I’d be buying time.”

“Buying time?” I scooted to the edge of the couch.

“Yeah, because he’s got to win you over.” Tink swiped up the straw he’d had in his Coke. It was nearly the size of him. “That’s basically what he has to do if he wants to impregnate you.”

I cringed, like a full body cringe. “Please do not use the word impregnate ever again.”

“Why? That’s what he wants to do.” He started dancing with the straw, the kind of dancing you see in the clubs. Hips gyrating all over the place. “He knows coercing or tricking you isn’t going to get the deed done, so he’s probably trying to learn how not to be a sexed up dickhead.”

“Sexed up dickhead?” I repeated.

“Uh-huh.” Tink dipped the straw as one would a dancer. “Remember when I was telling you how I saw the prince getting it on with three females once? He’s totes sexed up. And he’s a dickhead. In other words, he has no empathy or compassion. No humanity.”

“Most fae don’t.”

Tink twirled the straw. “Yeah, but the ancients are worse. They’re as far away from human as you can get. He’s going to have to work on wooing you.”

I slowly shook my head. “That’s…” There were no words.

“That’s what I’d do.” Tink dropped the straw and whipped around toward me. “Or he’s plotting something major and any moment he’s going to knock down the front door and storm the place.”

“Wow.” A fine shiver curled down my spine. “That’s really a relaxing thought.”

He zipped over to the couch and sat on the arm. He tipped his head back and stared up at me. “Don’t worry. I’m here to protect you.”

I just looked at him, because other than ordering shit off of Amazon, the only strength he had was the unique ability to annoy the crap out of me while somehow still managing to be endearing.

Tink grinned. “Trust me, Ivy. The Prince is not going to want to mess with me.”

Review – “Wicked” by Jennifer Armentrout – Fun start to another hit series

Wicked AmazonGRSW

Format: ebook, paperback
Series: book 1 of The Wicked saga
Rating: 18+ for language, sensual content, dark themes, sexual content
Genre: New Adult
Goodreads page: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/22895264-wicked

The title for this book is perfect in more ways then one. Yes it has to do with the demons and evil fae that are threatening to take over the world, but it has a deeper meaning. We have seen the way she writes Young Adult novels and while she doesn’t shy away from topics she doesn’t use dive into details. There is no hesitation in this story. We see the full way that Ivy and Ren fall in love and fall with them.

Perhaps the only downside/downfall of the book is that it is awful reminiscent of her Obsidian series. Ivy and Ren go back and forth like Daemon and Katy did and at the beginning you would think you were reading the same story but with different names. But if you read on you start to see the differences but it takes a little while on to see it.

There is of course a few twists in the story which is to be expected in this story. They are fairly surprising but there is a strong chance you will figure them out. Some might find this a downfall for the story, but I find it a positive. I love when I figure out the twist of the story and when I’m right by the end of the story. What makes this work is that Armentrout tries to keep you on your toes by switching gears with the story and having your attention on something more pressing.

Fans of her past work will see similarities but it’s not so bad that you won’t want to finish the book or the series. Ren is a feisty heroine who doesn’t back down and Ren is a swoon worthy hero who compliments Ren in more ways then one.

Torn (Summer 2015)

Book 3 (2015)

Top 5 books to read this month

becoming us

#5 – Becoming Us by Allie Everhart
Out: 12/12

In the final book in the Jade series, Garrett is going to be searching for Jade (who got kidnapped at the end of the last book) while trying to figure out what the organization wants from him. This is going to have a lot of drama and a bit of a thrilling mix as Garrett will stop at nothing to get Jade back. Should be interesting to see how things unfold in this final book and see if Garrett and Jade can get their happy ever after.

fractured

#4 –  Fractured by Sydney Landon
Out: 12/20

The first book left fans wanting more and that’s the way to kick off a new series. Lia and Lucian will have to try and move on from what happened in the first book. Lucian fell in love despite trying everything in his power to not do that but it might be to much for Lia. It should be another roller coaster ride as the first one was and another one that you can’t put down.

forever with me

#3 – Forever with Me by Kristen Proby
Out: 12/2
In this book, we follow Domenic the love child of the patriarch of the family as he embarks on his love affair. He was introduced about half way through the series and quickly became a fan favorite as he had all that romantic qualities that we love to read in a leading male.

Wicked AmazonGRSW

#2- Wicked by Jennifer Armentrout
Out: 12/9
In the first book in this new series by Armentrout, we get a mix of thrilling, romance, and supernatural as the lead characters try and understand the magic of New Orleans. Ivy and Ren are going to be our two leads in this story as they try and figure out the murders that is going on in the city. No doubt that that characters are going to be fun to watch as Armentrout is amazing at creating dynamic and fun characters and make a story that readers just can’t put down.

breaking the rules

#1- Breaking the Rules by Katie McGarry
Out: 12/9
This book is falling between the first and second book. We get to see that road trip that Noah and Echo talked about in the second book. This is going to be a great addition to the series as we finally see the part of their relationship that puts the nail in solidifying their relationship. Expect a lot of antics and fun times for these two and the moment that will make you fall more in love with them.

Something “Wicked” this way comes

Wicked AmazonGRSW

Yes, it is true. Something Wicked is coming from NY Times Best-Selling author, Jennifer Armentrout, as she starts a new book series. Armentrout started talking about this book while she was promoting the final book in her Lux series (Opposition) as she got her fans excited for the next big series coming from her.

The story is to take place in New Orleans and is going to be circling the supernatural world once again.

In Wicked, twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

This book, like every other series she has written, sounds very interesting and complex. Armentrout is dabbling some more in the paranormal and with magic. Of course there is going to be a love story between Ivy and Ren because what kind of epic adventure would it be without a little bit of romance. It gives the fans something to hope for (young love).

The blog, Inkslinger PR, has all the details and updates for this story (which is set to come out December 8th) and you can sign up on the blog to receive alerts when it gets released.

What do you think of the cover for Jennifer Armentrout’s new series?

Jennifer Armentrout announces new book series

jlynn

In the wake of the final book coming out for her Lux series, Jennifer Armentrout announces a new book series that she is working on.

The series is going to be called Wicked and it’s going to be a series, but she didn’t say how many books would be in the series. All that she wrote is that it’s going to be a ‘saga’. This series is going to be a New Adult paranormal that is going to be about the fae.

Below is a short summary of what we can expect for the story.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student.

But that’s not all, Armentrout has also given us a small excerpt from the story, which can be read below.

Clasping my cheeks with his large, calloused hand, he swooped in and tilted his head. He kissed me, right there on the side of the street, in front of Brighton and Merle’s house. And it was no chaste or quick kiss. I didn’t even think Ren knew how to do chaste kisses.

His warm mouth moved over mine, insistent and seductive. With my hands clutching the helmet between us, all I could do was let myself be swept away by the feel of his mouth on mine.

And it did feel damn good.

The bike still hummed under us, and as his tongue glided over mine, I gasped into his mouth. I felt his lips curve into a smile against mine, and I wanted to pitch the helmet into the street and climb all over him.

Ren’s mouth brushed mine as he murmured, “Mmm.”

“What… what was that for?” I asked, blinking.

He laughed as he turned, turning the engine off. “It was a ‘just because kiss.’ Get used to it. You’re going to get a lot of them.”

I stared at his back. “What if I don’t want them?”

He looked over his shoulder, arching a brow. “You want them.”

I sighed. I did want them.

Wicked is going ot be self-published on December 8th for e-books. You can add the book to your Goodreads shelf by going here.
