I am going to admit that I was a little skeptical of this story because of the way that Sarah was portrayed in the previous books. With that said, I am glad that we did get a book for Sarah because now I get her side of the story. Yes there are things that make her a little cuckoo but knowing where she is coming from and seeing that she too can get past what happened and find love is a full circle ending for me.

Leo’s problems go deeper then the ocean. We touched upon them slightly with Slate’s book and his relationship with Erica. He seems to be the exact person that Sarah needs to get over the problems that she’s had, but the question remains to be seen if his problems will be too much for her.

While I am glad that we got to dive in to Sarah’s past, there were times that I got a little lost in the world. I was expecting more explanation to why she did the things that she did, but we didn’t really see too much of that. Also, there were times when Leo spoke Spanish that it wasn’t translated and while it’s not a big deterrent for some people, it slowed me down when I would have to go to Google translator to translate what he was saying.

For the romance part, it is definitely full of passion and lust. They are truly a ying to the other one’s yang. What they both need from the other they are able to find and we get to reap the lovely benefits of those lust filled moments.

Overall, I liked how the story came full circle for the people involved with the characters, though I would love to see what happens with Eli and Casey. Especially after some of the things were talked about in this story.

Book review: ‘Stolen Course’ by Aly Martinez – Can Caleb finally move on from Manda?

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book on Kindle Unlimted
Series: book 2 of Wrecked and Ruined series
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance

I’ve had time to digest this book and I’m still not a 100% sure that I like Caleb. There are times, many in fact, where I want to give up on him completely. He is a complete jerk to Emma for things that are outside of her control and it got to the point where I started getting annoyed with her because she just kept taking him back. Thankfully after that one big fight she didn’t and it made me like her a whole lot more.

Caleb’s biggest problems is that he is stuck in the past and can’t let go of Manda. He holds on to so much hate for Sarah that it carries over in his relationship with Emma. But thankfully, she makes him feel things that he hasn’t felt in 5 years so we get to a glimpse of the man that he was before he was forever changed with Manda died.

Emma holds her own against Caleb and I love that she does. He needed someone to light a fire under him to pull him out of his grief. Them together is explosive, that it kind of reminded me of the reference that Eminem made with volcano and tornado coming together. It was a whirlwind for both of them and definitely changed both of their lives.

Once again Martinez is able to create characters that have such diverse emotions. Unlike many of the male leads in other romantic books, he is not someone that you love 100%. He has got his issues that run deeper than the ocean and it makes you not like him at points of the story, such much that you actually wish the couple doesn’t end up together. But of course, that can’t happen because where would the fun in that be.

Book review: Brett tries to move on from tragedy in ‘Changing Course’ by Aly Martinez

Format: e-book, paperback
Format read: e-book arc
Series: book 1 of Wrecked and Ruined series
Rating: 18+ sexual content, language
Genre: Contempory Romance

Everyone thinks that when you find the love of your life, then everything is going to be gravy from then on out. But what happens when life throws you a curveball that challenges everything that you have been building?

That is this book. Brett goes through something that not only changes his life with his wife but changes the life of those around him. We see the struggle of a man who is trying to move on from his past while moving on with Jesse and their future together.

I don’t know how she does it, but Jesse has the patience of a saint. She is able to be patient with Brett as he struggles with letting go of Sarah and not letting it effect his relationship with Jesse. In a lot of ways I can relate to Jesse (which is a big reason why I like her so much) because she is sarcastic and funny, and sweet. The exact person that Brett needs.

Brett is annoying at times. While I may understand and appreciate why he makes certain choices, it still doesn’t help that I am annoyed with him. He is an alpha male who protects and loves Jesse like she deserves but there are times when he goes back to his past and I’m just like ‘oh my God if you break her heart’.

What I love most about Aly Martinez’s writing is that she can create these troubled and complex characters and how she uses powerful emotions to overcome the demons of life. Love, happiness, and hope. Those are the things in life worth fighting for and in her books she shows why they should never be given up on.

There book has a HEA with no cliffhanger. It’s a series but each book could be read as a stand-alone but it’s recommended to read them in order.
